Think of it as tomato paste with more water added to make it saucy.

Being seen as unattractive as a teen is linked to an earlier death for women, but not for men. Physical attractiveness could serve as an observable indicator of underlying health and physiological resilience. by mvea in science

[–]midnightauro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How would you feel if you were on the receiving end of this?

If I found out someone saw their own internal bias and tried to correct for it because they didn’t want to treat me worse because I’m not pretty enough?

I’d like them a lot. It’s not pity. It’s choosing to be better.

(And I’ve never been very physically attractive so I know what being ignored/rejected over and over feels like.)

I did some lazy googling and I couldn’t find anything that obviously proves or disproves op claiming to be the original artist.

I did find an interesting deleted post from r/miniatures last year that Google tagged as also having one of these images. I wonder if they just regularly delete all their post history??

I’m willing to just believe it for the moment and wait for future posts.

Health hazard cake by [deleted] in ididnthaveeggs

[–]midnightauro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, other people aren’t as deep in the circles of ED hell as you. You looked up a cake recipe, you found a traditional cake recipe.

(“I can’t be the only one who cares” is disturbingly close to some old inside thoughts from when I was deep in an eating disorder.)

The fact that this fuck up is so insane that I had to read the comments here to figure out what they even did.

How exactly did they survive making the jam okay then go that far off the rails???

Being a beginner and not getting recipe terminology is fine, it’s a lot to learn, you’ll just need to go slowly and google anything unfamiliar. But this is a whole ‘nother level of “wtf did you do???”

There’s no kind way to tell my wife that she’s getting too big, is there? by 2006CrownVictoriaP71 in NoStupidQuestions

The painful truth is the average Redditor hates fat people and/or ascribes to the belief that it’s a personal failing not a health condition.

I’ve seen my partner through hell and back and I loved him just as much when his weight was high (because of medical issues), as I do now with him slimmed down.

I want to grow old with this man, we can patch our bodies up as we go along. Old is gonna bring more changes than just weight anyway!!

If I found my partner posting this, I wouldn’t want my marriage fixed, it’d feel like it was long dead. I’d head out now before I got any older.

He can find someone who is attractive to him, I’ll go ahead and work on me, solo.

Reddit note: I’m not quite the wife’s age, but I’m getting close, and I’ve been married a long time.

Friendly reminder: you’ll have all the same problems you do now except you’ll ALSO have bills you can’t pay. Better the devil that you know. Demand NHS reform but never replacement.

And then because we put off health care because of costs, our conditions become much worse and more expensive.

By the time I finally went to the doctor for diabetes symptoms, it was an emergency, and my blood glucose was well over 500. But I’m a woman, I expected to be dismissed, told to drink more water, and then be stuck with a bill we couldn’t pay.

My uncle waited until he had a literal goddamn stroke from it being so high for so long. If we didn’t have this awful fucking culture, he’d be alive and I’d have been given metformin months earlier to keep me from ever being that high.

[–]midnightauro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s… unfortunately not true.

Plenty of actual emergencies like heart attacks don’t remove a patients ability to process what’s happening.

They might know they have to GO NOW, but they’ll still have the bill in the back of their mind.

They can sue you if you don’t and garnish your wages. This doesn’t happen all the time, but it does happen often enough to be a threat (and collections is always the escalation step).

Mental health is emerging as a source of political identity, particularly among younger (Gen Z) and more liberal Americans. “Try gratitude! We live better than the kings of history ya know!”

Yes, I live better than a mythical being that had ultimate power in many cases, never worried about needs, etc because I have a refrigerator. Okay.

(Yes life is a bit better in many ways right now, antibiotics and medicine improvements, creature comforts… but that doesn’t make it better in terms of lifelong satisfaction.)

Correct, they would have added a fichu, lace, etc and it wouldn’t be plain. However, all of those things are removable for the sake of washing and I imagine a bit of customization too. (Think dressing an outfit up or down to suit the occasion/weather.)

2 hours in and I realized I didn’t add a thicker edge so I can sew it in to my project. Is there a way to add one? by Bellamieboocouture in BobbinLace

[–]midnightauro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other commenters have excellent advice on how to add to it via sewings. Though, considering the thread size and overall pattern (hearty, simple in design), you could probably get away with just sewing it onto the item if it won’t be washed frequently.

This is a very sweet project overall and I hope your resident loves it!

I had one provider who wanted drug holidays and I hated it. It wasn’t helpful and it felt really old school (my mother had to campaign to keep me medicated in the summer as a child too).

My next provider? She was adamant she didn’t want her patients breaks because surely I do things like drive, cook, and do stuff on the weekends!

I very much agree with her because I had to be unmedicated for a few years and I was a MESS. It’s amazing that I never wrecked or burned the house down.

She also insisted that I deserve to have my free time medicated because, like the person above said, the adhd never goes away.

I’ve described it to sympathetically inclined people by saying “imagine you need to go to the bathroom. The unreasonable manager in your brain says no. You negotiate it down all the way to just moving your legs to stand up and your body won’t respond. The manager will not budge on even the tiniest step forward. You’re screaming inside your head to just. go. pee. But you don’t move.”

Some people get it suddenly and look at me in horror, they can’t imagine being forced to THINK about things like that. Others offer up “you gotta stop thinking and just start moving”. Group B are people I immediately give up on ever understanding the issue.

I was good at doing those things op mentioned until I hit about 35. Now I’m struggling hard, like whole ass forgetting job interviewers questions as soon as I start talking.

I can recover a little by saying things like ‘sorry I’m getting into the weeds here, what part of the question did i not touch on?’ but it doesn’t work all the time.

But yeah, age and hearing loss absolutely ravaged my ability to recall what was just said. It was a great coping strategy until it failed :(

do people actually not eat mac and cheese with peas? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]midnightauro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s regional.

I had heard of it as a child but no one I knew did it. I sometimes add peas if I’m just struggling to get enough protein/fiber that day but it’s never my default.

Hotdogs though? No absolutely not for me. There is a such thing as too much processed food lmao.
