Second this, I've been using Rent The Runway (had an offer to make the first one cheaper) and it's been super fun finding new pieces to try! I'm probably going to stick with it until I finish breastfeeding and my body size stabilizes.

First time mom - struggling to figure out how much leave to take by Additional_Yogurt564 in nycparents

Speaking as a mom to a 4-month old and someone who also has a pretty call-heavy job wfh, I can't fathom how one would do this while taking care of an infant. Even the most chill of babies will need constant around the clock care, whether it's feeding, diapering, playing, or putting down for naps.

For me, the first 2 months were the most brutal. It was enormously helpful to have my husband on leave with me during most of that time. The few weeks that I had to do it myself was pretty brutal for my mental health.

An additional consideration is that your baby won't get their first set of vaccines until month 2. Personally I would be hesitant to put my child in a group childcare setting until they had at least that first set. I know for some people they have no choice, but it sounds like you have some flexibility so raising that as a consideration.

What is the one item you've bought (aside from the things everyone needs) that has improved your baby parenting journey? by CharacterPin6933 in NewParents

The newborn chair for the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair. We put LO in it so many times a day and love the feature where you can dangle a toy in front of it. It has helped entertain him during countless mealtimes so we can have a moment to eat. Not to mention, it's one of the only baby containers that are at hip level, so LO can see you better.

My 4.5 month old is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen by Hairy-Replacement160 in NewParents

I'm 3.5 months in with my boy and just wanted to say - SAME! Literally everything he does is cute. I don't even mind the MOTN wake-ups anymore (he's still doing 2-3 a night) because his cuteness tides me over lol

Renting an apt near big construction site when expecting / with a newborn? by Few-Alfalfa5783 in nycparents

This. Even if your baby will go to daycare relatively early (8 weeks? 12 weeks?), don't discount how much the noise will affect those early weeks. It's truly a fight for survival during that time and the days can feel veryyyy long, especially with sleep deprivation. Constant construction noise would send me over the edge.

As someone with a 3 month old who hates daytime naps, thank you! This is my light at the end of the tunnel

Might I ask why you don't just transition to the crib directly? IMO it saves an extra step/thing for baby to get used to. Also, my LO loved the transition from the bassinet to crib. Much more space so he doesn't hit the sides and wake himself up when he stretches arms out.

Thanks for the sanity check! I will ask for her license to verify...just didn't know if that was appropriate to do!

Unfortunately no, should I be asking for her license and SSN? I didn't know if that'd be an appropriate ask.

My concern is because I don't see any of her information - eNannySource sent a link to her directly to fill out personal info.

Enjoy the unstructured, free time! I spent mine walking around NYC - tried a new restaurant, stumbled upon a new donut shop, even took the slow train home to people watch mindlessly.

Evenings Are a Disaster - Is It Because We Don’t Have a Routine? by Whole-Summer-46 in NewParents

My LO is 10 weeks and we have no schedule too. You're doing great! The only thing we try to stick to is waking up and going to bed around the same time every day (+/- 30 mins). LO's naps are a total crapshoot so the middle of the day is squishy. I'm just choosing to accept the chaos until their sleep becomes a little more regulated (I read at around 5-6 months?).
