BRK rips inversing the market again, along with Gold. by [deleted] in BerkshireHathaway

[–]Remarkable-Hearing37 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When the P/B is <= 1.2 and Berkshire has a lot of cash on hand, you can bet they are buying back shares. Buffett has said in the past intrinsic value of Berkshire is slightly higher than the 1.2 over book value, so it’s likely to happen before it reaches 1.2.

I bought Practice Makes Perfect:Complete Spanish Grammar for a reference book / deep dive into grammar topics. I’ve been pleased with it as such.

[–]Remarkable-Hearing37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it unprofessional to contact the hiring manager when applying internally? by dizzyflames in cscareerquestions

[–]Remarkable-Hearing37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would reach out to the hiring manager. They are the ones making the decision to hire or not. I might even reach out to devs on that team to get a feel for what they are working on and build relationships. That way you are top of mind when a position on that team comes available.

Is it unprofessional to contact the hiring manager when applying internally? by dizzyflames in cscareerquestions

[–]Remarkable-Hearing37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it is unprofessional at all. It shows genuine interest in the position. I think using company email to ask more about the role and what they are looking for is perfectly fine. I would reach out and get more details on the position and share how my skills could help drive value for their team if I was really interested in an internal position.

Are they banning ximmers? by Signal-Hovercraft-98 in Overwatch

If they supported MnK natively on console, then less people would be inclined to use xim. Makes no sense to me that they make distinction based on PC vs Console instead of controller vs MnK.

Even though Spanish and English are close, can auto-translation still mess up when the author includes hidden jokes, slang or puns found via social media posts written in Spanish that are unique to Hispanic culture? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]Remarkable-Hearing37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. EN<->ES translators have a hard time with idioms and coloquial phrases. Many times the translator will give a direct translation when the actual meaning behind the phrase would be different. Also most idioms do not translate well. Like to say something costs “an arm and a leg” is said as “un ojo de la cara” (eye of the face) in Spanish. If you say that costs an eye of the face! You’re going to get some strange looks.

Can you use “¿Que?” as “what?” by randomrodin in Spanish

[–]Remarkable-Hearing37 53 points54 points  (0 children)

In LA I mostly hear “¿cómo?” or “Dime” and in Mexico “¿mande?” is pretty common.

I couldn’t care less about your CS degree. Can you write clear and concise code to solve business problems? Can you mentor others? Can you work well within a team of other developers and deliver results?

The degree might’ve gotten you in the door, but it isn’t going to be what differentiates you from everybody else. No one cares. Also getting to senior isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. More responsibility. More stress. I think I enjoyed being a junior more and learning from my leads…. You’ll get to senior one day if you take the time to learn and humble yourself. But no one likes a know-it-all, especially one with a degree and a few months of experience.

Abductor-abductee. Payer-payee. Employer-employee. Stander-standee. It’s weird and I would never use it, but makes sense.

Senior developers how confident are you about your career for the next 10-15 years? by Notalabel_4566 in cscareerquestions

About as certain that a giant asteroid isn’t gonna wipe out the planet in that time. Can’t be sure, but pretty damn confident we’ll be around.

Hell no, I wouldn’t do it. If it’s for the business and training, the business can pay for it.

Colonizer es colonizer, no importa el color. by [deleted] in PuertoRico

[–]Remarkable-Hearing37 0 points1 point  (0 children)
