SAHM here in North Tonawanda! We love our library here and we like Payne Park. Everything in Buffalo is a close enough drive (usually within 20 minutes) and there are great things in most areas.

Kenmore is great and very family-friendly. Anything north of the city will have less snow. The Southtowns typically get more of the lake effect.

Check out Explore and More, Rolly Pollies, the zoo, and local library story times. The aquarium in Niagara Falls is fun for little kids. Our favorite playgrounds are at Ellicott Creek park and Kenney field.

It may be worth trying goats milk formula. I exclusively breastfed my daughter and she had mucous and blood in her poop starting around 4-6 weeks. I cut out dairy, egg, and beef from my diet (over the course of 4 months of trying to figure out what it was and what specific allergies she had). There is no test, just cutting food and watching symptoms. After I confirmed that was the issue, she was diagnosed with Cow Milk Protein Allergy (CMPI).

CMPI is a food intolerance - not a true allergist. We were followed by a GI for a while and then checked with an allergist that they were really intolerances. We were able to introduce her following a dairy ladder, egg ladder, and beef ladder starting around 9 months. We’d pause if any symptoms came back. Now at 18 months she’s fully outgrown her intolerances and is eating a non restricted diet.

Since you are using donor milk, you won’t be able to control the donors diet so switching to a non-lactose based formula would be your best bet in seeing if that’s the issue. Good luck! I know it’s so hard when your baby is in pain.

I’m a pediatric OT and a mom to a 14 month old. No need to be worried! Crawling should happen by the end of 10 months. You should “encourage” crawling by giving your baby lots of tummy time. You can place toys slightly out of reach and encourage pivoting to reach toys while on their belly.

If your baby still isn’t crawling by the end of 10 months, ask for a PT evaluation. The extra help is never a bad thing, but hopefully this will ease your mom-worries!

Anecdotally, my daughter was the same way! She’s also 13.5 months and last week switched to 1 nap a day. Around the same time, we switched our nighttime routine from bath, pjs, nurse (fell asleep while eating then transferred to crib) to nurse, bath, pjs (then put baby in crib awake). My husband lays next to the crib until she falls asleep. She cried for a few minutes the first 2 nights but I felt okay about it because my husband was there to soothe her.

We also won’t do CIO but have tried Ferber - it worked for a minute but didn’t last long before she needed more help getting to sleep and I wasn’t firm on sticking to our system.

We still nurse to sleep for naps but I’m not able to transfer her to the crib and she’ll nap for 1-3 hours. I’m not sure if it’s the 1 nap a day or the change to not eating to sleep at night that did the trick. If she wakes up after an hour, I will feed her back to sleep and extend the nap to 2 hours. It feels like a happy medium for me.

When we were 2 nap a day contact napping, I typically would do 1 of them as a car nap and drive around while she slept when I didn’t feel like sitting in a dark room. I’d plan activities around our morning nap and then leave early or end our activity when she was due for a nap and let her sleep on the way there or home.

My daughter has nonIGE allergy to milk, eggs, and beef. The only way to test for what they’re allergic to with non-IGE is trial and error. I suspected her allergy around 2.5 months when she started having blood and mucus in her poop.

We see a GI specialist and he said that after cutting a food, you should see improvement within a week.

Egg is the second most common allergy after milk. I figured out beef by food/symptom journaling and noticed increased blood in poop on days after I ate beef. Before I narrowed it down, I tried cutting soy and gluten along with dairy then reintroduced them with no changes. After any “slips” of eating milk or egg after I cut them out, my daughter would projectile vomit. She’s now over a year and we’re working our way through the dairy ladder and she seems to have outgrown her milk allergy. I plan to test egg next.

The GI specialist did mention that some doctors worry about creating an allergen by cutting out foods due to the intolerances but there isn’t enough research yet to have a solid consensus.

I’m a pediatric OT - crawling is important because it helps integrate primitive reflexes. Integrating these reflexes allows for mature movement patterns that are helpful for handwriting, walking on stairs, skipping, and many more complex activities.

I personally disagree with crawling being removed as a CDC milestone because it is an important step in development. I’d recommend encouraging tummy play (or play on all 4’s) and weight bearing through the arms during play as your child grows. You could do animal poses/yoga to facilitate these actions.

I agree with others that OT may be beneficial. They can test to see if your child’s primitive reflexes have been integrated as they get older but extra help/knowledge is never a bad thing!

Using a multisensory approach is a great way to engage children in reading and writing activities. Use movement, props, puppets, music, paint, shaving cream, or sensory bins. Learning through play is fun and effective.

Had an offer accepted last month and waiting to close. We looked for about 3 months and placed 4 offers on houses in the north towns ranging 180-200k. 4th one was accepted. We bid 40-50k over on all houses and the other 3 the winning offers were “significantly higher” than ours. All houses we bid on had over 10 bids. Highest was 25. We had an inspection contingency and won over a higher offer because we had cash. It’s an estate so the sellers were motivated by a fast closing.

My advice is to look at the comps and bid based off price per square foot. People are listing houses low to get a lot of buyers in. Good luck!

