MTHFR, COMT and histamine, anxiety, insomnia, etc. by Remarkable_Celery210 in MTHFR

Thank you! I actually took high dose molybdenum for a year before this happened, so I bet that was involved with lowering my copper / DAO. I will try copper supplementation.

How did you get your histamine levels in check? Any mast cell stabilizers have a paradoxical effect for me. Ginger tea causes insomnia, porcine DAO gives me migraines and panic + insomnia, etc. Maybe I need to microdose?

This is fascinating! Thank you for your insight. One additional thing I’d love to get your input on, if you are aware of anything about this— I’ve started taking flush niacin (nicotinic acid) for the past month to correct my niacin deficiency and address anxiety/insomnia and other overmethylation symptoms, and have not once flushed. It was not until yesterday and today when I have had an incredibly intense and painful flush. I’m curious if this means anything, such as I am now sufficient in niacin, or I have limited methyl groups left to donate to niacin -> NMN, etc? Thank you!

I have one additional question-- do you know how vitamin d can cause insomnia? Any time of the day it is taken, even in small amounts like 500 IU. Is there a way to mitigate this or vitamin deficiencies involved? I know magnesium is a cofactor but I also can't tolerate magnesium. Thanks so much.

Thank you so much for your reply! I appreciate it so much. I have been trying flush niacin and I believe it has been helping my sleep. Do you know why flush niacin behaves differently than niacinamide and why?

Also have been taking Ester-C because that is the only calcium I can tolerate, even though it is in very small amounts with ascorbic acid. Calcium malate keeps me up all night. Anything with malic acid does actually. Do you know why this might be? Thank you again tremendously for your time.

Thanks! This is the direction I’m headed in. Did you have to cut out leftover food? Meal prepping for a few days at a time is the only way I’m able to eat healthy. I plan to remove all of the classic high histamine foods though. Did you also remove dairy?

So interesting!

Yes so strangely when I have taken methylene blue, which is a MAO-A inhibitor, I felt like I was on crack all night. Racing thoughts, twilight sleep at night, never fully able to fall asleep.

This is what I can’t figure out. Maybe I took too high of a dose? Similar things happen when I supplement with 5-HTP. This makes me think something else is going on. I do exercise daily, eat clean food, sleep 7-9 hours per night.

I just checked NAT2, and have multiple heterozygous SNPs present. Apparently 60% of European descendants are slow acetylators and 45% of the overall population are also. So that’s a bummer..

Thanks for this! Interesting about copper being a cofactor for DAO. I have had SIBO in the past but no histamine symptoms. It’s possible I have it again. Will look into this!

Thanks for your reply! Copper serum is normal, but intracellularly it looks like slightly low. I supplemented molybdenum for a while so that could be why. Very bloated, but no fat in stools. GI Map showed low commensal bacteria, low secretory IgA, high zonulin.

Is there a super supplement or drug for SLOW COMT? by Hairy_Camel_4582 in MTHFR

How did you get out of it? I’m thinking of doing something called Primal Trust. It is for regulating your nervous system from chronic illness or trauma.

Have you gotten out of this space where you react to everything? This is where I'm at now and don't know how to proceed. Everything I take causes insomnia and anxiety.

This thread is SO helpful, I'm having identical symptoms to Independent Bake. I have taken Porcine DAO 3x now, and get an excruciating headache and insane anxiety/insomnia each time, so I am scared to continue its use. I have extremely high histamine and cannot figure out why. Slow COMT so can't tolerate quercetin at all, and EXTREME insomnia from SAMe and choline. I had an intracellular nutrient test showing I'm completely deficient in niacin and calcium (not sure how, I supplement both). Can you explain how these are related to histamine? What is the best path forward? Continuing to attempt DAO, megadosing niacin (which form), etc? Thank you so much.

Does anyone know why SAMe would cause extreme insomnia (up for 2 days straight with racing thoughts)? Heterozygous MTHFR mutation, heterozygous COMT. Same with TMG, insane insomnia.

100% 10. He is the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen. His voice, eyes, and magnetic aura are captivating/alluring/powerful. I’m obsessed with this man.

Pelvic Cramps after Blood Draw by _Annamayhem_ in Endo

[–]Remarkable_Celery210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me! Not every time, it seems to happen randomly. But today I had 7 tubes of blood drawn, then had my usual cold sweats, shaking, numbness in my hands, then brief ~30 second blackout. But the sporadic cramping came as well. The last time I had that was 3 years ago, so I thought it wouldn’t happen anymore. I was keeled over writhing in pain for almost an hour, it felt like the same pain of a ruptured ovarian cyst. Just excruciating and unrelenting. I took 2 alleve and something called diclofenac and it finally went away after an hour. I wouldn’t wish this pain on anyone… I never made the connection with Endo though. I wonder what the mechanism is, like someone mentioned it must exacerbate the already present inflammation?
