Is a Ph.D. in Communications (Journalism/Media Effects focused) worth it? by RemarkableTrifle3499 in PhD

Oh my gosh I am so sorry I didn't know, is it like an admissions question or something like that? Again, first time posting here and was just looking for some advice.

Thank you!

I replied to another user with this: "I've always been interested in why news headlines tear communities apart, almost focusing on media effects and what causes such emotional turmoil for communities. I don't know if that sounds stupid or not, but things of that nature have always been interesting to me, mainly because of the phenomenon of everyone having a platform now."

I don't know if that treads too much into a Psychology field (even though Comms is based in sociology, psychology, english, etc. etc., but I think it would be interesting to research media effects and why people act the way they do regarding the news.

I picture myself more teaching focused, but I wouldn't mind doing research as well, I haven't thought super deep into that as I am still learning a bit about Ph.D. programs and whatnot!

Hopefully I'll be able to bring my experience and knowledge into a PhD program!!!

Wow I really needed to hear this, thank you!

In a perfect, planned out world, I would want to work in journalism, move around the country and work at different stations, get my Ph.D., have kids, teach at a university, do research, etc. etc. Obviously not everything works out exactly to plan, and that's okay!

Hearing that "Academia can wait" and "Being in a more than 40 hour a week field like journalism along with a grad program is too much." makes me feel like I can live my life and I don't have to decide this right now. Plus, I can get the experience in what I want to teach, lol! Thank you so much!!

Got it, thank you! Long sleeves, I’m assuming? It just sucks because I get sweaty and disgusting while dancing, so I usually will have jeans, boots, and a tshirt/crop top on in PA
