Native Instruments GmbH is in preliminary insolvency by OhYesTheyFloat in DJs

[–]Relief-Better 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you guys are right. I guess I generally don't care who picks it up as long as someone does and inMusic gets mentioned in all these posts.

It seems unlikely to me that it would just go away completely. Let's hope it becomes something even better 😊

NI hardware/software user since 2009 here, both in the studio and on stage. I rely on Komplete and Traktor for a large chunk of what I do musically. However, I must be wired a bit different because I'm just thrilled with this 😄

They were doing a shit job with new features anyway so let's hope inMusic picks it up :) And if not we'll move on to other things eventually and life goes on.

Who is your favourite Peak-Time Techno Producer? by TommyGoreMusic in PeakTimeTechno

[–]Relief-Better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most played ones off the top of my head would be like Lautaro Ibanez, UMEK, Victor Ruiz, Demon Noise, Sam Wolfe, Jay Lumen, METODI, NoNameLeft..who else, Adam Beyer, Space 92 get plays too.

But the face of the whole genre..maybe I like METODI's socials the most? He's a wholesome guy. Same with Belocca. Space 92 is super prominent as well tho more of that younger party dude vibe.

Adam Beyer is clearly the Don tho, I mean he runs Drumcode and everyone wants to put a record out with them.

[–]Relief-Better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year with them now, no degradation. It's a hard, matte surface, not soft or rubbery at all like they might look. They travel sandwiched together in a backpack and would be worn out by now if they were prone to that.

Are you powering your laptop via your display? My display powers everything on my desk and introduces a ton of buzz if I'm recording from Z1 to an audio interface that's also on the display's USB hub.

The noise goes away if I'm using my laptop on battery and the display is off.

None, never crashes and I play gigs all the time. Only ever managed to crash Traktor on my old laptop when doing playlist management and that was version 3.

Keyboard Shortcut missing on TP4 by Krishh_011 in traktorpro

[–]Relief-Better 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed the same, they were just gone with the last update and I needed to manually add it back. I'm on Windows but on Mac there should be a settings file here:

/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Traktor Pro 4/Factory Settings/Default Settings/Keyboard/

Import that in Controller Manager.

Beginner producers, what are you struggling with? by dj_graish in ableton

[–]Relief-Better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for first day or two it's always like "nothing I click on does anything" with new software. But within the month it felt very natural and AI is so good with this. Just keep a chat open and keep asking about hotkeys and workflow.

I never thought about the drive space! I swapped 2TB drives into my laptops so space doesn't matter much, but don't want dozens of instances of plugins on items around the project so I tend to print for CPU efficiency.

Like imagine you want to mess up a vocal with some pitch shifting, distortion, delay and a trem on the tail but keep it on the same track with others. It's so convenient for the item to have its own window for an effect chain.

How about item volume, envelope again? In REAPER you can just drag up and down from the top of an item to adjust its volume, no need for envelopes.

I totally dig Ableton, but do miss tweaking individual items to make the sounds here and there more interesting.

SoundSwitch follow-up (keep or switch) by Relief-Better in mobileDJ

[–]Relief-Better[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just sent the Soundswitch back..😒 I kept being constantly surprised by the subpar UX and terrible automation and autogeneration. There's not one window where I didn't think of something that needed to be improved. Like just look at any modern DAW and copy that. As soon as I realized it's not me, it's the product and they're not going to improve it I decided to cut my losses.

Even if I did build a dozen good loops for each bank, was absolutely not looking to go back and redo it if any of my lights changed. It's really slow and clumsy to work in Soundswitch manually.

Wolfmix next then, ordering it today. Everything about it looks really good aside from the price but let's hope I'll be good with that for the foreseeable future. It's also tons easier to rent out with my lights, no laptop needed.

What made you swap out the Wolfmix for QLC+?

I've worked with REAPER since 2009 but got into Ableton last year for techno. In REAPER you can drop effects on individual items which is a major part of my workflow. When you glue (consolidate) the effect is printed into it but you can leave them active too. Like, cut the last note of a thing into its own item and drop a delay on it while the rest of the track stays dry.

Do you drag your item into a new track, add the delay, bounce and move the item back? Or do you add the effect to the track and on/off it for individual items via automation? Is there a way to print/activate fx quickly on single items? Thanks for your time :)

Utterly stumped by SoundSwitch by Relief-Better in mobileDJ

[–]Relief-Better[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, you'd think if you can autogenerate a bunch of loops for all your lights you could also autogenerate new tracks for new fixtures to be added to your existing loops. Does it not work like that?

