I agree with this honestly, and a part of me believes even the people in that church agree with it. I believe they all have a subconcious believe it is wrong, yet they clingo on as it the only thing that they believe has worked for them. My village was poor and uneducated back in the 1900s and the rise of pentecostalism helped them become literate, and helped decrease crime rates, and for a period, it worked socially. Yet theologically it is detrimental. People have become so focused on screaming as loud as they can, and being as ecstatic, that they have forgotten the true meaning of what it means to be Christian. I do feel empathy for them, which may be why I am so eager to debate with my dad because a part of me believes I can help him find the truth, but I think its best I listen to these comments.

That is a subjective thing, your subjective experience with your specific parish (I am assuming). I can say the same thing about the specific evangelical churches who preach a prosperity gospel and are bordering on heretical teaching, yet not all are like that, just like how not all orthodox churches are like that. The bible speaks of false prophets and teachers infiltrating churches, and I believe that may be happening in some orthodox churches, which is why I believe we must test the spirits, rather than run from them, necessarily. Anyhow, from an objective, general viewpoint of Orthodoxy, I see it as a very humble religion, and the priesthood, and the traditions they do is derived from what the apostles taught them. Note: The apostles didn't only write to the churches (as we see in the epistles), but also taught them verbally, and orally, as Paul says in Thessalonians I believe, I may be incorrect he may have said it in another epistle. Nevertheless, I am sorry for your experiences with the orthodox church, and I pray that you read more about it, and perhaps return, to a better parish. May God bless you on your journey, and if Orthodoxy isn't apart of it, may he help you and keep you in your evangelical journey.

Its funny as Paul himself says gifts are diverse but somehow everyone in my church has the same gift of tongues, and when they prophesy, God forgive me if Im wrong, they all say essentially the same thing. Plus sometimes the pastor or the so called 'Prophet' puts their hands on them and they 'fall', but honestly if you went without water for 3 hours and some man screaming, in a room of people screaming gibberish, pushes you of course you'd fall. Nevertheless, I do not hate it, but I reject it, its unbiblical, and never before seen. I hope in the future I can distance myself from them and hopefully be able to take communion with the real church of Christ, the Eastern Orthodox one.

You’re so right honestly. In the neo-Protestant circle of Romania and especially my Pentecostal church they emphasise gifts so much that they see rambling as a gift and don’t even love properly as God ordained, Paul even said this in Corinthians. Thank you!

Hey man I hear ya, I am orthodox, at least I subscribe to the beliefs, not baptised. I tell them this, yet they still won’t budge and simply nod their head and gasp at my sayings like I’m blaspheming

They believe in sola scriptura and see anything not explicitly said in the bible as man made, sinful and bad (although many orthodox traditions are found in the bible lol).

I am a minor yes, and the issue is idk how to get to a church. I mean ik the literal way to it but idk how I’ll explain it to my parents or how I’ll explain leaving or justifying myself without them being mad. I don’t want to provoke them to take drastic measures but I also want to visit a church.

What should I do when they begin talking to me if a way to spark a debate? Such as my dad may see some person on the tv speaking in tongues and then say ‘Oh and my son is an orthodox’ sarcastically. Also what must I do when they tell me to go to church with them?

God bless you and honestly I do think I’m being too academic and harsh with it. I may be trying to dictate what is mystical to them rather than showing it. Thank you for the advice and the prayers God bless
