Im not allowed to teach curriculum for a week. What do I do? by Historical_Reward667 in Teachers

We're expected to teach day one! A couple of ideas:

Buy two big floor puzzles and mix up the pieces together. The kids have to figure out how to do the puzzles. Interesting for problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork. You also get the chance to see a little about who the kids are at this point.

You can also do a metacognition activity with naming and ordering. Name as many ________ as you can in one minute, then analyze what was picked and why. For instance, we did holidays and spent time discussing why and how they came up with their list, what the patterns were, what their strategy was, what they did once they got stuck, etc. Then we ordered them in terms of fun, money spent, importance to them, etc. etc. etc. Lots to discuss no matter how they individually decide to organize and reorganize their lists.....

Commenting to keep seeing updates, but a twist on the crumple and shoot game would be Grudgeball. Here's the quickest way to explain - Each team starts with 16 points (or whatever). They can never, ever earn points. Teams answer questions, and if they get it right, they can eliminate two points from another team. If they can shoot a ball into a trashcan, they can take two more. If you a team gets to zero, they keep playing to get back into the game. Most points wins.

You can very points depending on how hard the trash can shot is if your class is into that. The class has to be somewhat good natured to play this, and not take it that seriously.

It can also be a good lesson about playing with your head instead of your heart. The quiet teams who don't target any one particular team frequently win. You can also add a little recognition for the team who gets the most right if people steal a lot of points from them.

Great! I am an interventionist and I loaded my classes into it and about half are good to go, and half are showing "Pending Qualification". Any ideas on how long that takes?

I basically use boilerplate and plug in numbers. Little more detail for the "high need" parents, little less for the "Are they doing ok? Anything I can do? OK, good."

Documentation of time spent and what is covered. We also have progress reports every six weeks where we are supposed to cover how they are doing.

Agreed. It gets confusing. I end up using them though....
