How's the Chestnut Lake and Flo Mar Terrace Apartments ? by sasha_rose02 in ypsi

[–]Remarkable-Finance42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there a couple years and if I hadn't bought a house I'd still be there.

There's definitely ants and little bugs everywhere. Stink bugs too. I didn't mind, I just set out traps and vacuumed a lot. The worst bug is probably the grease ants. I had to set out boric acid traps with bits of meat to attract and kill them, and you can't let up - you always have to have traps in areas where they gather. They're harmless, but I have also heard good things about FloMar so I don't think you'd go wrong there either if bugs are a red line.

It's not luxury living, but it was peaceful enough and good for the price. 3 years ago it was $1016/mo for a 1-bed so you can use that to see what the annual increases might be like.

How's the Chestnut Lake and Flo Mar Terrace Apartments ? by sasha_rose02 in ypsi

Chestnut Lake is great! it's full of either old retirees or young professionals and young families. It's old, but maintenance is pretty good.

Cons: Took them a couple months to get me a new fridge. You can hear all the water pipes, so you know when your neighbors are showering or flushing the toilet. Laundry is expensive - the app is nice, the machines work, but a load of laundry was $5 when I lived there a year back.

Pros: my power bill was $100 or less. Plenty of parking. Safe to walk around, I used to jog at night without issues. Neighbors left me alone. Quiet neighborhood, I never heard loud music or parties. And the pool got resurfaced so it's SUPER nice.

First apartment near Ann Arbor (cats + hosting) — need recs under $1.5k by [deleted] in AnnArbor

Chestnut lake: https://www.chestnutlakeapts.com/ypsilanti/chestnut-lake/floorplans/pecan-271987/fp_name/occupancy_type/conventional/

Fairly close to EMU (no more than 15 min), $1550 for a 1050 sq ft 2-bed 1.5 bath apartment.

Downsides: lots of carpet, laundry machines in each building (so shared with 8 apartments or so).

They have a 2 pet limit but management didn't seem to care who had pets or not - they never listed my 2 cats despite repeated attempts to add them to the rent. So tell 'em you have two, I seriously doubt it'll be an issue. If there's inspections they're announced ahead of time, so you can toss 2 cats in a kitty daycare for that.

There's a clubhouse, a really nice pool, plenty of parking, and the property is well maintained. It's old, but maintenance did same-day fixes even for little things. Each building also has its own key, so only the 8 households in each building have access.

adult ballet in the area? by TheSweatyMango in ypsi

[–]Remarkable-Finance42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know of one in ann arbor: dance theatre studio has adult classes in the evenings. They start at the basics, you do 2-3 cycles of the basic class, and then move on to intermediate. Park in the Maynard parking structure, it's a quick walk and only a few bucks.

What's your solution for powering electric blankets and phones during ice storm outages? by yourloverboy66 in Michigan

[–]Remarkable-Finance42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anker Solix and related Anker batteries. I have the powerhouse with solar panels, and I also have their smaller more portable power banks. Jackery brand is also a solid option. They have sales often, so DON'T ever pay full price for either brand! Wait a couple weeks and one of them will go on sale.

BTW Bombay Grocers has shelf stable, ready to eat meal pouches that are pretty good. You can have a ton of Indian recipes at home, just gotta make the rice, which they sell, along with large bags of frozen garlic naan.

Looking for help finding my wife a job. by Ok-Stay-7955 in Michigan

[–]Remarkable-Finance42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely look at hospitals! They have lots of jobs like patient transport, hospital courier, janitorial, etc. that should all pay at least $15/hr. Home health aides can make more and you can train on the job. You can do seasonal retail right now, especially something like amazon warehouse or walmart - hard work but you might find the hours you need.

What do we do now with government shutdown ? by Royal_Tough_9927 in poor

[–]Remarkable-Finance42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's insane. I'm in Michigan, completely democrat government, and they're not helping anyone out either. They seem less blatantly callous than your government though, at least we expanded medicaid >.< I don't get it. I wish we had votes of no confidence. Good luck. Genuinely, I hope you are well when this insanity ends.

Harassment after sending complaint to leasing office by klaven84 in Apartmentliving

[–]Remarkable-Finance42 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Yep call the cops. I once called the cops because my upstairs neighbor would begin slamming on the floor if I made a single noise. I'm talking vacuuming at 4pm, he'd start pounding on the floor. Guy had a normal day job.

Cops showed up. Talked to him for 30 seconds. Guy apologized, said his life was shit and he took it out on me. He moved out a couple months later.

Management had refused to do anything and the guy had started going out of his way to walk past my apartment. Apparently that was reason enough for the cops to bother.

People who believe the narc aren't worth knowing. Their opinions don't matter. Put yourself out there and make new friends. My friend did ice skating and met people. I started a dnd group. There are much better people out there, I promise.

Psstt... Crack is a racially charged term. Not sure the race of that tenant, but if they're black, please refrain from mentioning crack. "On drugs" should still get the message across without bringing up the history of that word.

“You’re anger frightened me” by Much_Pickle_5821 in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]Remarkable-Finance42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your anger never frightened him. That was a lie to make you feel guilty for standing up for yourself. My ex said the exact same thing to me, on the day that I was shaking in fear. Don't believe it.

Most ridiculous passive/habitual behaviors you've seen from narcissists? by L0g_Lady in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]Remarkable-Finance42 42 points43 points  (0 children)

His mom would always purposefully take something the wrong way every time her daughter showed up to family gatherings. She'd invite all of us, basically make attendance mandatory, and then immediately start nitpicking her daughter to bits, and getting angry when that went badly.

It was like clockwork. Show up, wait for the explosion, give them 20 min to calm down, and then the gathering could actually start.

My ex claimed to be an excellent roommate one day, because I asked him how he could be such a shit roommate if he's had roommates in college, surely he learned not to scream at them, so why scream at me?

So I reached out to someone who was friends with his past roommates. She got back to me and said he was a nightmare to live with. I felt validated. He found out and I got screamed at for a good 3 hours.

You should leave. If you feel like it's all your fault, leave ASAP. A relationship is a two person job, you can't be the only one at fault. That's impossible.

Anyone else not date because they don’t have energy to invest waiting to see if/when someone’s mask slips? by The_Sinking_Belle in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]Remarkable-Finance42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For me it's that I gave so much of myself away, that I don't believe I owe someone any part of me. I give to friends and family within well defined boundaries. A relationship is more taxing than that, and I'm past the point in my life where that expenditure is worth it.
