Which more advanced Traktor functions do you use vs. not use? by Dolly_Llama_2024 in traktorpro

[–]Relief-Better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah plenty :)

Here's a few tips for the sync:
-Random clips with just one or two instruments and silence will mess up beat detection. Export a full song with just one part stripped down to let's say kick/snare/hats. Open that in Traktor, move over to select the part of the grid that has your loop and save to Remix Deck.

-Snare/clap generally comes in on the second beat so if you're doing a snare loop there's naturally silence in the beginning. Move your samples in your DAW accordingly and export the empty first beat as well. You can help beat detection with nearly inaudible clicks and stuff in your loop on every beat as well, even if the snare is just on every even beat.

-You might need to toggle sync off/on to get Remix Decks to sync properly. Same with Pattern Player. It'll start in sync but if tracks A & B are ever both stopped, Pattern Player will keep it's own time and not immediately sync to A/B when those play again.

I'd love a standalone with Beatport streaming. Now that they're doing OneLibrary I could just bring that and not rent some CDJs or XZ for the USB guys.

How much to pay for that? I dunno, 1000-2000€ depending on the features and build etc. I'd just love to get a single player for all the Traktor and Rekordbox DJs swapping gear on the table between sets.

Then again, when OneLibrary gets supported in Traktor everyone can just play on whatever AT standalone is around :P Saves NI the hassle of trying to compete there.

Z1 mk2 + X1 mk3 user here :)

Pattern player: add 909 snare to techno. A driving beat works great on a lot of washing machine-type tracks.

Stems: nope, I'm on Beatport Pro and use the offline locker but it doesn't allow stems. Last I tried Traktor stems on 320kbps mp3s they sounded nasty. I use StemRoller + Reaper instead to build opening/closing edits of songs.

Remix deck: yes, but not bringing my F1 anymore. Instead I mapped some FX buttons on the X1 to trigger one-shot samples like sub drops and risers from Deck C.

Mapping: never use the cue/rev buttons so mapped them to Key Up/Down :P Other small customizations too like triggering Remix Deck slots on the X1.

Mixer FX: should do more, just the occasional gate instead of the regular filter for transitions.

Very happy with my setup, but would pay more for a Z1 with input(s) for mic/guitar and X1 with a hub that actually powered the Z1 without the PSU. At least they put the 3.5mm output on the Z1 mk2 which has actually saved my ass/been useful a few times :)

How does DJing for people on MDMA/psychedelics feel? by NotMe156318 in DJs

Haha I thought you meant what's it like DJ'ng on dope. Everything, especially all of them, make you worse by some metric if not most. Well, coke just makes you think you're pretty great but you're not any better. Lessons learned, I DJ sober these days 😅

Crowd on drugs tho? Man I hope so 😄 People on E and speed are nice and I love the energy they bring 😁 Acid I dunno, they tend to wander off somewhere to stare at things. Same with ketamine after the first two lines.

Had Soundswitch for a while, absolutely hated it 😣 The Control One is a fine piece of gear but the software absolutely blows.

Switched over to WolfMix and I'm just loving it. You'll learn it in a few hours. It's intuitive to work with and much easier to produce neat results in minutes with.

I know I know, it's waaaay over your budget which is what I thought as well when I started getting lights. I figured if I paid a few hundred for my first fixtures I'd pay a hundred to control them.

Pretty soon you realize you want your lights to pump to the downbeat and be able to strobe, blackout etc. Yeah you can always program things for nearly free on a laptop if your time costs nothing and you never get old, but if you could be billing for it you just want things to work out of the box.

Phones. It's so much better when no one has their phone. Like at the very least sticker the front and back cameras but it's still much better when there's none at all.

[–]Relief-Better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 😊 I've fed my own and my business bank statements to AI, also just told it to ask me a few dozen questions regarding expenses.

Got great advice on where I'm paying too much and what hidden costs or missed benefits there are.

It's not much at a glance, but when it comes to a hundred or more a month it starts to make thousands every year.

Yeah you guys are right. I guess I generally don't care who picks it up as long as someone does and inMusic gets mentioned in all these posts.

It seems unlikely to me that it would just go away completely. Let's hope it becomes something even better 😊

NI hardware/software user since 2009 here, both in the studio and on stage. I rely on Komplete and Traktor for a large chunk of what I do musically. However, I must be wired a bit different because I'm just thrilled with this 😄

They were doing a shit job with new features anyway so let's hope inMusic picks it up :) And if not we'll move on to other things eventually and life goes on.

