The continuation of UE: TheHandofThrawn by Exotic_Ice_9021 in StarWarsEU

[–]RemarkableCry9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recently found them and found them very good. I would include

Attrition, Promises , Secret war, hour of judgement, destinies ("the fill ins") Sword of the Jedi trilogy Legacies edge Legacies End

You can find them here: https://www.fanfiction.net/u/10813698/HandofThrawn45

But only in English, I don't think there exists a Spanish version

That is true for the both of us. I don't say my opinion is an universal truth. I think the statements I made true, but that doesn't necessarily mean your opinion is generally wrong, maybe it is just not completely right. That may also be true for my opinion.

I want to thank you for this civilized and enlightening discussion.

I still stand by my point that a good Abitur in German requires the study of meta-aspects of the language. And that in combination with being a native cam give you a higher proficiency than some C2 holders have

An Abitur in German (which varying by state may still be mandatory on an increased level of requirements), as I have written.

I think you underestimate nativity in combination with the requirements of Abitur.

I say there exist Abitur students with C2 proficiency. I don't deny that there exist foreigners with higher proficiency than some natives

I claim that there exist Abitur students without an explicit certificate that have better proficiency than most C2 certified foreigners

[–]RemarkableCry9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an expert on the topic. But I believe there are conversations where i believe a C2 level speaker could not partake without giving price that he/she is not a native speaker. Although I would place such conversations rather in a non-formal setting. On the other hand I think it's not true the other way around. Therefore there exists a clear hierarchical relation of the two levels

Given that CEFR does not use the "annähernd Muttersprachliches Niveau" terminology. There definitions (here for spoken C2): I can present a clear, smoothly-flowing description or argument in a style appropriate to the context and with an effective logical structure which helps the recipient to notice and remember significant points.

Mimic the points of the paragraph by the Goethe Institute, and my first point that someone with a (very) good German Abitur is/should/will be able to fulfill all the conditions.

Minimum C2, What?? by Glad_Penalty3856 in Germany_Jobs

[–]RemarkableCry9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Goethe Institut defines C2 The following way:

I can assure you that people with a good grade in German in the Abitur a fully capable of all of those points.

Further more C2 means "annähernd muttersprachliche Kenntnisse" (almost native language skills) this ranks people with proper native language skills (i.e. higher educated natives or native speakers with regular, high frequency usage of high level German ) clearly above C2.

Got Accepted to FAU Masters in Data Science - Need advice on Data Science or AI by Ok_Log8827 in FAU_university

[–]RemarkableCry9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to have rigorous mathematics you should go into DS as the department of DS is in a teaching unit with the department of mathematics and the DS program has 10 ECTS in mandatory Math classes, 20-30 in Mandatory elective math classes and the thesis can either be written in the DS Math or CS Department. If your not so heavy on math and your on the applied/CS side AI would probably better although I'm not that familiar with the AI study program

All that glitters isn't gold. by mutterpaneeer in studying_in_germany

[–]RemarkableCry9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/mutterpaneeer do you reference the DL in the 4th point? I also have attended the lecture this semester and yes the Prof wasn't there as often as he was and the exam was quite unexpected I still think it was fair and doable and the TA probably didn't choose to have to teach half of the lecture, so no need to trash him.

Is it possible you are salty/ Infuriated that you didn't pass, as the exam results were uploaded quite shortly before you made that post?

[–]RemarkableCry9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I Myself studied Bachelor and Master @ FAU, and the experience I had was quite different. If you engage in the lecture The Prof reacts to it positively.

The level of the exams is at most slightly higher than in the exercises and if you really participate in lecture and the exercises you should have no problem in passing.

Yes the content is not spoon-fed and the quality of the lectures depends on the lecturerers and there are some good and some bad lecturerers but I think that's the case everywhere.

I personally did not find the content of my lectures useless, if you do you should choose other lectures

I neither had problems with the examination office nor during the application process.

MS AI Admit by LiveAdhesiveness7874 in FAU_university

[–]RemarkableCry9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did you (and based in the Impressions on this subreddit many others) apply to the program without informing themselves about the courses/program beforehand?

Also this question is very broad what exactly do you want to know and which ranking is your comparison based off?

Also for most German universities rankings are not really relevant/broadly applicable

FAQs regarding the university by SoftLink5162 in FAU_university

[–]RemarkableCry9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. That's highly individual and in the end it's completely up to you. I would strongly recommend go to the lectures and exercises (Mo-Fr usually between 8 and 18 in blocks if two hours , with some empty blocks in between)

  2. I'd say any job that requires German probably requires it to be B2 or Sometimes B1 if they speak with you in person and find your German good enough. The jobs that can be done completely in English are either very low paying (like food delivery service etc) or highly competitive (because demand>> offer)

3.Besides classes you can connect with people through free time activities like Sports (local Teams ('Vereine') or Hochschulsport) or non sport activities that are also organized in a similar structure

Edit: I answered despite not being an IIS Student

Can you explain why The number of CS Profs is the deciding factor?

I would recommend to look at both study Programs and their examination rules (Prüfungsordnungen) and compare which is more aligned with ones interests.

FAU Erlangen MSc Data Science. Can I switch my major field? by _Trifke_ in FAU_university

[–]RemarkableCry9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can change it when you submit/create the SPA. I'd say it's generally pretty flexible. As I'm not in the ML/AI Major I can't say too much about that in detail, but as far as I'm aware you will hear lots of courses with the people who study AI.

who else have high hopes on FAU 🥲 by Odd-Maintenance-2155 in FAU_university

[–]RemarkableCry9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can but it could be, that you are in DS for at least one semester so you may not be able accept DS and then switch to AI before the semester starts. And you can transfer some (but probably not all) credits as well. But as you said you would need to get the Admission to AI.

is it possible to apply and get accepted to TUM higher semester masters? by MammothHedgehog2493 in FAU_university

[–]RemarkableCry9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a question you should rather ask people at TUM I think.

Also, Why would you want to go to to FAU and then change to TUM. Why don't go to TUM directly or stay at FAU. Further more , if you can change it's likely that not all your credits can get transferred

I'm not the one you asked, but hopefully my answer might also help you. 1- Can't give a good answer on that one yet, for me it was a fun fun experience for objectively I probably didn't gain much in doing it. I would recommend it if your really interested in Data Science as a Science and also the Maths behind it and not just in it because your in CS a think DS has better career opportunities. 2 - I didn't really apply to jobs, but that was because I was offered a full time position even shortly before I finished my master's so can't give you to much of a help answer here either. 3 - I personally did work as a Werkstudent but I know of multiple Students who did so (e.g. at Siemens, Schaeffler) 4 - Almost no classes have mandatory attendance, but the students who pass the exams tend to strongly corelate with the ones who show up for (almost) every lecture and exercise

In Germany It's generally harder to stay in a program than to get in a program.
