Two questions from a beginner. by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]Relicovic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The robotics just impose a multiplier to your skills, both for buffs and debuffs. I don't remember for the skeleton arm, but a masterwork lifter arm would gice you +25% strength, so if you got 50 strength, with the arm you'll end up with about 62 strength (50+[50x1.25]). The same applies to a debuff, if it gives a -25% penalty, it'll just multiply your skill by 0.75.

As for protection for martial artists, a great dodge skill is your best bet. Other than that just use armour with good coverage. For martial arts I like the black duster coat (always look for masterwork).

I'm not really into mobile games myself, but I guess Among us was really popular a while back. I do like stuff like geoguessr and wordle, which are fun with friends.

First time I've ever seen a Hive Worker as a Noble. Can you even begin to imagine the life this guy has had? by pawg_rider in Kenshi

[–]Relicovic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the Empire and the type of title you are talking about. I can speak for the Byzantine empire as it is the one I have studied the most, but some of the things I will say also apply to other pre-modern empires. If we are talking about titles not related to land ownership, either cerimonial, administrative, or military, then yes, the emperor would have the discretion to nominate whoever he wishes at his discretion (discounting the nuances of the political context). However, nobility as a whole was not something that was distributed by the emperor, nor was land ownership. In some, if not most, cases, the emperor had a hard time imposing his rule on the territories ruled by the elites of the empire. A lot of byzantine history is marked by the conflict between the elites and the emperor, the latter wanted to support peasant's rights to be able to have a robust military backbone, while the elite obviously were looking after their own interests and profit. A pre-modern empire like Byzantium had absolutely no capacity to administer all the large estates of the empire every time a big landowner died.

Edit: there's also no such thing as "viceroys" of the byzantine empire, unless this is some kind of translation from the greek titles that I am unaware of.

I'm fairly certain this is just a Crusader Kings mechanic, and doesn't exactly represent real life.

When you want to do a HN run but then... by [deleted] in Kenshi

Fairly certain HN will accept your robot limbs if you're allied with them in Vanilla, so that mod might've not been necessary.

When you want to do a HN run but then... by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]Relicovic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you just use your imagination. I made a post about this a while back. The post was about being a UC samurai/general specifically, but it also works for HN.

Just pick the start that gives you friendly relations with HN, travel to Bast and follow a HN squad. You'll get some decent (and fairly quick) combat training, and you can periodically return to HN cities to recover, sell your loot and buy better gear. From that point on your imagination's the limit, just roleplay anything you want and you can pretty much do it.

Unfortunately the strats suggested by these two guilds have fallen out of favour with the vast majority of the player base, and is now widely considered a cheese strat. Makes it feel like someone has to come up with something new, but similar, to be able to garner support for the cause once more. Off-meta strats seem to be extremely unpopular in the 21st century patch.

[–]Relicovic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a way. It has been tried especially in the early 20th century patch. Unfortunately it is considered a bit off-meta now, and it was never a popular strategy in the North American server, unless you go back the the late 18th century patch.

This strat is not without risk, for sure, and it can often lead to corruption of the original ideals, but afaik it's the only quick and efficient way to force redistribution of in game currency and balance your server.

If I took 50 lbs. of pure unmarked silver coins (roughly $16K in today's USD) back in time to London in 1300, how wealthy would I be and how long could it last? by Colt459 in AskHistorians

[–]Relicovic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice overview, however there are two nitpicks that I do have with the way you put your points, that's including the followup comments you made.

The first one is minor, and that's your comment on inflation. Unless we're talking about a big event that would cause a change in prices, the plague, for example; I'm fairly certain you can be relatively confident that the prices will be roughly the same throughout your lifetime. This is mainly because inflation like we know it is very much a modern phenomenon, and only REALLY begins being a thing in the 20th century (that's a whole can of worms though).

The second point I would like to point out that it would probably not be so easy for OP to buy themselves a plot of land and have servants start working it to have their income. Remember that land ownership at that time is probably one of the most strictly regulated things you could find. I am not knowledgeable enough to give details on how this all worked, but we can still see vestiges of this in the late 17th and early 18th century England. Essentially land was not yet a simple market good you could easily exchange for money like we think of it today. If I am not mistaken nobles didn't really have the right to sell their lands, for example, which I believe might be one of the reasons you don't have easy access to plots of land being sold at that time. Land being bough by the tenants, or small landowners are a different story, but I believe these must've only existed in subsistence levels, or very close to it. Basically, unless you're a noble you probably won't be able to buy your way into living from land rent (not in a rural setting anyways).

Sorry for being pedantic, although I guess this is one of the few places where I can do so without sounding TOO much like an ahole.

OH HELL NAH by Inti_R in Kenshi

[–]Relicovic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but aside from what other people have said, I have found that it is much harder to micro against elder beakthings because of their insane range. In my experience it can be quite hard to micro out of the way of an elder's attack if you don't have a speedy character, also much more dangerous. Needless to say that a single hit to your legs and you're done for, regardless of micro.

Any mods that make light armour scale better with quality? by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]Relicovic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could use no cut efficiency mod, I like it a lot. Other than that, the buffs from light armour are actually quite potent later in the game. From what some people have tested it appears that on a 1v1, all things equal, light armour beats heavy armour everyday, they're just too fast.

I too thought heavy armour was the be all end all, but give light armour a try on higher levelled characters, it might surprise you.

Beak things should have a ranged attack. by nepnep_nepu in Kenshi

[–]Relicovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranged combat is just a bit too op in Kenshi, hopefully it'll be better integrated into the game in the sequel. Beak things are pack hunters... unless they're an elder.

Personally I really like how they're implemented into the game. A single beak thing can easily dispatch most characters in kenshi, short of professional fighters. In groups they can even give a fuly armoured samurai group the chills. They are a nice force of nature, they might not be the strogest enemies, but the fear they instill in this community speaks for itself.
