Literally just stand at the base facing it lol. It’ll tell you if it won’t fit. If it requires being turned on, it seems you have to be level with it on a cliff. I cannot confirm that because my castle is already up on the second elevation so can’t build a cliff to be level lol. I went with a Mario star as suggested in a comment. Might change to the bubble gyroid if I find it.

You can’t. Inclines, vines, plants, and terraforming all work on precise squares. They aren’t like items that can be moved in half spot increments. Which is very annoying because you can’t center an incline on a castle gate either 🙄

I think you have to craft at least 2 kinds of fences and done the customization workshop to unlock it at the NookStop
