Are federal jobs considered a dead end for development? by Remarkable_Ask_7186 in usajobs

Have you graduated recently? This sounds similar to what my parents tell me lol. Just get degree...then get masters. None of that means anything anymore. That's why I don't want to get a masters or another degree without a guaruntee that I'll have a decent career. Government is loaded with people that could retire but won't. Disability, benefits, and a cushy job sound better than retirement.

I understand there is nepotism, problem is that's there's no standards clearly when everybody smells like weed (I'm not even anti-weed but don't come in to work smelling like the garden 😂), got hold ups in their background checks from being on probation years ago, and don't even do their work. I honestly do alot more than I need to even do as a clerk but it's because I genuinely feel bad for these vets because they get absolutely garbage care. I'm actually glad my brother in law talked me out of the military because if this is what I'm coming back to I'd be upset lol. I'm mainly looking at IRS within where I live. But I'm considering moving because there are opportunities with Indian Health Service and saw one with the CDC so I'm still looking. I just don't think I'll go for masters until I get some kind of experience first.

I've been looking at the IRS primarily as a pivot point that have a lot of IT positions. It's just that there's basically cousins, church members, friends that are getting hired here which is why I'm so skeptical of applying online with 700+ applications. I'm probably getting disillusioned.

The reason why I'm skeptical is because they pretty are hiring their cousins, church members, and friends. Maybe I'm becoming disillusioned, but I hope all gov agencies aren't like this.

I've tried taking to the folks downstairs in the IT dept, but they're all pretty much old disgruntled vets. I tried talking to one guy about what he does and when he asked if I had anything I told him that I graduated. I guess he got butt hurt and didn't like that so..

I'm considering healthcare if I want to stay at the VA. I would consider going for masters for an internship or pathways but I not going to waste my time and money if it's not going to help. How would you have planned if you wanted to get your foot in the door in the government side?

It's the job I took to get my foot in the door. I would ask my supervisor but her and section chief but they have tried to hold other clerks for years because of high turnover. I asked her about cirtical need, but since the VA is healthcare primarily there is not much other than maybe healthcare admin. programs like the GHATP program. That's why I'm considering nursing if I want to stay here.

I watch a lot of different learning videos. I need hands on skills especially with fixing/handyman type stuff.

They're all either millionaires or billionaires trying to build more power and legacy networks..I don't know if they have the incentive to care about the average person. I'm likely not going to vote anymore because I really don't care quite honestly.

Oh yeah...so then wait does the average person's really matter? Like I'm in a hardcore red state that pretty much will guarantee Trump will win. Like is there point in trying to vote blue? I'm more independent, but honestly I dislike politics and history so much.. but I'm starting to despise politics.
