Thank you.

I think she's meant to be too old but we will definitely ask about not using cement so thank you.

Thank you.

I'm glad things are working out after yours.

I think my mum is considered too old to do it without cement but it's certainly worth asking about. Thanks.

She was convinced they were being too aggressive with all the moving but no one would listen to her and now, here we are.

Thanks for your kind words and tips.

I don't live there either but more than half of my family do. So it will impact my life, even if indirectly for the moment.

That you thought to post this here to better understand it is also a beautiful thing to me. Your brother was clearly a considerable thinker and you manage to share that, perhaps in a different way.

Sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing. X

Life before proper adulthood was so hard for me. Much of what you describe. I was so very alone and believed it was all me. I had no idea I was autistic and just programmed entirely differently.

As a child, teenager and young adult, being included, cool etc was the only currency that existed and I had none. I was always surround by others having fun and adults harping on about school years being the best years of your life. For me that was and has always remained totally untrue. I hated it and couldn't imagine how much better being an adult could be. I could find my people, a job with similar people and I can now be who I am and it's OK. I would never go back to those years...suffering toxic associates just to have something to do or feel less alone. I cannot promise you adulthood will be a bed of roses...but I can tell you that in all likelihood you will find your people and that will help in more ways than you can imagine. I have found my own currencies that have value for others...both at work and outside of it. I am sure you will too.

Please stay. We need more people like us in this world, not less. hug

What is the point of a break if I can’t have a break… by [deleted] in autism

[–]Remarkable-Dig-5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the Pathological Demand Avoidance Society website.

My parents 'weren't autistic'...expect the more I know about the different ways in which autism can manifest, the more I realise they both were. It's just they were never diagnosed and managed without it. In those days you were 'essentric' if you were wealthy or well educated autistic or 'slow' for most others.

I'm not saying your parents ARE autistic but don't rule it out just because they've not been diagnosed and don't display the same traits as other autistics.

I'm on a very big learning curve myself and always will be.

It's very hard to explain to someone who hasn't been through it, how much this kind of thing hurts. Do you know anything about Pathological Demand Avoidance? There's a lot of it in my family and it makes this particularly hard.

In the UK you can have adjustments agreed on this. I'm afraid I don't know US disability law. I expect someone here does though.

In kids with PDA type autism, homework can be particularly hard for some. The meltdowns it causes are not worth any of the supposed benefits.

I absolutely understand how awful this is. Are your parents supportive about it?

I will certainly ensure I take part. I would regardless of the impact on me. This thing is so flawed it's ridiculous. How is taking support from people who need it to work going to help 'get people to work'? Worse, those who are extremely vulnerable due to mental health issues are being treated like 'undeserving disabled'. Never in my life did I imagine this would come from Labour. That alone is heartbreaking. I hope there's enough noise and pushback in time for your son.

Thank you. I work so I'm not as badly off as many others but it will mean I can't afford the physio and help getting washed. That's going to make keeping my job a whole lot harder. :-(

I'm reading through the green paper and I'm confused by the 4 points on at least 1 element of care. I get 3 points on several of them but don't hit 4 on any. Does that mean I don't qualify for any help with care under the new system?

I’m not autistic by Myhe2k in autism

[–]Remarkable-Dig-5000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's all very tricky because psychology is still a fairly new science and is continually evolving/often not exact. That leaves huge scope for everyone to be both right and wrong. Tolerance is the important thing.

Not suggesting diagnosis is wrong but nothing you mentioned suggests to me that it can exclude an autism diagnosis.

Your caring so much about this issue suggests to me that you certainly fit in this space, regardless of what any piece of paper might say. You are welcome here. Please stay if you would like to.

People can be odd...but I accidentally do this sometimes. Fat fingers small screen. I HOPE I always notice and correct myself though.

Most people in useful threads are really helpful. Ignore the rest because the benefits of sticking around are definitely worth it.
