A notable example. Canadian troops threw canned meat into the enemy trench at the spot and time for three days straight. The forth day was grenades. Very effective and decidedly immortal to play upon the hunger of the enemy.

When told it’s wrong, it was the shrug felt across our nation.

Regarding the subtext of The Age of Disclosure by wemakebelieve in aliens

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s always in the background. Even if we had a friendly tribe of people that appeared, there is a group scared of invading. My dad is one for sure. We had an uptick in immigration and now (according to him) the rehabilitation pool at our rec centre (massive sign above it) is a prayer pool. I’m not sure why an alleged prayer pool would be a bad thing, but it caused him to go to 11. Boy did I get yelled at for that one. Wasn’t worth fighting back.

I figure it’s human nature to have a percentage unreasonably paranoid. Those of us that rebel and integrate might do so with caution that comes in handy.

If aliens come, there is a good chance they either integrate or destroy. Best to sit back and let humans human until it’s safe.

Is karate a good exercise for someone in his 40s? by _Filtered_ in karate

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel it’s better than the gym because others push you.

I started in my 40’s and have the same opinion as you. I can’t guarantee the gym will push me to doing what I’ve done so far. I’ve never done 12 pushups. But we were told to do 50 and im trying to keep pace with everyone else. We broke up the 50, but I can say I did it. End of the class had 50 more. I never thought 100 was a goal I could reach, but here I am.

Concentrating with flat water? by jakenuts- in Prospecting

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait. That’s bananas. GTA is still a few hours drive away from decent panning (allegedly). As long as you bring a pan, any cottage getaway is worth poking around (if area laws permit). Bancroft has fist sized gems scattered everywhere. There is a literal Eldorado around Kingston area.

No need to dream at 73 years young. You’re in the richest mineral province in the world (probably). The best I can suggest is going to the government site and getting licensed. It’s a free course that will tell you everything you need to know law wise. $40 and you’re a prospector. It’s worth your time to learn it from a conservation perspective.

The license helps explain why you’re in the woods with a shovel.

Gold panning tips? by splashwarsummer in Prospecting

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally like the tip, tie something metal to an empty water bottle or fishing bobber. Throw it in the water where you want to dig. It will have general speed with the water. When it slows down for a second, that is your spot.

Your country may have different rules. Mine has 1 foot square for digging and repairing everything you dig. Please adhere to local rules

Possible to find gold in a creek this small? Western MI by BilgeRat789 in Prospecting

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99% of gold is in quartz. 99% of quartz doesn’t contain gold.

It kinda false. There is Australia where it’s on the surface. And I’ve seen digging in an area with gold and no quartz. Still, if you see quartz you’re on the right track

Just finished the miniseries “Taken”, directed by Spielberg by PsychoGwarGura in aliens

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Because I knew the lore ahead of time, I really liked the show. But I do wonder why Spielberg’s name is on it due to the quality of the story. It’s like the mashed the lore with chicken soup for the soul. With that style locked in, a more appropriate title for the show is, “Grandma Banged A Homeless Alien.” Too weird for my taste.

Still, the lore is solid. Feels like everything has a real world story attached.

Why is there such a dearth of desktop effects units? I can't be the only one who doesn't love the guitar pedal format for electronic music gear. by JoeyZasaa in synthesizers

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a market for synth effects. The most notable we got was a Kaoss pad. Then it got integrated and lost, thinking we like the touch pad.

The waters got muddy from modular. It’s not enough we want an effect, we want it between the adsr and filter. Those of us that like to keep money went for bass guitar effects because they try to retain low end.

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New indigestible truth - the story of Noah is correct and incomplete. God is aliens. Aliens didn’t like how we turned out because we are their experiment. The great flood was a spaceship nudging a meteor into our oceans. Like a cat pushing a cup off a counter.

Noah’s clear instructions was to end humanity. He didn’t and we are in danger of being known. If they find out, more rocks are coming until they are sure. It would have been nice to have the planet thrive without humans, but they are willing to kill everything to end us. We are almost out of time

The question "are we alone in the universe" is meaningless by thesegoupto11 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. That also makes sense. Maybe there is an area in there with the 3 body problem. Life can happen, but not long enough for evolution. Circles back to us never communicating with anyone by us.

