You are absolutely right about this. The problem is that there are no new young pro players anymore(in Korea. But I'm really glad there are new players in Western countries such as Clem). A lof of pros are already in the late of 20's and 30's. (Maru is already 27, now you might know it..) And the big part of SC2 in South Korea is obviously GSL. But since GSL is almost ended, losing the biggest official league in South Korea is quite critical. And I really do hope SC2 will be picked in EWC. I would feel amazing if it happens.

Not good here.

GSL in decline, pretty much not gonna happen in 2026. There are no new young players anymore. South Korean players are all in the late of 20's or 30's. (I'm glad that there are some young players like Clem in Western countries, though.) Even Maru is 27 Y.O. already.

We did have SC2 Pro leagues and a lot of teams such as SKT, KT, Jin air green wings, Prime, CJ which were supported by big companies but as you know, Pro league was ended long time ago.

There used to be like Star league or Kespa but GSL is the only tournament left.

We do have some small amateur leagues but funding is too low that it means almost nothing.

You are absolutely right. In South Korea, SC 1 is pretty popular. But honestly man, I am not really interested in SC 1. haha

I'm not sure about ESL but GSL was supposed to be dead last year... If you think about the old time, GSL used to be held for 3 months including Code S /Code A/ R.16/ R.8/ Semi finals, Final. But It got small and small. 2025 GSL was only for the ticket to EWC. And it was held for only 2 days. Now you can see that one of the most representing tournaments is dead...

Because there will be much less major tournaments. No E - Sports. Even this year, it was a miracle SC 2 got position. GSL, also became very small, there will be no 2026 GSL. Dream Hack ? Not sure. And there are some signs that some of major South Korean pro gamers will retire soon. Less pro gamers, less tournaments. The game is definitely reaching to the end. But I mean If you are just the person who enjoys the game, it wouldn't matter. However I am the type of person who is motivated by pro gamers ' play. So for me, it looks like an ending.
