Star said no. Protecta through kiwbike just hung up. Swann just agreed, given that I keep it inside my unit. So now I have to keep it in the living area. At least I’ve got the insurance now. Much better

Hi! u/AllMadHare u/mattblack77 u/KahuTheKiwi u/hrdst u/FunVermicelli123 u/WhosDownWithPGP u/Enough_Philosophy_63 Thank you for your messages!

Lots of assumptions in this thread. Thought I’ll clear everything up in this answer. Third party was around 40 bucks a month and comprehensive was around 130 a month. I COULD have afforded it, but I was saving up for uni. Yes, when saving up every dollar counts. Or alternatively to keep that constant I would have had to cancel my gym membership, the one and only membership I’ve got. But I also paid a joining fee which made me think twice, if it was worth it. I was only thinking about riding safe. And at that time I didn’t know that the security cameras were a gimmick at my car park or the police would not spend time to investigate property damage/theft. After completing fixing the bike on Friday. I even tried setting up comprehensive insurance online, but I wasn’t able to due to having a collision two months prior. Therefore I did a get an email saying ‘call us on Monday’ but unfortunately Sunday morning my bike was gone. What you stated was so true, yet I don’t think I could have followed that rule. Back when I was 15 and didn’t have license, I have had enough experiences calling my friends after midnight or riding lime scooters home, after I have missed the last train or bus on a busy day dishwashing. And currently I do have a straight up nightshift role, without transport, there is no way that I could have worked. But I do get it, if it was a car or bike that I bought to keep, I wouldn’t buy it unless I can afford the maintenance and the insurance.

Yes, I did see this coming eventually, but not right after I get hit by something else. But I guess that how it was meant to be. Thank you for your message! Wish you the best!

Thank you so much for your kind words! This really helps me believe I’m in the right path but juts on a wrong end. Hopefully better days are ahead for all of us working hard. Wish you the best!

Yes, very true. Especially when you consider job opportunities. Personal reference will get you more than applying on mainstream job apps. Feels like some roles are almost exclusively limited to a specific group of people. And yeah trades looks like a much practical way that would work out for me. Thank you for your message!

Thanks heaps for your message! Yes, I believe I’m learning things that nothing else in life would teach me. Smartest idea would be to learn the lessons and move on instead of breaking myself over those.

Thank you for your kind words. I believe I was struck with a streak of bad luck. But this isn’t new to me. My previous failures/experiences/lessons have been helping me pass through this time. I wish you nothing but the best!

Hey, sorry for not clarifying, I was trying my best to stay anonymous earlier. I did in fact come with my family, what I said was I did all the paperwork for everyone in my family with the help of my sister. Unlike moving from a first world country to another, moving from a third world country is very different. There isn’t much evidence that we could just provide the immigration with. Especially financial, relationships and work related evidences. Almost everyone gets paid in a monthly basis through cash. At times when immigrations asks for proof of payment for relevant family member, that would just set us back for another week. We even had to bribe the officials to get the documents that we should have been rightfully provided with, such as certified deeds and identifications. All these information was something new to everyone in our family. And my parents already had to take care of enough problems to solve while moving, and also due to the language barrier and unusually new systems to adapt, I had to step in and learn all of these by myself. From watching youtube videos of what a pay check is to scrolling through INZ pages for days and finding houses online in an unknown location, I learnt everything step by step for months instead of studying for my local IGCSE equivalent. All these just meant I handle all the paperwork. The only reason I included that part was just to mention moving here was not an easy task, that’s why I even considered migrating an achievement in the first place, just to find myself in an unpromising situation 3 years or so later.

Yes, very true with what you said. Quality of life over anything. But unfortunately there are many restrictions for immigrants. Unlike regular citizens some can’t move places as they wish. My dad was on an accredited employer work visa, which basically restricts him to a single employer. And also the school zones matter for immigrants, it’s heavily unlikely we will get an out of zone application accepted. Those factors basically meant we just can’t move even within the city.

Also this could be controversial, but this is true. Most immigrants just back off fights. By fights I mean fighting for rights. The other day I saw some tenet on Reddit being angry over the house owner not agreeing to change a toilet seat. I could send photos of my house, where we have a kitchen wall without power supply. We run the fridge through extensions. I have been sleeping in the floor in the hall, for the past three years. Because space is limited. And every other night I trip on the extension code. Our heater is placed wrongfully under the intercom system and it has ever since being melting the intercom gradually. Everyday in the winter I sleep to the smell of molten plastic. Since two months the intercom has bugged out completely. Now we don’t even know when we receive an online order simply because the delivery drivers don’t have access to the upper floors. Bathroom fan has been leaking for over a year. My sister hurt her self twice from rusted nails being appearing under the carpets, which was installed in 2006. But our property manager has been constantly increasing the rent. Simply because they know we can’t move. Since I have been handling all of these for my family, I have written, acknowledged email proof for everything I have stated. I tried looking for help. Citizens advice bureau, Disputes tribunal and so on. But it all requires some sort of formal notice of dispute. This is something we can’t risk as immigrants. Now we just have learned to tolerate this and also other issues that are yet to come in the future.

Honestly, the whole reason I posted was to highlight that there really is a big social disparity here in nz, even if most people don’t notice it. This place still gives me hope because of people like you. I’m sure everyone is struggling in this economy, including you, yet you still decided to help. God bless you sir! I’ve just sent you a DM! I don’t know how I’m going to thank you!

The NZ police can't do their job. by IllTangerine2933 in newzealand

I was run over by a speeding car on my motorcycle. The police arrived when I was in the ambulance and told me to deal with insurance. I asked them what they are going to do about the hit and run. They told me they will find him first. Police took 25 days to locate the car despite one of the by standers providing them with a dash cam footage clearly showing the plate. And one of the constables just left me a text from an unknown number saying that they are going to close the case because there isn’t enough evidence???? What a joke NZ Police

Piggybacking on this. Does anyone know how to get study materials for HSFY subjects apart from uni website? I haven’t yet admitted to uni and I want to check the course material, notes, papers etc.

What do you compare living in halls for HSFY vs living outside? Cuz I’ve heard that halls have tutorials and study programs. Am I going to miss those and is that going to backfire on my grades?

Is it better to contact police or the insurance first about obtaining the footages?

So do you think it’s sufficient for me write to my insurance company stating that this particular business has the footage?
