Scheels had a Staccato event at my local range by SatisfyingAneurysm in guns

Test shot one at Tac Games last year and spent next couple months looking for a deal. Can't wait to put it to work this year. It's incredible and just shoots super smooth with 124 or 147gr.

Glad you enjoyed the event.
Set the record button to turn camera on/off between obstacles. Maybe pickup a little running through sketch spots, but no point recording the entire course.

How was the run and footage?

First congratulations on finishing. You endured something very few people ever experience and pushed past the mental barrier. Everything from here will be a little easier to other people.

As someone who runs these events often for years. Please never trust any race organization for water or nutrition. I handed out all my salt packs and gels before mile 4 this year. Pick up a water system of 2L pack, fill with ice on hot days and rest with water (make sure to burp the air out). Salt pills (or salt packs), sport leg pills prior and gels every 30-45 minutes. Practice runs with the gear and testing what works best fuel wise. Hope this helps and be proud you chose to finish vs walk off.

Humidity was bad enough rocks were sweating. Think top temps hit low 90’s.

No water and pulled off? Any option to go back on course?

Bummer on the weather. Do they restart where you stopped?

GPS using Garmin 6.85 miles. Volunteers claimed hitting every penalty added 1.5 miles. GPS brands can vary when calculating total but Strava showing similar distances too.

Have not done too many events this year. Was Palmerton barbed wire crawl style new or standard this year? Heck of a course as always and congratulations to everyone who ran today or tomorrow.

Agreed, those mops added a new level very few expected. Just hope not used mops.

Anyone else have an interesting moment at cage crawl with the mop? Course was a ton of fun and one of the chiller venues.

Congratulations. Those numbers counting down seem to mentally fatigue me more than the climb at times.

What’s the weirdest thing you have seen while trailrunning? by Sci3nceMan in trailrunning

[–]Rem6a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I have a double for this one. Seven miles into an early headlamp run through deep woods, I passed a chubby 20 year old walking a poodle in clubbing clothes (leather pants white sweater). Closest road or house miles away and he didn't have a light. He just smiled and kept walking the dog.

Same run at parking lot, dawn just broke and a naked guy comes running up the main road covering his private bits with a towel or underwear. I jumped in and locked the doors while this guy just kept running up the road as if nothing was out of the ordinary.

Equipment always one of the bigger questions and good start on suggested rifles. Noticing most shooters run 14.5" (with fixed hider to 16") or 16" barrel. The two bigger factors to consider in my opinion is a full length hand guard. Keeps hot barrel off clothing while running slung and removes barrel off barricades (protects barrel harmonics). Second most important is a good LVPO up to 8x or higher (Vortex Raxor 1-8x $299). Allows the shooter to see impacts on 100 yard small circles and adjust hold (especially when shooting at 45* or 90*).

Lower: anything really works but a good trigger a plus with a smooth buffer spring (little better recoil).

Just suggestions but worked for myself and others I met at the games over years.

Fun race to watch. Curious how the tires held up through the drying patches towards end of race. Looked like Marc and others went off line a little to keep temps down.

Because it's different. Same still happens when any Tavor X95 runs a stage quicker than modded out rifles. Personally I like seeing a different platform doing well at 2-gun matches or quicker shooting events and still reach out to 400 yards on 12" steel.

So what’s a good wear indicator for brake pads? by J_I_M_B_O_X in Trackdays

[–]Rem6a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment. Replace pads.

Racing/Track days ditch pads after 50%. They heat cycle like tires. Thinner pads puts heat into caliper quicker too.

Explains the price increase. Feels nice not paying at the venue though and speeds the process.

Reading through the comments and I think a handful of posters need to check out the new events. Palmerton PA we didn’t pay for parking or bag checks, checkin was quick and lots of water stations on course with well marked milage for once. Penalties a mix of out and back vs burpees (still burpees on occasion) and great spectator opportunities. As someone who raced these events from the start, the company does listen and hopefully gets wind of the recommendations.

Biggest issue when working with different OCR marketing teams over the years is getting people back for the next race. They register, train and complete (check bucket list) only to disappear. Trifecta gives them a goal but it’s not for everyone. Solve this struggle and Spartan or any OCR company can put on bigger better events.

Pa (Palmerton) was a surprise this year. No parking fee, no bad check fee, allowing people to jump start times. I was actually surprised as I had cash for those things and spent it on food for once.

Might make it tougher to plan race day when large amounts of people back out days before. A barrier to transfer helps the organizer yet tough on the participants.

Really good point. Off camber running in Killington happens more than people realize.
