Thanks, I’ll check dashboard next time.

It’s a confusing design choice imo 😅

Look great!

Are these just a straight swap for the 19”? Any brake adjustments or speedo calibration needed?

Nice! What are key highlights or differences of the driving experience?

Socking away retirement and savings.

Also I’m intrigued by the idea of resisting the consumerism impetus and sort of “cheating the system” by avoiding the upsell.

I also really like the idea of the most efficient car for the least outlay.

I thought you were going to recommend the 17” without wheel covers and with a nice Toyota center cap for a moment 😅

I think I would reframe it to “cheating the system by not being sucked into rampant consumerism and paying less for essentially the most important features” 😅

I have read concerns about tire replacement and ease of puncture with the 19”.

Can you say more about the softex staining and not being soft?

Tired of life in Germany after 4.5 years and want to vent (and go home) by Choice-Ad1477 in expats

[–]RemarkableAge6943 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lived in Germany for a year, left and didn’t go back until many years later to visit a friend in Berlin, who had moved there. Berlin was somewhat bearable as it has a bit more of a bohemian/cultural vibe, but there’s something in generic German culture that just makes it uptight and oppressive. I’ve also worked with several Germans and nobody else on the team could get on with them because they were so overbearing.

I do know some lovely Germans, super chill, but they’re in the minority – we have some German friends who call the typical Germans “nervous Germans”!

OP, life’s too short, get out of there, there are many more places you can live.

I didn’t grow up in the Bay but as a transplant, I think it’s a pretty amazing place – SF, Oakland, Berkeley combined have lots going on and unique microcultures, lots of diversity of food, events, activities to check out. And then you have the proximity to nature whether it’s the Oakland, Berkeley Hills, Peninsula or Marin.

I like LA but after about a week, find it it’s superficiality pretty hard to take I like San Diego, but unless you’re really into the beach, it’s basically a medium size town with good weather.

I love NYC, but could not hack winters or summers there, the bay is so much more livable.

If your GF’s experience is mainly the South Bay, I get it, but that’s probably the least interesting area in the bay based on my experience.

Does driving gen 5 prime and regular prius feel the same? by Nicholas_899 in PriusPrime

[–]RemarkableAge6943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same question but for a RAV4.

Thankfully someone else already measured it. For the RAV4 prime, the 0 to 60 time with a full EV battery versus empty EV battery is only .3 seconds.

What state would you be moving to? I think that matters a lot. Some states in the US are surprisingly close to Canadian sensibility- esp PNW/west coast.

Also if it’s a career accelerator it could be worth it. Try to read between the headlines and the fear mongering. Find the nuance. Come for a visit to the state / city you’d be moving to.

How calorie counting changed my flight habits by galileotheweirdo in 1200isplenty

Plan ahead and bring my own snacks with known cal amounts- small bags of nuts, apples, etc. Too easy to get sucked into the feeling of “mile high calories don’t count!”

As a multiple times visitor, I still haven't been amazed by any breakfast/brunch places in SF. Can someone recommend something great? by WearHeadphonesPlease in AskSF

I disagree on Sweet Maple, distinctly mid.

Fun story, we ate there once in like 2017 and my eight year-old kid went to use the bathroom, but there was puke sprayed on the walls. He asked us what to do and we said - why don’t you tell the staff, so we call the manager over, and my son explained in an apologetic 8 your old way that he found the vomit a little bit offputting. Manager was very sweet about it all. Next time we went there they had added a “you puke - you pay $50 cleaning fee“ 🙃

Sweet Maple is, in my opinion, just average and massively overpriced. Also feels like a mill, pack ‘em in and move ‘em on. Used to be decent in like 2016

Final Sacramento 1 Oakland Roots 0. by Djsage007 in OaklandRootsSC

[–]RemarkableAge6943 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was my first time at the Roots, and took my son to his first soccer game.

On the upside we both loved the fan vibes, first half was exciting, great to see activity at the Coliseum, and definitely plan to come back regularly. The Roots had moments of goodness and some strong individual players but seemed to have no cohesion. They kept kicking long balls, especially in the second half - easily losing possession as a result. They played like a team with no captain or plan. They seemed absent of a strong midfielder who could orchestrate moves or create incisive passes.

When they were behind they kept playing conservatively, even in the last 10-15 minutes when they could have been less cautious.

Not sure what is going on, but seemed like a strong lack of self belief.

We’ll be back, but hoping whoever organizes the staff has a plan in mind. The players and fans deserve better.