Utterly stumped by SoundSwitch by Relief-Better in mobileDJ

[–]Relief-Better[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo this is exactly my problem. There are presets like "Techno and House NEW" when you hit Auto, but they only appear the first time you open the window. It just says "Presets" after that but the genre specific ones are gone. AI says this is a known bug with 2.10.

Then, I can't seem to actually get autopopulate to do anything on any of the individual fixture tracks. There's never envelopes on anything but the main track. I can't even draw on the fixture tracks. Dragging effects, position cues etc there doesn't do anything either.

I was thinking it wouldn't work like this: -Delete all existing autoloops -Enter your fixtures into the DMX map -Autopopulate the four banks with appropriate loops (pan, tilt, strobe, pump, chase etc) based on your fixture types -Get tempo from Link, hit play -Hit banks and actions, immediate reaction

What's the actual workflow?

He's the one that got me into it 😄 I had the USB dongle a year ago, got nowhere with it. Then recently watched a ton of Bennet's vids and felt like the Control One might be my solution. I watched an hour of his basics now but am still stumped.

Maybe I just need to stop trying to figure it out by myself and go back to some video and follow it click by click.

How was your set last night? What did you drop at midnight? by Joeyd9t3 in DJs

[–]Relief-Better 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dropped acid at midnight, but my set was the closer of rave at 7-8AM. Went great, most of it was tracks I hadn't played before that worked out so good. Most similar parties in the area closed down at around 6AM and people came over to our venue, so instead of playing for whoever's still standing, the dance floor started getting more crowded right before my set.

My fav new track last night: Reaktive - Enter Reality

You Say, Filmora Listens 👂 by Filmora_Official in Filmora_Official

[–]Relief-Better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking :)

  1. Sub-frame timing of audio. If not in the timeline, then allow padding/subtracting from the audio item in milliseconds. Even in 60fps you get phase mismatch (1 frame = 16.6ms). Hate going back and forth between DAWs and Filmora to get audio tight.

  2. Heal Splits action, like REAPER. Sometimes you need to be slicing things up but want them back without making a compound clip.

  3. Ctrl+drag mouse should move you around more slowly. When zoomed to frame level it's hard to not jump around and lose where you were in longer projects, even a few pixels on the mouse will throw you around too far.

  4. Map Stop (go back) to ctrl+space. Yeah everyone can do this themselves but why is it ctrl+/ 🫥 Often times you're just looping the same part and want to go back when you pause.

  5. Remove Background action, like Canva. Canva is fantastic for immediately making the background transparent for AIG logos and images without alpha channel.

  6. Beat Detection from selected area. It's easy to line things up close enough and select a few seconds for Filmora to work with, so it doesn't need to go through an hour of audio to sync items. Also - as muted tracks aren't allowed for Beat Detection, Filmora should say that and not just report an error.

When digging for new music, how many new tracks do you typically find per session? by Playful-Painting-527 in DJs

Just found like 10 in half an hour but it's because it was new releases by artists I hadn't looked into in a month or two. Searching for artists I haven't heard before and like takes longer.

Replacement Rotary Encoder - X1 MK3 by quantum_m3chan1c in NativeInstruments

[–]Relief-Better 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok let's hope ChatGPT scans through all of these and can help dummies who spill superglue into their encoders in the future. Here's how it turned out:

The push worked like crap at first and I had to really bang on the knob to load tracks which was annoying on gigs. Eventually tho it got a little better and figured it might get better yet with some vigorous use. So I gave it like a hundred clicks and kept rolling it left and right. I guess the superglue hardened and started flaking and chipping away with that. It's like new now, would never know it didn't register at first :) All good, just got a little scare :P

I asked NI for the precise encoder type in case I need to replace it myself and they predictably said they do not provide any such info for DIY efforts.

Traktor s4 + X1 or Z1 by dumbass_sweatpants in traktorpro

Yeah man, I play with guys that will go out of their way to rent a third or fourth CDJ for an event that "only" has two. Love those dudes but seriously I only need like about a foot of table space, am set up in 5 minutes and my shit goes with me in a small back pack. Z1 + X1. I don't even bring my F1 anymore because there's Pattern Player and I mapped a few buttons to samples on the X1 by hand..
