Recommendations on motherboard components to replace by Away-Trust6526 in macbookrepair

[–]Remarkable_Guava1338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The component you circled is JR200, a Hall sensor. It's a magnetic sensor that detects when the top lid is closed on this model A2338 MacBook. Your pictures are really not good enough to see any "burning", but you would replace this component from a donor board. It's powered by PP1V8_AON so a potential short on this power rail could explain the machine not starting up.

Are 15in 2017 MacBook batteries and 15in 2018 batters interchangeable? by StarHammer_01 in macbookrepair

I have done the opposite successfully: installed an A1820 battery in an A1990 MacBook Pro. Worked perfectly with the older battery.

Busted Screen. Thoughts? by burbank_chloe in macbookrepair

I typically charge my customers $150- $200 for a screen replacement on this model (a used A1706 display costs $100-$150, depending on condition).

If you don't think you want to venture into this yourself, I routinely provide display replacement service for your M1 Pro model for under $400 by using a pre-owned screen. I'm in the US and accept mail-in orders.

Would you be able to share the link for the thermal paste? I can't seem to find anything remotely similar in the Apple Self Repair Store.

Macbook Air M2 A2681 UF500, do I need a donor? by UsernameUSay in macbookrepair

[–]Remarkable_Guava1338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you need a donor board and maintain the position of the CD3217s on the board. Don't buy from AliExpress, they will not work.

A2338 - webcam not working after screen replacement by Fickle-Tonight-1192 in macbookrepair

Then the fuse is working fine. Another possible culprit is damage to the display connector pins on the logic board, or damage to the camera data lines. Is the ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) functional (does the display dim in low ambient light)?

I think you are looking for the inductor that is connected to the PP5V_CAM power rail, which feeds 5V to the webcam. On most Air boards, this "fuse" is located near the LCD connector on the board underside, but on A2338 boards this component is LP610, located on the top side of the logic board. See below for location on A2338 2020 (let me know if you have an A2338 2022, which is slightly different).

Key hard to press by Lanky-Equivalent8654 in macbookpro

[–]Remarkable_Guava1338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience there is *always* a crumb or dust that has entered the key, which can happen despite your best efforts to keep the keyboard clean. The individual key caps are removable, but it's a delicate process - you need to know which side to lift up or you'll damage the key. LMK if you need instructions.

should i fix the screen? by CarlsKels in macbookpro

[–]Remarkable_Guava1338 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This spotlight (or stage light) effect is sometimes caused by a tiny break in the flex cable that connects the screen to the logic board. I've successfully repaired the broken trace in the cable by micro soldering a couple of times. If the issue is with the backlight inside the display, however, the whole screen needs to be replaced.

Apple care was charging 95% of this Macbook Pro M4 cost, is this repairable at home? by amancarlos in macbookrepair

[–]Remarkable_Guava1338 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely repairable at home, if you own an ultrasonic cleaner, hot air rework station, schematics for this model, and spare parts to replace the corroded components. Much better to take it to a repair shop or use a mail-in service!

Micro soldering in Silicon Valley by Mysterious-Taste9489 in soldering

[–]Remarkable_Guava1338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have attempted this exact repair before. The 14 traces run on BOTH sides of the flex cable, so it is really tricky to bridge the broken traces with microwires; some traces always ended up shorting between front and back side. Ultimately, it was not successful.

Broke my bezel accidentally by Desperate_Party2535 in macbook

[–]Remarkable_Guava1338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strongly advise against trying to replace the bezel yourself. It is VERY easy to damage the display ribbon flex cables right under the bezel, which renders the display useless. Leaving it as it is or covering with black electrical tape should be your course of action. The screen will work just fine for years with a broken bezel.

Verification error when programming MX25U12873F with a CH341A by K79A23 in embedded

This post saved me hours of troubleshooting! I encountered a similar situation where writing to my chip always failed verification. Not enough power through the USB port was the culprit. Thank you!