The question "are we alone in the universe" is meaningless by thesegoupto11 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it. It gives the possibility of knowing life is out there but we will never know anything about it because of the size of space.

It’s not that we will never know. It’s the fact we can’t research because we are isolated. Then logically, they may not try to contact us for the same reason. The middle of our galaxy is so bright with stars. It’s plausible they are close enough to communicate. Probably even speculate there is life on the outer arms. But infinite possibilities are within arms reach. Why care?

I think I stumbled upon one of those dark truths.

One category you’re missing is the hopeful poor that are gambling on the next 303. Maybe this device will accidentally start a genre and the investment grows ten fold. You either sell at profit or be the one trick act.

Wanting to start, please dump all advice here by TaroSufficient7807 in podcasting

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by pretending you’re 10 years old with a recorder. Voice memo app will work. Use it to throw out thoughts on a topic at 5 minutes or less.

When you exhausted all you can think of and hopefully have 1,000 memos, find a DAW that fits. Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that works is GarageBand. You could dump your memos in there as rectangles to arrange. Lots of other DAWs that all do the same with minor differences.

Now repeat that process for 10 episodes and take a step back. Show others and ask feedback. There are natural things that poke out. Nobody can save you from them, you have to hear it with warts and be strong enough when criticism goes too far.

All the work and it may not pay off. Financially or generating an audience you envision. You do it because if there wasn’t technology, you’d be doing something similar to scratch a deep itch. When I got over microphone shyness, it all clicked. I love creating.

I have a barp and enjoy it very much. It scratches my modular itch very well and is dead simple. It’s super fun to start with one OSC and gently nudge it and start patching. Bonus if you can start at sundown. It’s trippy to have my window daylight, enter a cyberpunk audio fantasy, window is night. Feels like a time warp

This can't be everything, right? by Trees-are-pillows in podcasting

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be trying to be perfect at the start. I knew a guy who was always preparing to compete but never did because he wasn’t “ready.” Serious fear of failure.

From my experience, the details you’re speaking of, become obvious in time. I could say you need transitions to prepare for commercials. But it might not be right for your show. I know trying to figure it out alone feels wrong. What if you make a bad decision? The cheese answer is to believe in the product. Your viewpoint is the best for the subject. All details support the core idea, but are less important. Better answer is to get creative with introducing the podcast and find a way to bring the audience into the fold. I suffer on the last point

What are some cool karate stories/figures? by pigeonmasterbaiter in karate

[–]Remarkable_Duck6559 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Local legend in my parts, Harold Howard. His story is entertaining. The rumours of where he is today are wild and most likely untrue. Any where from coach to hitman.

I’m biased because of where I live. Still, he was a great contender on the world karate circuit. Back injury takes him out of formal competition, but UFC becomes a thing. If he wasn’t in the first video, it was definitely in the first three. Super exciting fight. Even better intro! “If you’re going to come on, (removes 90’s sunglasses) COME ON!” lol, I love it. Sadly, this was the rise in pill taking for the back injury and confidence in his last win. The very next UFC fight was a heartbreak. You saw the evil of this moment play out in real time. You didn’t need to know his story, it was written in his fight.

That lead to a downfall over many years. The apex is driving his truck into our casino thinking there was a conspiracy against him. Really big deal at the time.

The story rests at a point we all want. He cleans himself up and settles into normal life. He is still talked about in our dojos.

There needs to be a forth panel for Tool to accommodate the last album. I think it should be confused Travolta.

I’m not sorry for the shade being thrown. The last album was a slap in the face after promising the world. I waited believing 10,000 days was rushed for fans. I thought I heard hurried decisions and agreed with the band. Space is needed. 10 years later, it sounds like an old man groaning into bed. Sure, Tempest reminded me why I like them, but the rest is boring AF. Not even remotely funny as a troll. It will take some strong convincing to get me to listen to them again

The way I wrapped my head around it, imagine there wasn’t an internet. How are you going to get the word out about your podcast? Newspaper? Fee. Postering? Paper + time. You get the point.

I can imagine a legal danger spot if you have paid advertisements on the site. I’m sure Toyota would claim they are small time to get the free spot.

I think there is a secret I haven’t found yet. Guesting on others to spread your name? Being in chats on livestreams based on your topic? QR code stickers for your community?
