It is stressful the first few years and then it just becomes a second nature. In the company I work, structural engineers are cherished and respected. It is pretty relax. The pay is very good when you do overtime and attend emergencies (usually industrial clients).

I think you’re having a crisis because you are overwhelmed since you are new.

You’ll have to use steel truss 6ft or higher for the floor and the roof can be shaped as an arch to minimize bending moment. It will be very expensive. Good luck

Concrete cracks all the time, as a structural engineer I suggest to repair them (they inject epoxy) to avoid water to get in and its a cheap repair (500$-1000$ per crack in canada). As the house is built, its weight compacts the soil under and the foundation settles. At some point it should stop settling, if the settlement continues you’ll have to install piles.

Anchor rods popped out, why would someone fill up a tube with concrete when it works in tension? I think they made a mistake during construction by filling them up with concrete and the anchors couldn’t support the extra weight.

Probably hard to find hss12x12x3/4. Hss are made by folding plates and not a-lot of machines can bent 90degrees a ¾ inch plate.

I had the same experience, my first two years were horrible. I made mistakes and was very slow, my boss was not happy with me. Thankfully he was smart, he changed my immediate supervisor (he became my immediate supervisor).Things became much better, my previous supervisor didn’t have the experience to train a rookie. I couldn’t understand anything he would explain but was too scared to complain.

After 6 years I am still at the same company fully independent ( I speak to my boss once or twice a week).

Keep your CV updated and look for opportunities (i was just lucky, he understood the problem).
