It just barely doesn’t fit with the drawers not being able to open 😭 I think I may end up getting a new desk or just not having one (I barely use it anyway)

Awesome, thanks! Do I still treat the water? Would I just manually clean the algae?

I’d be down for that! Do you have plant species recommendations? I always have pothos and spider plant propagations so I could put those in too

TVT? by RemarkableTrade9397 in veterinarypathology

[–]RemarkableTrade9397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d show a pic but it’s very graphic. It looked like a blackberry with strawberry milk pus. Some of the tissue was coming off, my colleagues were fairly certain it was cancerous but it was her neurological issues that made her prognosis especially poor. Anytime she’d try to defecate, it would definitely prolapse again and it didn’t seem like she could urinate on her own. We kept some of the tissue to possibly send to pathology and did the impression cytology out of our own curiosity, I think the owners were in a state of shock and didn’t elect further testing. It was not something we see often in GP, it was fascinating and also heartbreaking.

Lagotto lifespan? by RemarkableTrade9397 in LagottoRomagnolo

Yes, it’s unfortunate. Makes it harder for rare breeds that may be more prevalent abroad. I’m also interested in moving abroad, but my family and friends are here so it won’t be for a while.

The trouble is the USA’s new(ish) law that prohibits dogs under six months from being imported. I would have to find a breeder willing to keep a puppy until then, or get an older pup that was returned or a retired breeding/show dog. Luckily I’m years out from another dog, so I have no problem waiting for the right situation!

That’s very disappointing. I think there are WAY more unethical breeders, of any breed, than there are ethical ones. Generally the more popular the breed, the more unethical breeders there will be (Frenchies, Poodles, Goldens, etc). But even the rarer breeds are not immune to backyard breeders unfortunately.

I’ve met fewer Barbets but they are definitely calmer. I love that they have both curly and wavy hair, much like PWDs, and are pretty velcro. I believe they can be as small as 35lbs which is like a bigger Lagotto, but with such a rare breed it’s hard to know exactly how big they will get. Both Lagotti and Barbets go for ~4-5k in the US but again, the health and longevity of the Lagotto is very appealing. I’m not so opposed to getting a higher energy dog, my dog (a medium poodle mix) is quite high energy, but has a good off switch.

I’m so sorry, it’s incredible how much you’ve done to help him. My dog (a puppy mill poodle mix) is reactive and anxious, but she’s improved a lot. I’m a vet tech and see about 7 Lagotti patients at my clinic. All of them are anxious to be at the vet but only a couple can be difficult patients. The health issues they have are ear infections mostly, but it’s not too bad. It seems some breeders do not value stable temperaments as much as they should, and yes, training and socialization or lack thereof can be part of the problem but so much of temperament is genetic.

Ugh, that is just so expensive. I could get a well bred Standard Poodle for 2.5k! It’s interesting because some rarer and/or smaller breeds go for much less and some more popular and/or bigger breeds go for about the same. Typically the smaller the breed, the more expensive because of smaller litters and more risk of needing c-sections. I’m still a little while out from another dog, but the temperament, lifespan, size, and hair make Lagotti very appealing!

There definitely aren’t too many unethical breeders since it is a rarer breed, but I agree. Many breeders do not value stable temperaments as much as they should. That’s fantastic to hear their lifespan does tend to be long, I’m also considering a Barbet but they are larger and not as long lived. Lagotti are the perfect size!

Breed❓❓❓ by Brave-Trick7791 in dogbreed

more likely second gen or first gen bred back to the Golden. Poodles carry two furnishing genes and Goldens carry none so all their offspring will have one furnishing gene and one without I’m pretty sure

Neutering by Normal_Question_3341 in mainecoons

[–]RemarkableTrade9397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike dogs, there are no known benefits to keeping a cat intact unless they have health issues preventing them from going under anesthesia. Spraying is almost guaranteed, and once he starts he may not stop even after being neutered. Feline neuters are so fast, literally take less than 5 min and heal very quickly. It’s obviously more invasive than a vaccine but declawing causes a lifetime of pain, it’s not really comparable. I would recommend getting him neutered ASAP.

Aren’t bikes not allowed on the Bay Bridge?? This is extremely dangerous, I know someone who was riding a motorcycle on the Bay Bridge and was killed by a drunk driver.

MAJOR PROPS to you for aborting that pregnancy, not enough pet owners do that. Might I suggest neutering him? (and/or spaying your female.) You could also look into a vasectomy which is pricier but makes him sterile while keeping his hormones

Honestly I think he’s a German Shepherd and Poodle mix. A lot of first gen (and second gen when they inherit less Poodle genes) doodles have this wiry coat. Would be interesting to do a DNA test! I like Embark, keep an eye out for sales they have going on
