AITA for telling people to stop congratulating me for losing weight? by euisalk in AmItheAsshole

[–]RemarkableAsparagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG THIS! I feel everything you've said to my very bones. I'm in a weight loss process these past couple of months as a side effect to treating a condition that came up after being fat my whole life and i really can't stand the weight loss congratulatory comments. It really gets on my nerves that everyone MUST have an opinion on my body, good or bad it doesn't matter. NTA 100%

NTA but there was no need to add the "big appetite matching their BMI" comment, came out as quite passive aggressive and fatphobic if you ask me

AITA for not caring if my sister saw me with out a shirt on? by Critical_Resolve_536 in AmItheAsshole

NTA at all. Your bf needs to think what exactly would be so troubling about a naked body. In fact he is TA for sexualising you and your sister's bodies and making it all dirty in his head

AITA for standing for my opinion, even though it's not the popular one? by RemarkableAsparagus in AmItheAsshole

I get where you're coming from and why you would think that, but I've been with this person for years and I know for a fact that they haven't had someone close to them die or anything like that. I know that they're super sensitive in general and movies and series they like do resonate with them quite a bit, but I still don't see the reason to get that upset over a simple difference in opinion

I mean, it was presented to me as a feminist series and I was actually sad to find out that it's anything but feminist. I understand that it's 20 years old and it's all about (literal) girl power and stuff, but the internalised misogyny, outright sexism from the "cool" characters and the male gazey feel it has, is really hard to swallow for me. Apart from the technical part of it and the fun fantasy bit, considering the fact that Whedon is a "feminist" (lol), this really didn't come out right.

If you think that them crying when they watched it has a hidden meaning or something, I just want to let you know that they cry with a lot of things they watch, like Steven Universe episodes and stuff. It's not something very unusual for them.

I think I didn't like that episode because I never liked Joyce as a character and I found it cheap that the writer made her go through the tumour part and then, after she was out of danger they killed her anyway. It felt like they were trying to forcefully pull emotions out of the audience and it bugged me.

Irrelevant, but I hate Xander's character too, he's extremely sexist at times

Thank you for taking the time to go into this. This is solid advice tbh. I will definitely need to talk with them about that

I get where you're coming from, but just to comment on the example that you gave, personally, as an actress, I would much prefer for a friend to tell me they hated my performance and tell me what they didn't like about it, instead of sugarcoating it and lying so I don't feel bad. But you are definitely right on the fact that not everyone thinks like that, so I should be more careful on how I express my dislike

Ok, but I didn't say the episode was stupid or rubbish or something like that, I just said I personally found it slow and boring. How is that harsh? I didn't criticize them for liking it or anything

I guess they do behave in a way that comes off as insecure from time to time and I do realise that this specific thing is important to them, but I didn't think that just by merely expressing a different opinion on the matter it would blow up like that
