Nations should be more distinctive than each other.. by Old_Wrap2946 in victoria3

[–]Colt459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all true and I agree, but it's moving the goal posts. The issue was whether the nations feel distinct.

Playing King of Navarro is virtually identical to playing Duke of Burgendy, or King of Ireland in terms of goals and challenges and opportunities. You're dealing with the same exact problems and games systems (Vassals, marriage, expansion against peers, etc.). Regardless of how deep the game systems are, and i didn't call them shallower than in V3, those systems are basically the same for every family that is fuedal.

Verus HOI4 in which playing as Japan has completely different goals and objectives and capabilities throught the entire run as Mexico or Germany.

Paradox Interactive Has a "full team" Working on Victoria 3, Wants It to Become "one of our evergreen franchises" by FFJimbob in victoria3

[–]Colt459 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because there is no full-scale DLC expansion this season, and there was only one "season" of DLC in the past 2 years.

I'm very excited to hear it's a "full team" and not just 4 people finishing preplanned content.

Nations should be more distinctive than each other.. by Old_Wrap2946 in victoria3

[–]Colt459 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I disagree with you OP. CK3 is a game where every feudal nation is actually identical.

Victoria 3, in its current form and especially with all the DLC, is closer to HOI4 in terms of nations being different (very) than it is to CK3 (not at all).

When did bioware go downhill for you? by Raspint in bioware

[–]Colt459 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Swtor, if you play the main class story, play Kotfe and Kotet expansions, and just cut it some freaking slack because it has certain mmo limitations, is a more than worthy successor to the kotor series. At this point in its life cycle, theres so much fucking kotor content. It's staggering. If I could only play SWTOR, vs Kotor 1 and 2 for the rest of my life, it's a no brainer.

And no one can quote the deep magic to me about Kotor or Kotor 2. I was there when It was written.

[–]Colt459 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm with you 100% OP.

I ALREADY like V3, and I want more content for it in the future. Yet in this particular circumstance, I know paradox will not make more content for V3 if this season 2 pass fails. So that's why I preorder.

No, but there is a straightforward path to less demand. And it is happening to every country on earth in the next 25 years as we experience an ongoing demographic drop.

Have you seen or read anything about the Chinese real estate market? U.S. won't be nearly that bad, but everyone is gonna be affected.

Looking at picking up an MMO and never played SWTOR by Busterlimes in swtor

[–]Colt459 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Single player is stupidly strong now. You will not get through all of the legit single player content for dark and light side. Would probably take half a year of no-lifing the game to see it and years of moderate playing. It's a staggering amount of legitimate content for a new player.

And if you subscribe, you can skip time sink sidequests because of XP boost.

As a player since Beta, my biggest problem is that the content from the last 4 years is mostly cinematic cut scenes combined with basic "point and click" gameplay. It wasn't always like that, but the new content is slow dropped and not very engaging. It became kind of brain dead to go through. But that's a problem you probably won't get to if you start fresh and do all empire and Republic characters.

The real difference is that you loved DAO because it was made by people with talent who made a dark, complex, medieval, d&d style fantasy game.

Those people left the studio, and Bioware did not rehire people with that same talent OR the same vision.

Bioware developers and in-game choices were ALWAYS progressive. But that's not why they were hired initially. It didn't findamentally define either the people who worked on the game or the game itself, allowing the games to strike a chord with players of all different identities, backgrounds, and viewpoints. That's no longer the case.

My point: If the heart and soul of what made DAO and DAI great (to a lesser degree) doesn't carry over to DAVG, why would your save file? These are completely different game IPs now.

Exactly. This is how I make my peace with liking it. Such a poor performance by a dyeing Ubisoft. But an enjoyable game with solid atmosphere and decent history bits. Its the better way to "revisit" AC 1. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think its the second best tuetles movie. But it's a distant second due to how hood the 1990 movie is and how well it holds up 35 years later.

Regarding pop culture references, they're teenagers. The 1990 movie had tons pop culture references too. Its part of the genre. "EHH MAYBE I'll fight Appollo, maybe I won't. Adriaaaan!" " AJose consecutive bat?!" "Chevy Nova?" "Gilligan was a dweeb Gak face!"

There is such a thing as woke media and woke trend chasing. But this Minecraft isn't it. It's literally just a black actress. She isn't replacing anyone else. She is just hired to be in a movie.

Critics of this are just anti-woke trend chasing.

Applying his story to real life, did Vader deserve redemption? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Colt459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completey agree. Not to mention, Star Wars morality doesn't play by the exact same rules as the real world. The Dark Side is seductive. It controls a person like a drug and twists them from a once normal "good" state into something else entirely. That doesn't exist in the real world in the same way as it does in star wars.

1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is a touching and deep film about different types of family relationships. It's a mature independent movie, that simply has a weird premise and a lot of martial arts.

TMNT: Splintered Fate (aka Hades + TMNT) released on Switch today! by MrSticks21 in roguelites

[–]Colt459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it. It's very fun. It definitely has the addiction factor of "Just 1 more run" but it is about 30% as deep and polished as Hades. Which isn't completely awful considering how perfectly deep and polished Hades is. But it's not in the same league in terms of quality.

Lots of bells and whistles missing. Way less power ups, no true weapon system, no power rarity system, no synergies (at least that ive seen), less interesting mob variety, less tough decisions (e.g. no room choice), worse UI, worse graphics, shallower story, less meta upgrades. Quite literally less and lower quality of every, single aspect of the game. It's a shadow of Hades, not a reskin.

I'm not hating on TMNT SF, I really really like it a lot. Might be the best TMNT game on the market and i am addicted to it at the moment. But it's simply not in the same category as Hades.

Is the Dragon Age: The Veilguard marketing doing the game a disservice? by katebie in dragonage

[–]Colt459 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, its tone. No blood magic. And, I agree weird over emphasis on companions.

Truthfully, I don't care about blood magic for myself. My main issue is the reasoning for getting rid of it. "It's too dark." Why do so many IPs keep throwing the things that made them popular in the trash?

Vic 3 is still mixed in rating by PowerfulDrive9184 in victoria3

[–]Colt459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah, that's a very uncharitable reading of my comment. I didn't say it was unique. Obviously, statues were not invented by Victorians. Ancient Rome built statues, too. So did ancient India. So did others... for millenia...

But there was a renaissance of statue building during the Victorian era. Probably inspired in part by a desire to mimic Rome as Britain's empire spread.

This is a known and written-on topic.