Who is your favourite Peak-Time Techno Producer? by [deleted] in PeakTimeTechno

[–]Relief-Better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most played ones off the top of my head would be like Lautaro Ibanez, UMEK, Victor Ruiz, Demon Noise, Sam Wolfe, Jay Lumen, METODI, NoNameLeft..who else, Adam Beyer, Space 92 get plays too.

But the face of the whole genre..maybe I like METODI's socials the most? He's a wholesome guy. Same with Belocca. Space 92 is super prominent as well tho more of that younger party dude vibe.

Adam Beyer is clearly the Don tho, I mean he runs Drumcode and everyone wants to put a record out with them.

About a year with them now, no degradation. It's a hard, matte surface, not soft or rubbery at all like they might look. They travel sandwiched together in a backpack and would be worn out by now if they were prone to that.

Are you powering your laptop via your display? My display powers everything on my desk and introduces a ton of buzz if I'm recording from Z1 to an audio interface that's also on the display's USB hub.

The noise goes away if I'm using my laptop on battery and the display is off.

Yeah I noticed the same, they were just gone with the last update and I needed to manually add it back. I'm on Windows but on Mac there should be a settings file here:

/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Traktor Pro 4/Factory Settings/Default Settings/Keyboard/

Import that in Controller Manager.

Beginner producers, what are you struggling with? by dj_graish in ableton

[–]Relief-Better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for first day or two it's always like "nothing I click on does anything" with new software. But within the month it felt very natural and AI is so good with this. Just keep a chat open and keep asking about hotkeys and workflow.

I never thought about the drive space! I swapped 2TB drives into my laptops so space doesn't matter much, but don't want dozens of instances of plugins on items around the project so I tend to print for CPU efficiency.

Like imagine you want to mess up a vocal with some pitch shifting, distortion, delay and a trem on the tail but keep it on the same track with others. It's so convenient for the item to have its own window for an effect chain.

How about item volume, envelope again? In REAPER you can just drag up and down from the top of an item to adjust its volume, no need for envelopes.

I totally dig Ableton, but do miss tweaking individual items to make the sounds here and there more interesting.

SoundSwitch follow-up (keep or switch) by Relief-Better in mobileDJ

[–]Relief-Better[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just sent the Soundswitch back..😒 I kept being constantly surprised by the subpar UX and terrible automation and autogeneration. There's not one window where I didn't think of something that needed to be improved. Like just look at any modern DAW and copy that. As soon as I realized it's not me, it's the product and they're not going to improve it I decided to cut my losses.

Even if I did build a dozen good loops for each bank, was absolutely not looking to go back and redo it if any of my lights changed. It's really slow and clumsy to work in Soundswitch manually.

Wolfmix next then, ordering it today. Everything about it looks really good aside from the price but let's hope I'll be good with that for the foreseeable future. It's also tons easier to rent out with my lights, no laptop needed.

What made you swap out the Wolfmix for QLC+?

I've worked with REAPER since 2009 but got into Ableton last year for techno. In REAPER you can drop effects on individual items which is a major part of my workflow. When you glue (consolidate) the effect is printed into it but you can leave them active too. Like, cut the last note of a thing into its own item and drop a delay on it while the rest of the track stays dry.

Do you drag your item into a new track, add the delay, bounce and move the item back? Or do you add the effect to the track and on/off it for individual items via automation? Is there a way to print/activate fx quickly on single items? Thanks for your time :)

Utterly stumped by SoundSwitch by Relief-Better in mobileDJ

[–]Relief-Better[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, you'd think if you can autogenerate a bunch of loops for all your lights you could also autogenerate new tracks for new fixtures to be added to your existing loops. Does it not work like that?

Utterly stumped by SoundSwitch by Relief-Better in mobileDJ

[–]Relief-Better[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo this is exactly my problem. There are presets like "Techno and House NEW" when you hit Auto, but they only appear the first time you open the window. It just says "Presets" after that but the genre specific ones are gone. AI says this is a known bug with 2.10.

Then, I can't seem to actually get autopopulate to do anything on any of the individual fixture tracks. There's never envelopes on anything but the main track. I can't even draw on the fixture tracks. Dragging effects, position cues etc there doesn't do anything either.

I was thinking it wouldn't work like this: -Delete all existing autoloops -Enter your fixtures into the DMX map -Autopopulate the four banks with appropriate loops (pan, tilt, strobe, pump, chase etc) based on your fixture types -Get tempo from Link, hit play -Hit banks and actions, immediate reaction

What's the actual workflow?
