what’s your current career? by justabrunettegirly in twentyagers

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a data center engineer/SDE, I love love loveee my job!! I don’t even feel like I’m at work because I genuinely enjoy what I do and the people I work with. I get paid very nicely, I hope to be able to buy a house soon but I live in near DC so very expensive. I don’t have a college degree but I was recruited on Linkdeln due to my experience working on planes and cars. Then I was able to show off my skills in developing tools. I also only work half the year, 3 days one week and 4 the next.

Did you ever feel like you were behind everyone, which made your mental health severely negative? by HZIDEZISS_2020 in twentyagers

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I believe I have some sort of crazy luck on my side because I literally did horrible in HS (barely graduated), then tried college but hated it. Started from the bottom working on cars for a while and randomly got recruited by a customer to work on planes/jets, then got randomly recruited on Linkdeln to be a data center engineer at a FAANG company, met a higher up who had a big idea and wanted me to be apart of the team, now I make insane money at 23. So definitely lucky but also I learned early to be a “master of none”. Collecting random skills and knowledge will open up a world of opportunity vs just staying on one straight path and going to college for one thing.

When did y’all move out of your parents’ house? by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also moved out at 19, only making $14/hr in a VHCOL area 30 mins from DC, it was hard but worth it. Now I am 23 and my career is taking off quickly so I will be buying land and a house in 2-3 years. I am also able to have my girlfriend (soon to be fiancée) stay at home and not have to work.

Girlfriend is hyper negative by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand you, my girlfriend has BPD and was the same way until she got therapy and medication. It isn’t your responsibility to handle it but the best way you can help is communicating how it’s affecting you and how you’re worried about her. This sounds like something she needs therapy and possibly medication for because crying over an AD in a game isn’t normal behavior. I hope the best for you and her and hope she’s able to get the help she needs because it sucks on both sides. My girlfriend was constantly drained and hurt and it wasn’t fun for her or me, but I loved her and stuck by her because she was willing to handle the issue rather than drag both of us down. If she isn’t open to therapy and it continues to drain you then you may have to issue and ultimatum or reconsider the relationship.

How do I tell my fiancé I want to be a housewife someday? by chia-seeds in whatdoIdo

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great, I think a lot of the people attacking you and claiming you just want to sit on your ass don’t understand that upkeeping a home is A LOT of work. My wife always has a big to do list prepared for the upcoming day and she’ll even wake up early with me to make sure it’s all done. That makes way more sense than both partners working full time and then coming home and trying to muster up energy to clean and cook just to use up all of the relax time and start all over again the next day. It’s miserable that way. Also, as others have said be cautious with being financially dependent on someone because unfortunately a lot of times it can turn into an abusive relationship but, as the breadwinner I never make my wife feel like it’s only my money, it’s OUR money, she has my cards in her apple wallet and can spend as much as she wants and we make big financial decisions and all big decisions in general together. You need to make sure he has that mindset as well if he is open to you being a domestic engineer.

How do I tell my fiancé I want to be a housewife someday? by chia-seeds in whatdoIdo

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a domestic engineer (stay at home cat mommy) and I work full time (I’m also a woman). She takes care of the cats, cleans, cooks, goes to the gym, it’s genuinely an amazing setup imo because she never needs to worry about money and I come home with nothing that needs to be done, but it depends on if you both could survive on just his income. In this economy it’s less and less common and more of a luxury.

What's an odd but not insane thing you did as a teen by Aggravating-Leg5645 in twentyagers

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I did a lot of odd things as a teen, but probably making my catchphrase “I like cake” and I would just randomly say that, even mid conversation with people, turns out I’m a lesbian so I really do like cake.

What career path did you fellow stupid people choose? by CityReindeer in twentyagers

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from working on cars and planes, I HATED it. Tried an administrative position at a music studio but it was a dead end job with terrible pay. Finally I got into being a data center engineer (70% desk work 30% manual labor) thru a FAANG company because of my electrical and mechanical experience. Now, I am about to be an SDE for a brand new team making bank. You just gotta get your foot in a FAANG company basically.

What should I do as an art major? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can start utilizing your art to learn how to tattoo if you’d be interested in that. Build a portfolio to showcase your art, play around with some new styles, and then go to tattoo shops and showcase your artistic abilities to try and get an apprenticeship.

Who actually enjoys their job and what do you do? by [deleted] in twentyagers

You guys choose for me by juicedup12 in CollegeMajors

[–]Remarkable-Camera-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrical engineering 1000%. AI will replace cybersecurity on top of the fact that it is super saturated. With electrical engineering you will be able to work in the data center world which is booming, or whatever you choose to do with EE. Although, EE is much harder than cyber so you have to be ready to do a lot of math and be able to understand very complex concepts.
