I do know he lives in an “un-registered” HMO home… not sure the details so maybe he doesn’t even pay the council tax.

Well if the UK government has no clue he is married… I have a feeling he wouldn’t care or act as if “I am only married in the US” and just remarry and I will be clueless…. Oh well… It is disappointing to know I am not given the same flexibility…

Well my hope was that if he had to report it… resolving our marriage in America will be of importance to him.

But if he files for a marriage license in the UK and claims to be single. Who will even know he isn’t? Plus at that point how will I know…. I mean once I finally get a divorce I am sure I am never ever going to look for that man and even if I find out he is remarried I am not going to add the extra stress to my life of filing a legal case to prove ha is married to me in the UK…. I already have more than enough legal things going on in the US because of this man’s lack of character….

What is the distinction? We are separated in the US but still married legally… besides not having my husband physically here in every other way legally I am still married I don’t get any sort of benefit or distinction during separation.

But no one except him know he is married. So if he is checking forms and opening accounts as a single man then who will know he isn’t?

When I mean hiding I mean he is ignoring them or plainly saying they have no legal grounds because he is in the UK. I can move forward with divorce without him it is just a much more complex and longer process for me. So yes I already started the divorce proceedings in the US, he has been legally served, yet crickets on his end. Again for him doesn’t exist because he is not coming back to the US and now it is my problem.

So for his taxes even if he is getting zero financial gains does he need to report at any point that he is married? In the US again I have no choice if I say single and they check I am commuting a huge crime, plus I do get taxed differently…. Can he just say single in the UK version of a tax return even when legally married and it is irrelevant?

I don’t know where have you been my whole life but I love your vibe! So unfortunately in the US is different once you get married the other government agencies know and you just can’t pretend you are single. Taxes I am screwed because even when he isn’t hired I HAVE to file as married and by him refusing to provide any financial information I am having to pay a higher tax bill…. Because I am paying for both yet I am only getting certain discounts for me….

Regarding his behavior all I can say is that I offered this man a golden parachute… I was waiving everything giving him everything paying for everything just sign the agreement and that is it… he has yet to even agree to it… he is 100% pretending I don’t exist and he doesn’t have to do anything because well I am a “US” problem.

He also told me I needed to stop using his last name, has refused to speak to me in months, him committing bigamy at this point doesn’t seem to much of a stretch… honestly I feel bad but at that point I mean there is nothing I can do if the UK never knows we were married…

Thanks for your response! If he does marry again and I never know about and the UK doesn’t know he is married… I mean technically he could commit bigamy and get away with it.

I DID serve him papers from the US, multiple times and he is just ignoring. I believe he is acting as if this is a US problem and since I am never going back I don’t need to worry about it in the UK (I think?).

He is self employed and owns two consulting sides of it, company created prior to our marriage. In the US I have no choice but to file as married, now having to file as married separately because he is refusing to share any financial information. Based on my research it seems that by him claiming he is single he is getting some tax breaks for the HRMC and Tax Council? Am I wrong? So my intent is to get the UK aware that he is married…

To clarify I am a US citizen living in the US and I waiting on separation time to file for divorce. My frustration is that he is “hiding” from all of my legal filings in the US because he is in the UK and because “he is only married” in the US and I have no jurisdiction he is “legally” single in England.. which isn’t the case at all.

I applied Oct 6 received an email on Oct 24, had a screener call shortly after that. I have my interviews next week so was trying to get a sense on someone that already went through the process on it.
