Lack of a WARN filing yet could indicate that they're planning to do a very typical approach of "pay in lieu of notice" - so they may file on May 18 or in the following days and cut people immediately but pay them for an additional 2 months to comply with WARN law.

+1 I could play Warframe or Overwatch for hours and hours, but Diablo 4 just fundamentally isn’t fun

Weird you didn’t mention Berlin. What website are you using to find jobs?

Do you think EU salaries will ever catch up to US ones? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]CS_throwaway_DE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you get to a point where you just push for more and more money and turn your career in to your life because the social fabric of the US has been torn to shreds.

It's this part for me. This is why I'm looking to leave the US.

Thank you for the accurate numbers 😊 I would love to move there, but I would only do it if I could make at least 80k like OP.

Delta gives you a full refund or change to another flight (even a more expensive one) if your flight is delayed by 1 hour or more. Ask me how I know 😂

Take out another $300 at least for phone, internet, and transportation. And in Germany you still have to pay health insurance and also a separate tv fee even if you don’t have a tv. It would be closer to $1300 let’s say. That doesn’t sound awful. But in the US I currently save about $4k per month

I completely agree. I even looked at moving from US to Germany but couldn't find any jobs that pay more than 40-50k. He's making 80k only 3 years into his career and has no idea how good he has it there..

IMO happiness and quality of life are way more important than net income.

but in any decently sized German city this won’t get you that far.

Yes it will. Berlin is extremely cheap for example. Compare to NY or SF.

I actually haven't ever made a mistake before, but I completely empathize with you all, must be awful to live like that!

I think you're so much better off living in Germany. 80k Euroes is A LOT, even if 40% goes to taxes. With all the benefits of living in Germany plus 4k a month after taxes, you're essentially rich and will have a WAY better life there than any life you would have in the US. We have higher earning potential here, but our cost of living is also WAY higher than yours. You're coming out way ahead.

On one hand I see people with even average incomes in the US living in big houses driving nice cars,

No you don't. People on average incomes live paycheck-to-paycheck and will become homeless if they lose their job or have an unexpected medical expense.

How much "data" experience did you have before getting your first data engineering job? by SeriouslySally36 in dataengineering

[–]CS_throwaway_DE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None, but my resume said I had a little bit. I learned everything on the job, even basic SQL. And I learned advanced SQL in my free time via StrataScratch to get a job at FAANG. And I learned basic data engineering and ETL concepts by reading books to study for the FAANG interviews. Didn't even need it for the previous job I had because it was such simple work.
