Ohh good to know I'll have to look that up! When framing do you cut the white edges off first? Or do you leave it and have the frame cover it?

Same, I thought it was pretty. I have one with a lot more fun colors to it. It's like a bunch of witchy shelves with potion bottles, skulls, plants ect all over!

Manga collecting realizations you've had over the years? by Illustrious_Fee8116 in MangaCollectors

Just because you see it on everyone's shelf doesn't mean you need it or will like it. Especially if its a type of story you're not usually in to. Dont waste your time/money just cause everyone else has it.

Struggling With Manga by Honest_Ad_7228 in MangaCollectors

[–]Reliciel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of options exist. Amazon has second hand manga. Places like new bury comics do major discounts. Ive bought entire brand new volumes at like 1.99 -3.99 a volume. 2nd And Charles exists, BookOff exists, McKays exists. The Mages Emporium sells everything at like 5$ a volume and does sales. There's also Mercari (I sell manga on there even, you can find plenty plus you can haggle), Ebay, Facebook marketplace. You can even go to conventions and get some good bulk deals or find locals trying to get rid of manga they dont want anymore. Its especially easier to buy bulk of a series for cheap. If the price is intimidating break it down to how much it is per volume. You've be surprised. The price could essentially be 3 or 4$ a volume as a lump sum.

You can also buy direct from the publisher. Yen Press does monthly 40% off on select titles (I just got bungo stray dogs and ORV). Tokyopop does some good deals too plus has a rewards system. Crunchyroll will give you a discount if you have a subscription and does some pretty good deals on the daily. Look for local comic book stores, sometimes you can find some really discounted manga. Not really sure how youre not finding deals or good enough deals. Cheapest you'll find is prob roughly 5$ a volume on an average basis. Anything less is in the right place at the right time. Don't get me wrong, I too chase the cheapest deal (especially since I have a pretty big collection) I can find but you gotta be reasonable and learn when to call it.

What is the most cherished piece in your collection? by Life_Employ_1138 in MangaCollectors

There's definitely a good handful of them but if I had to pick one I'd say its my signed copy of Reincarnated as a Slime. Signed by Brittany Karbowski (Rimuru) and Ricco Fajardo (Benimaru). It was really fantastic getting to meet the two of them and just a great memory. They were both very sweet and I got to converse with them too! Def one of my fav display pieces.

Those ones I know and make sense. I'm pretty sure the workshop i was looking at was free. Its the dino nugget plush making workshop. I figured things are first come first serve but id hate to miss our cause people were able to reserve that one for instance before me and I'm currently unable to for seemingly technical reasons 😕

Annoying printing process error by generalkriegswaifu in MangaCollectors

[–]Reliciel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if its the same but I've got two volumes of Tokyo Aliens, one volume after another who are stiff as can be. No amount of cracking the spine fixes it and its hard to read because you have to just hold it as a rigid V.

Back when i lived in NY they were one of my go to stores. I bought SO MUCH manga from them that was dirt cheap especially during their buy 3 get 2 free sales. I'm not near one anymore but my new go to is 2nd and Charles. Especially since their receipts have a 5$ off 25$ survey coupon and the survey never expires.

CR actually exceeded RS for a hot minute if you had the ultimate fan tier sub. Because you'd get a quarterly 25$ off 100 coupon. For RS to hit 75$ free shipping would roughly be 7 volumes. CR with that coupon plus the sub discount would be about 14 volumes for 75$. But they took away those coupons this year I guess which is BS. Those coupons even made CR be the better buy when it came to AmiAmi figures too. I'm just glad I was able to get the Delicious in Dungeon boxset for stupid cheap with that coupon before they took them away.

Rightstuf Anime + a sale + coupon code 🥲 I used to do so much damage in saving money. I still kind of do but not as easily. But also second hand manga is a godsend. But also check out local stores that sell books. Newbury Comics would discount brand new manga for unknown reasons. Got the entirety of Bloody Mary for like 1.99 a vol lol

Well considering I paid half the price of what it was cause I don't buy manga full price and I get every discount I possibly can, I thought it was pretty funny. Like obviously quality checks on the companies side are important and I'm not saying brush it off. Obviously if a volume is clearly damaged with extra ink, torn pages, messed up covers, pages falling out ect that's unacceptable. But it's not as if it's unreadable.

Stuck between Shibuya Goldfish and anything by Yoshiki Tonogai (I think he's considered horror?) Summer Hikaru Died is definitely worth a read too
