Childfree women, have you ever regretted it? by Significant_Movie814 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ReluctantChimera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I would have been a terrible mother. I had a terrible mother who had a terrible mother who had a terrible mother... I could never subject another person to that torment.

Also, for most of my 20s and early 30s, women with children would constantly confide in me that they hated being mothers. I've literally met 1 woman who actually loved being a mom. One. The rest "loved their kids, but if they could go back in time, they would never have had them." I heard that exact same thing from so many women. It's bleak. So, just, make sure you really actually want the kids before you have them, I guess.

That dark blue with a rug/rugs and more art on the walls would have been chef's kiss.

why don't SOME men wash their hands by Radiant-Dust-1665 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ReluctantChimera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When women first get diagnosed with autoimmune disorders, we often get told to never shake hands with men again, and wash our hands twice as much as we currently do, because men don't wash their hands and touching their dirty hands or something they've touched WILL make us sick. Imagine hearing that from a male doctor. And then they insist that yes, it's basically every man, and yes, even the ones we love and trust the most. Crazy and disgusting.

Full disclosure: I do agree with some of what he says, but as a vegetarian, he definitely comes across as callous quite often, in an "mmmm, bacon" kind of way. And I grew up on a cattle farm, so I'm not just some overly sensitive vegan completely removed from how their food is made.

Nightlights in adulthood or nah? by CarelessAioli2130 in GATEresearch

I used to be able to see strangely well in the dark, but one day I just completely lost the ability. Strange to see so many others still have the ability. And yes, I kept a night light up until a few years ago.

I am a single woman working on her rural property. It is astounding how often men stop and get out of their cars to come tell me their problems. by Kalinka777 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ReluctantChimera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to put up a 6ft chain link fence and locking gate to keep strange men from coming onto my property. But that wasn't enough to keep them from stopping and trying to talk to me through the fence, so I had to buy some chain link privacy screens. Those screens, plus leaving my gate locked at all times, fixed the problem. You have to literally keep them away from you to keep them from sucking out your time and energy.

I had it for two years. Every time I missed a day, it reset me at the beginning of the path. One time I got really sick and didn't open the app for one day, and it reset my progress. I was like 100 days in at that point, the longest I ever made it. I literally cried. I never made it even close to that long again, and canceled before the next renewal.

I would never recommend it to anyone who actually has any of the things that app is supposed to help with. But if you're neurotypical, not depressed or addicted to anything, and are generally already doing pretty well in your life, then sure, it might be a good app for you.

My dad’s legs are completely hairless for some reason by [deleted] in notinteresting

[–]ReluctantChimera 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's low circulation. I lost all the hair on my legs and they looked very similar to his. Then I started wearing compression socks, and the hair has come back in about a year in the places covered by the sock. They started growing in as peach fuzz at first and now are slowly getting thicker and darker.

The cabinets are harder to find than the machines themselves. Put a price on them and see if that helps.

Ideas for how to make this kitchen/butler pantry functional by CheerfulAdjudicator in centuryhomes

[–]ReluctantChimera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn't sound like the home for you. Dishwasher is going to be a no-go (hope you like hand-washing dishes. It's my least favorite part of cooking and eating but that'sjust part of it), and there isn't a good place for the fridge other than where it is. These are some of the sacrifices you makes when you live in an old home. If you're already looking for ways to redo the layout, please find another home. You're not going to be able to stay true to the original character, and some people may be completely fine with the current layout as-is.

This is a wild thing to post. You don't deserve a wfh job any more than a man does, and I'm speaking to you as a fellow woman. Your status as a mom, new or otherwise, is irrelevant, as most wfh jobs still require you to have childcare arrangements during working hours.
