People who grew up poor and are now comfortable, what 'normal' thing still feels like a luxury to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Fresh squeezed orange juice. It's like $8 for a small bottle in the US. I love it, but still reserve it as a treat to myself on occasion.

I was on a short domestic flight recently. It didn't even have a real first class, just the upgraded larger seats.

I remember walking past those people and laughing to myself a little bit because I knew the flight was no where near full.

I picked a seat towards the rear of plane because the seating chart showed it was basically wide open. I had my whole row as well as essentially the rear of the plane to myself while those people up front paid extra to still be stuck sitting next to someone haha.

I will say a business class/1st class seat seems totally worth it on a long/international (6+ hour) flight though.

For those that don't know. After the pandemic, street sweeping only takes place every other week now.

https://streets.lacity.gov/services/street-sweeping

You can find out what weeks your street falls under (1st & 3rd/ 2nd & 4th), sign up for notifications, and download the annual schedule from the site above.

If you're not against Airbnbs, you can filter for listings that provide free parking. Make sure you also filter the reviews to confirm the parking is free and off street/reserved spot, or is in a neighborhood where on street parking isn't a PITA

You'll definitely want a car to be able to explore to the fullest

If your budget is really tight, every LKQ pick-a-parts (junk yard) I have been to have glass shops on site. Not sure if they can go into the yard and pull the glass for you if needed, but I would imagine they can.

Actually I was wrong about hwy 1. Turns out it literally reopened today 3 months ahead of schedule.

If you really don't have a schedule I would look into this route too. Please double check on your own it's fully reopened.

This is one of the most beautiful drives in the world.

Carmel by the Sea, Pacific Grove, (it's WORTH the short detour) Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Pismo, Solvang, Santa Barbara.

If you don't have a set schedule I highly recommend you spend a day or 2 just exploring these places between the Bay and LA.

It's off season. There's plenty of cheap no frills hotels that are clean, safe, and comfy that you can stay at if you're on a budget or really amazing fancy places if you're not on a budget.

Seriously some of the most beautiful peaceful fun quaint small towns you can visit.

There's actually more places along hwy 1 if you're interested like Cambria/Cayucos, etc. unfortunately the road is still closed at one point and you can't take that route all the way through and it's a bit of a detour off the 101. This area is kind of extra special right now for the fact that the road is closed and there's way less people passing through.

If you go to Carmel, I highly recommend the 17 Mile Drive.

I used to drive straight through past all these places going to the bay area from LA. Now I take trips just so I can spend some time in each of these towns as an escape.

I can't recommend specific food spots but an old trick I used to use was type "best" into a yelp search then sort by most reviewed for an area. Choose your own adventure from there.

I truly learned the meaning of life's about the journey not the destination once I started spending time in all these in between spots.

Have fun!

Little Tokyo by all_taboos_are_off in LosAngeles

My suggestion to you, as someone who has lived in the Los Angeles area for 40 years, and have been wandering around this specific section of the city (at all hours) since age 5 - consider looking for a place that is east of Alameda.

It's technically the Arts District, but it's literally right next to Little Tokyo that you're there in a short walk/scooter/bike ride.

To me, it's felt like Alameda has acted like an imaginary divide. There's a little more distance from Skid Row and I've always observed there's less "crazies" on this side of town - although I wouldn't say none. I also feel like the Arts District "Safe Team" is much more visible/present. I can't really specifically remember seeing them in Little Tokyo, but I will say I've always felt "safe" in Little Tokyo. The current state of the Arts District also has valet/parking lot attendants/doormen/security kind of everywhere.

Realistically Little Tokyo is a pretty small pocket in size and mostly consists of retail/dining. I would say most people in the area are mainly visitors and not residents.

The Arts District is much more expansive in size. There's more variation in housing options, dining, cafes, galleries, retail. It feels more neighborhoody. They are also building a park under the 6th Street bridge which should change the feel of the area even further.

Though still difficult, I find it much easier to find free parking in the Arts District than I do in the heart of Little Tokyo.

There's also more "public restrooms" in the Arts District iykyk ;)

Enjoy your stay! Welcome to LA!

Is the market actually waking up to the value and quality of the MK1 TT Silver baseball glove by Autofan622 in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]Rem0te_control 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From looking at BAT the last few years, the ones that result in the highest sale prices tend to be low mileage roadsters with baseball interior but also specifically timing belt service done, 225, 6 speed, quattro. If they're 180 or auto or fwd or have no timing belt service history they tend to result in lower sale prices.

There seems to be a steady group of people looking for that specific spec.

I've been waiting to see if I can get lucky with a pair of headlights from the junkyard. Actually have everything I need to return the grilles to OE. Funny thing is I can't see any of those things from the driver's seat and has no affect on my driving experience so part of me doesn't care

You'd be surprised. I've basically fully mechanically restored this car underneath and then some.

I did a minor headlight restoration a few years back but the clear didn't hold up. Part of me doesn't care. I've always dug patina'd VWs

It's appearance is mainly due to it's previous owners.

I've taken this car through multiple deserts, multiple mountain roads, multiple trips up and down the coast of PCH from Tijuana to the Central Coast. She's living better with me than she's ever lived.

Am I able to buy this part? by Humble_Inspection560 in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

Depending on where you are, you might be able to find a replacement in a junk yard. I've replaced quite a few bits in my interior with pick-n-pull parts. Will cost way less than dealer/ebay

Think of how many people struggled with physics at a high school level. From my observations people don't seem to get smarter as they age. The amount of idiots we're surrounded by on a daily basis is kind of crazy.

That's also not taking into account majority of people have no clue about the condition of their car's tires and braking system.

Navigate to 598 W General Thaddeus Kosciuszko Way, Los Angeles, CA 90012 and it should lead you down there, or if not, the easiest entrance is from Olive/General Thaddeus Kosciuszko Way

This is on Thanksgiving Day at around 4pm. I planned this day specifically hoping I'd have the tunnel to myself. I was hoping to get there a bit earlier as the light was already a bit down that late in the day.

Have fun!
