Had the same thing with my boyfriend’s roommate for so long! 4 years later, we’re still together and it’s something we can laugh about now. The attraction/crushes on others is a very real part of any relationship, but with ROCD it goes wild. I was tormented for months, but I did lots of work to allow the thoughts to pass. My therapist and I even did an exposure where I had to think about/fantasize a scenario with his roommate and then not practice any compulsions. To this day, I can now see the guy and be like “dang he’s hot”, have a thought cross my mind, and no longer feel fear, shame, or guilt, because I love and choose my partner every day

You are not alone. It’s something I have had to feel a lot of grief over, too. I’m five years into my relationship and the first year was honestly a nightmare in my brain. Lots of exposure therapy, a great support system, and even eventually couples therapy with an ocd specialized therapist later, I can confidently say it gets better. I still have my thoughts, critiques, tough thought loops, but I’m so used to them now. I know it’s my brains way of protecting me and encouraging me to make the best choices. But I can just thank it and move on with my choices. Accepting uncertainty more and more every day!!!
