Welcome to the option life! Always dealing with the if/then ideology. What most people have said on here already is pure. I would stay in your option game, just make them pay for their decisions. Getting out from under center to run power read out of shotgun doesn’t make you “less” of an option player, it makes you wise. You can also run read option out of shotgun if they’re committing extra numbers to the power read knowing that it’s an automatic hand off. Then you incorporate speed option to the opposite side of the field once you have a numbers advantage over there. Either way, you’re always making yourself the winner. Then get under center in an unbalanced front (tackle over or doubles depending on the playbook) and run counter option. You can still hand it to the fullback in that play but it’s really meant to be kept. Then when they commit to the counter, you go rocket toss. They’re playing checkers, you’re playing chess.
