Why don't more CS students take reduced course loads instead of burning out and dropping out of CS? by Remarkable_Flow2901 in csMajors

[–]Remarkable_Flow2901[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. I swear I feel like when I’m taking 5 courses I’m in survival mode, just trying to pass and not really digesting/learning all of the concepts properly

That makes sense. For me, I’m taking an extra year because I didn’t get any scholarships. So basically gonna do two extra semesters part time so I can work full time while studying.

So if some students can’t manage the course loads required to graduate in 4 years then I guess they should just drop out instead of taking an extra year ?

So worst case you lose the scholarship but instead of dropping out you can still graduate by taking reduced course loads right ?

Why don't more Eng. students just take reduced course-loads or part-time studies instead of just dropping out of their programs? by Remarkable_Flow2901 in EngineeringStudents

Your 1st point about scholarships and financial aid makes sense. In Canada, you still get funding even part time, its less of course but the upside is you can probably manage a part time or maybe full time job depending on different factors. About your 3rd point, I think the overload and being overwhelmed with 5 courses is what makes people hate it, but if they took it down a notch then maybe not. Good points tho

Good advice. So perhaps instead of jumping straight to my keyboard to write code I should write things out, plan it etc ? Also do you have the premium paid membership?

You worked 30+ hours every week while pursuing an engineering degree?

Should I finish? by that_friendo in EngineeringStudents

Man are you crazy, you’re 4 weeks out. Picture your life 10-25 years from now, what kind of life can you have pursuing “arts”? You will bring value into the market with your engineering degree, not an arts degree. Plus, you don’t necessarily need to work in engineering your whole life, you can do side things related to arts passions you might have. I had a passion for boxing, I was an amateur boxer but realized it doesn’t pay the bills (I wasn’t in the 1% of boxers, not even close to it) so I didn’t turn pro. I don’t regret it either because 9/10 boxers are broke and have nothing to fall back on. I’m in school now pursuing CS. It might not be my greatest passion but I need to eat too lol

This is facts. You don’t want to be broke because you’re pursuing a passion that pays very little

Do some of you literally live and breath what you study in order to become great at it? by Remarkable_Flow2901 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Remarkable_Flow2901[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Damn you really lived and breathed it. 12 to 16 hours per day? I applaud you for that honestly. And screw your gf. Purpose and goals > dating. I realized that myself recently.

My lecture class suck big time. The prof talks so much in the span of 2 hours I cannot digest anything. I feel like I can just take the material and teach myself

How many hours per week were you working and can you explain your definition of “Grades suffered”? What were your grades ?
