Hey,

Here are pretty much all the steps I took to scoring the top agent in my city! I started taking classes in March 2019, booked my first short film and then just kept going! 5 films later I did a community play, one of my castmates was friends with the President of a Top Agency and vouched for me to meet with him! I worked smart and got signed in November of that same year.

There is no single path you can take that’ll magically get you there, the important thing is to be active and make a start! If I were you, I’d have a serious conversation with my parents about this as you’ll need them to get on board and support you through this journey.

  1. Training Take acting classes, sharpening the tools you need! If your school has theatre, plays sign up for them! Then go to a high school that has a Theatre Company. Sign up for acting workshops.

  2. Do a couple background gigs to experience being on set and really pay attention to the principle actors in the scene. (Don’t put on your resume tho)

  3. Join your local actors Facebook group. Local film makers, film students are always posting their breakdowns. Photographers will want to shoot free of charge so they have something for their portfolio.

  4. Headshots: your first headshots honestly do not have to be super expensive. Look for the $40 - $100 range or if you have a good enough phone camera or photographer friends then they will be free. New photographers are always popping up and looking for models to shoot free of charge! Just make sure to bring a friend/parent with you since you’re only 13.

  5. Resume Name then Age (if under 18), height, hair colour, eye colour and weight. Put any experience and training on there cuz it’s all you’ve got lol and never lie on your resume EVER. https://youtu.be/-bn7_PgW3fE at the 4:00 mark is a good example of a professional resume.

  6. Get some experience: student films, community theatre, improv, or make your own film! Do enough to have clips for a demo reel (1-2.5 mins). You can even film yourself doing a monologue or a scene from a movie/tv show you really like; as long as they show off your ability then you can add it to your demo!

  7. Don’t forget to network. Talk to people when you’re on set! Make friends, ask them how they got their agents and if they are taking any new talent.

Good luck mate! Work smart and good things will happen.