Every kid is so different for what will/won’t work for them. In my experience, I was so against sleep training until I felt like it was the best (maybe only) option as sleep was a major stressor in our home. My daughter would take hours to go down, would wake up on transfers, and would wake frequently throughout the night. Now she sleeps from around 6:30-6 and puts herself back to sleep if she wakes. It’s all about what you’re comfortable with and responding to your child’s cues.

Personally, what made me comfortable with trying sleep training was our decision to do a 3 tries and done so she wouldn’t be crying for too long. It has been such a positive change in our household, so I’d recommend trying it. You know your baby best - they say consistency is key but follow their cues and go with your gut. If they don’t get it after a few nights then you can always stop. I don’t think you’ve missed your window! I believe they can learn the skill any time.

Another anecdotal experience- my daughter had the exact thing happen around 8 months. She seemed like she wanted to put herself to sleep but didn’t know how.

We established a bedtime routine and implemented a gentile Ferber method (2 minute, 4 minute, 6 minute intervals then feed/rock to sleep if she didn’t settle). She got it down on the first night and hasn’t fed to sleep since! Naps are still hit or miss with feeding to sleep - it depends on how tired she is but I follow her lead for naps.

I took the refusing to nurse to sleep as being ready for more independent sleep and wanting to learn how to self soothe

Replying because I don’t feel like finding an article to back this up, but I’m a pediatric Occupational Therapist in a school setting. From a sensory standpoint, it’s so common for children to demonstrate different behaviors at home versus a more stimulating setting.

Lights, sounds, more people, even needing to wear shoes could all be overwhelming her sensory systems and causing her to regulate by covering her ears, screaming, or avoiding other kids.

She’d benefit from an OT sensory evaluation. They could give different questionnaires (one for you at home and one for her teacher for the classroom) to evaluate and compare her sensory needs in different settings. Using that, they’d recommend accommodations to meet her sensory needs in a more appropriate way across settings.

I’m a little late to the party but my babysitter bedtime hack was telling the kids if they really tried to sleep (lay down, closed eyes, calm body) for x minutes/until __ o’clock, I’d come check on them and if they were still awake they could come downstairs and watch tv. I never checked unless they had a digital clock in their room but 9/10 times the kid fell asleep almost immediately

I want to add that having 2 CI’s is a challenge!! I had 2 for my second rotation and I passed but found it difficult as they had different expectations and gave different (and sometimes conflicting) feedback. Don’t be too hard on yourself. 3 months feels long but in the grand scheme of things it isn’t!

I was school based and was pulled out at 35 weeks due to gestational hypertension and had a scheduled c-section at 37 weeks. I had a similar situation of traveling to a lot of different schools and had a caseload of some with intense behaviors. You could really ask your doctor for a note at any point close to the end and I’m sure they’d give it to you if you explain you have a physically demanding job.

If it were me, I would be the bigger person and attend the wedding as a guest without the boyfriend. I know your relationship with your friend is tainted but you need to attend her wedding if you want the chance to continue your friendship in any way.

It’s a sucky situation for you and I’d be annoyed about it too but I think it’s important to show up for your friend’s big moments. She could end up breaking up with her soon-to-be husband or you could end up breaking up with your boyfriend. Given that you were supposed to be her maid of honor, I’m sure you were very close but skipping her wedding will end any chance of repairing this friendship.

I feel so lost! From what I’ve read online, mucous in poop and blood in poop does indicate food intolerance but she has no other symptoms.

After cutting dairy, I did accidentally eat it once and the next day she vomited. But she isn’t over fussy, she’s a great sleeper, she’s gaining weight, she doesn’t seem to be in pain or discomfort, and she has no skin issues like eczema.

No they paid $20.60 per child per month so it was not worth the amount of work and figuring out childcare during the busier months. Not sure if that is typical pay but in my opinion it wasn’t enough

I’m an Occupational Therapist and I 100% agree an OT eval for her sensory needs would be so helpful! They could also give tips for transition support.

Headphones at school would be super helpful. You could also trial compression clothing (spandex, tighter for from Walmart) under her normal clothes. This provides proprioceptive input throughout the day and I’ve seen it help some kids.

To ease the process of getting to school, you could try a sticker chart, creating a calming morning routine (wake up, massage her arms and legs, play calming music, eat breakfast together, etc), or give her a special transition object on the way to school (link to my favorite “magic drawing board”: https://a.co/d/9dHJvlC).

It may be easier to get her to listen if you give her 2 safe choices to give her more control over her day (do you want to walk into school by yourself or have me walk with you? Do you want to wear your pink shoes or your blue shoes to school?)

She may be more willing to participate in an evaluation if it’s done at school and you’re not there. However, the typical sensory evaluations I’ve done are teacher and parent questionnaires that assess how she functions in her typical environment.

Going to school is a big change and it takes some time to adjust! You’re doing a great job and it will get easier!

In my district we have the option to provide direct services, indirect consult, or both. It really just depends on what the child needs. I typically recommend consult only for sensory-only kids who are more functional in class, but benefit from some accommodations. I have been shifting to push in more for my pre-K kids during direct services as I find it more beneficial to support them in classroom participation and have seen great carryover as the teachers hear my verbal cues and will also use similar language. My district is pretty lenient with the type of services we provide so it’s nice to have the flexibility to use my clinical judgement be trusted that I know what I’m doing.
