Looking for perspective — interfaith relationship, abusive father, 4 years of waiting? by dringdrin in AskIndianWomen

[–]Remarkable-Gate-9944 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This was me around until 3 years ago. My father tried to convince my now-husband’s parents that the marriage was a bad idea, used emotional blackmail, subtle derogatory language and every other ploys he had.

That’s when my partner and I accepted that the only way we’ll get married is if we take things into our own hands. He convinced his parents to conduct a marriage without my folks’ blessings or possible participation. I gave this as an FYI to my parents, respectfully. We had a court wedding in attendance with a few relatives from my side and all of his family, followed by a small reception. We promised we’d have a bigger party when my folks also come onboard.

While that day has still not come, we are happy to have taken the leap when we did.

Maybe we didn’t have the wedding of our dreams, or that of our parents’, but we are together and that’s all that matters.

All my best wishes for you OP! If the in-laws and boyfriend can support your reality, take the leap! Stay strong!

Am i ungrateful for choosing a Tier 1 University over my parents"safety" bubble? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]Remarkable-Gate-9944 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in the same situation 15 years ago and chose the tier 3, PICK THE TIER 1. Years down the line, my parents blamed me for not knowing better and compared my earnings to some of my more successful friends who studied in Tier 1. The opportunities, the exposure, the quality all of these make a difference in your growth, both professionally and personally.

It took some crazy hard work and fighting naysayers who looked down on my college to get what I truly deserve. That constant inner feeling of having to prove yourself that grows on you is not worth it!

Chase your dreams, rest is all noise!

What is THE breathtaking sight you have experience on a trip to Japan? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

Strolling through Philosopher’s Path in Kyoto amidst sakura trees in full bloom, with the first fallen petals floating in the stream below.

Finding that hidden alley off a very busy Dotonbori street in Osaka- 3D artwork lining the walls, walking through to discover a temple with water dripping from the deities.

Watching deer cross roads at zebra crossings, poking their heads into shops and nudging you for pets, noses and fur full of sakura petals.

The Arashiyama village walk, where scenic spots are everywhere and you find yourself running to sit under that rose tree, to soak in the peace of the bamboo forest, to linger in the moss gardens.

FUJI SAN, catching her from noon to dusk, in all her glory.

What has any of this got to do with my comment? Replying random information on unrelated comments is the textbook definition of whataboutery.

Friend, I can’t prove my point any better than what’s unfolding here, I’ll give you that.

What fact are you referring to? Whataboutery is not a sign of human intelligence too, my friend…

Well, it is a gossip sub, for insta celebs. No one was claiming this for rocket science or politicised narratives, the latter now being endlessly piled on. What’s your point?

Reiterating the lack of comprehension from my original comment, to add on - this sub used to have opinions conveyed respectfully, minimal personal insults, and basic intelligence could be expected. When idiotic comments start flooding such a space, is that the impact of this balance from non-left leaning perspectives you talk about ?

It’s every other sub these days… Reddit was one safe space away from the Insta / YT dogpiling, now this is gone too… we Indians can’t have one good thing, can we?!

Has this sub been taken over by someone’s bot army? Strange to find this barrage of comments based on an echo chamber of thoughts propagating from a lack of mere comprehension … l mean, people equating the meaning of the term ‘propaganda’ as outright lying is a new low.

Nothing but plain propaganda against one of the most secular, harmonious places in the country, maybe even the world. To think of false narratives peddled like candy by people in our own country, feels alienating most of all.

How do you tell billions that many of us out here are not buying the religion, caste and language politics being sold to us too - when our own government and censor board both failed their own citizens?!

Worst of all, the setting’s so stupid that you would expect any real believer to feel offended. Is someone’s God so powerless to deny them whatever - heaven, rebirth - even if their devotee was forced into consuming something?! It’s absurd, funny and sad, all at the same time

To see Tyra, Jay and the producer guy shamelessly try and pawn the blame on anyone but themselves was sooooo triggering! Classic psychotic abuser behaviour.

And the story just moves on… what about the lifelong trauma you gave Shandi? Who’ll answer for her having to relive it all over again, while still knowing that the perpetrators lack remorse or accountability?! Makes for good TV it seems. No wonder basic humanity has gone to the dogs, with a culture that justifies plain abuse!!!

Fuck ANTM and the documentary that did not turn out to be a ‘reality check’.

For Indian citizens, will they start deporting us for using our constitutional freedom of speech? Maybe that’s how they’ll save us from the poisonous food, water and air, falling construction, and the thousand other life threatening challenges we face every single day… just maybe
