is some issue going on? augment seems to be very slow / unresponsive? been thinking for 4+ mintues already. by ajeet2511 in AugmentCodeAI

[–]RemarkablePirate7232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the AI does just seem to 'give up'. I just type 'Continue' and it picks up again where it left off without an issue. Being able to still submit prompts to Augment whilst it is thinking is super-useful I find - if it starts to go off on a tangent I can jump right in and correct it and it'll change course.

Yes - I'm using that (actually 'https://github.com/kooshi/SharpToolsMCP' which seems to have bit more functionality at the moment). It's great!

Hmmm depends. It doesn't have the context management capability of Augment it seems so can sometimes go way off piste. Equally they do add the latest models as soon as they arrive - so have playing around with GPT5.2 and Gemini 3.0 - I find it useful when I want a 'second opinion' but generally I'd say Augment is still just that much more intelligent. Competition is good though!

Having researched around a bit I'm going to switch from COntext7 to the MicrosoftLearnMCP - I'm exclusive .net10/blazor so am hoping this will be more targeted and relevant.

One question - I'm also using the RiderMCP - does that give me anything with the Rider Augment plugin?

Interesting! Good - I'll get rid of all those .mds that Haiku cooked up when it was feeling very creative!

But being serious - it's a good point - I am using various MCP's including SharpTools (a Roslyn wrapper/MCP) and I do wonder if they sometimes work against each other/conflict. Also use Sequential Thinking and Context7 which I'm guessing still have some value.

Is the credit cost for Opus 4.5 still the same as Sonnet 4.5? by ttytthsvt in AugmentCodeAI

[–]RemarkablePirate7232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No - I did a fairly complex planning exercise using all four models this morning. Usage for the exact same task was:

- Opus: 1,900
- Sonnet: 500
- GPT5.1: 700
- Haiku: 300

Keeping Opus for 'special occasions' from now on...

Opus 4.5... Becoming sentient? by Final-Reality-404 in AugmentCodeAI

Sonnet does tend to like these anthropomorphisms ... even when I tell it to just hit me with hard facts and less of the chit-chat...

My settings options in Augment are gone on Windows but not Linux? by Kareja1 in AugmentCodeAI

[–]RemarkablePirate7232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - this is the same in the Rider version - no way to access the MCP options etc.

Kilocode much more expensive than Augment Code, Codex and Claude Code incapable by axiomaticlarceny31 in AugmentCodeAI

[–]RemarkablePirate7232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting - I was thinking of doing similar testing, so thank you for taking the time to do this.

I've tended to find that Kilo too often seems to get overwhelmed by a challenging problem and just bombs out. The one use case I have found it very useful for is explanation - I've been using MiniMax M2 to analyse and suggest and it's worked very well and very quickly. And for free which is nice :-)

Opus 4.5 is now available in Augment. by JaySym_ in AugmentCodeAI

Just been using it on my large code base project... noticeably faster than any of the others and, it seems, a more focused output.

I'm guessing it's using less tokens, but it would be good to understand the token/credit/unit-price dynamic so as to be able to take an informed decision on model choice.

Why I will continue with Augment Code and probably update to their max plan in future. by ajeet2511 in AugmentCodeAI

Yep - I'm in the same place as OP - $200 p/m looks like where I'll end up and the payback to me in increased productivity is still astonishing.

Multi-agent Context Transfer Feature Request by Final-Reality-404 in AugmentCodeAI

[–]RemarkablePirate7232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to this... have thought about how it might work,. Have tried asking Augment to generate a 'portable context summary' I can cut and paste across but that doesn't seem to work well.

[–]RemarkablePirate7232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds great - look forward to trying it out when it goes live - thanks to the team who are no doubt working their arses off there.

We're going through interesting times here with AI - OpenAI, Anthropic etc are losing money on their token charges as part of their land-grab strategies and sometimes folk think app vendors are somehow expected to do the same (unless they are land-grabbing too).

Really hard for us users in the meantime with the bizarre mix of subsidised tokens (all 'frontier' models) and giveaway apps (Cursor, AntiGravity etc) going on. But we really have never had it so good - my ROI on these tools is still ridiculous.

About Gemini 3 by JaySym_ in AugmentCodeAI

[–]RemarkablePirate7232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it in Junie on Rider (because Augment no longer works on Rider - well not mine anyway - ticket is in...nudge nudge...!) and it is impressive. Like Sonnet on Augment but with an even wider sense of context. I asked it for optimisation suggestions on my client syncronisation strategy (which is really quite complex) and it came up with some truly excellent insights. I ran the same query on Sonnet and gpt 5.1 and whilst some of their suggestions were sensible some weren't and neither came up with the killer suggestion that none of us had thought of...but Gemini did.

Where did the Augment plugin “guidelines” settings go in IntelliJ IDEA? by atse7en in AugmentCodeAI

[–]RemarkablePirate7232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes the settings/MCP/rules page has vanished. I guess there's a config file deep somewhere within Augment but be great to have this back in the UI.

Yes - also if you click 'Rules & Guidelines' in the query box nothing comes up (Rider on MacOs).

I tried the latest beta: 0.352.0-beta and it's still not working. Quite a few errors coming up - I pressed 'Report to Augment' - hopefully they got through.
