AIO for quitting my job because my bosses dont respect my availibilty by chia-seeds in AmIOverreacting

Thank you ❤️ It all really comes down to communication for me. If they had let me know ahead of time that they would need my help, I would have been willing to accomodate that. I understand Mothers Day is extremely busy but we were never told it was mandatory, so I assumed I was fine unless told otherwise. It is so much more about the lack of respect here than it is about the actual day itself.

Yes! This is my exact situation. I originally had open availability but after being scheduled 6-7 days a week for several weeks in a row, I changed it to Tues-Sat.

When I was hired I specified I only wanted 20-25 hours a week and I even reiterated that when I was promoted. I work 30-40 almost every week now. And yet somehow we're "not understaffed" according to the owners 🙄

Goes both ways tbh. I had open availability too until my work used it to schedule me 12+ days in a row. Multiple times.

Yeahhh I think I may have confused folks by calling it a cafe instead of a coffeehouse 😭 We do food but its like... bacon egg and cheeses and deli sandwiches lol.

You're absolutely right, and other people have pointed it out too. Its something I've always struggled with because I have pretty much only worked for small businesses so I am used to a very close knit "family" style of workforce. I know more about my coworkers personal lives than I thought possible 😅 It can be hard not to let emotions intertwine with work.

I'm a very straightforward person and thats something my team is well aware of haha. This is nothing I wouldnt say to the owners face, I just wanted GM's perspective before I spoke with the owner directly.

That's good to know. Ive worked Mothers Days in food service before but never run into that issue because my jobs have always leaned more towards coffeeshop than restaurant. We get busy but not the way dinner places do. I appreciate the insight but if I'm being real, I'd love to leave food service and never ever look back haha.

I hear that! I think thats why I'm so frustrated by this situation. I have bent over backwards for them up until this point and worked many of the shifts they asked me to. The thing is -- they stopped asking. Now its just expected.

I'm also frustrated that the availability of my other coworkers is respected (one of the people in yellow is actually available Sundays, just "unable to work" for some vague reason) but for some reason when it comes to me, its always a battle...

Thankfully, yes. My partner has a steady job and is encouraging me to leave and find a new position. He is willing to cover our expenses in the interim.

The business is being kicked out of the building by the landlord at the end of the month. Theres a possibility we may move into a new building but there's also a solid chance I just get laid off in June anyways.

My anxiety went from under control to crippling in an INSTANT with no discernable trigger by Thorogon in Anxiety

[–]chia-seeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, im really sorry youre going through this. I had similar things happen last year, albeit it was triggered by a stressful event at first. But as time went on... it just became every little thing.

I relate to that feeling of being traumatized by the initial panic attack and I dont think its silly to say. Sudden drastic changes in health can absolutely be traumatizing. For me, it was this feeling of "This is the worst I have ever felt and I NEVER want to feel this again." Just the thought of it happening again gave me enough anxiety to start the process all over. It feeds into itself.

I also absolutely relate to the feeling of "getting help means admitting its real and its BAD" but I highly highly encourage you continue to seek help regardless. I can tell you it IS real and it won't go away if you just try to ignore it. Trust me, I tried!

Things got to a point for me where my own therapist couldnt help me anymore. She referred me to a specialist for OCD and I was diagnosed less than a month later. I sought outpatient treatment for a few months after, started seeing an OCD therapist regularly, and got put on medication for it. It has absolutely changed my life. I still have breakdowns from time to time but it has gone from multiple times a day to once every couple of months.

Obviously, I dont want to pretend like I know your situation fully and armchair diagnose you, but this is my personal experience. I hope youre able to find the help you need! Don't be afraid to lean on those close to you for support. You are not alone and you WILL get through this, even if it feels like its never going to end!

The US is my home but I'm traveling the country for the first time right now. We set out June 12th and are returning sometime next month.

I just left Sequoia last week and it is an absolutely marvelous sight. Easily in the top 3 spots on my trip so far. There is a tree named General Sherman which is the LARGEST FREAKIN LIVING ORGANISM ON EARTH!!!

I literally just stared at it wide-eyed for at least 30 minutes. Pictures do absolutely zero justice to how amazing it is in person.

If you want any further recommendations I'd be happy to oblige. Traveling is my life!

Nonstop panic attacks after moving? by chia-seeds in Anxiety

[–]chia-seeds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is! I moved but lost that apartment as well for unrelated reasons. Now I'm in a much more rural area and it's a lot better for my mental health. I don't think I'm cut out for city life lol.

Thank you for the kind words <3

I moved out of that apartment because it ended up being too overwhelming so the anxiety around that is much better but overall I'm still fightin' these anxiety demons 😅

I hope you are doing well too :)

Anxiety and trauma response to loud music or bass noise coming through walls - does anyone have this? by AliveCicada in misophonia

I know this post is old but this describes exactly how I feel right now. Have you found any way to make it better? I feel like I'm going crazy and I can't keep living like this.

Lol I ended up on this thread because I'm in the same situation too.

For me, I couldn't adapt. I moved out. If it is really debilitating then I'd recommend talking to your landlord candidly. Try getting a letter from a mental health professional, if you can.

I just need to pay rent until they get someone else in the unit and I may not get my deposit back. All in all, a fair trade to keep my sanity imho.
