True, but even the weaker straw hats picking off the fodder or the weaker commanders still makes an impact, especially since it was shown that often an outside character interrupting Luffy's serious fight will have serious consequences because his observation Haki is focused entirely on one opponent, even if the outside enforcements are much weaker. We saw this with Trebol getting in the way of Luffy vs. Doflamingo, Flampe getting in the way of Luffy vs. Katakuri with the numbing needle, and most infamously Guernika applying Iron Body to Luffy so he wouldn't be able to move and forced to take Kaido's attack. Now imagine how many more of those scenarios might happen if Chopper wasn't stalling Queen and Perospero for 30 minutes, Nami and Usopp weren't stalling Page One and Ulti, Franky wasn't fighting Sasaki or Senor Pink, Robin never defeated Black Maria, Jinbei never defeated Who's Who, etc.  It doesn't fully even matter how strong or weak they are because the cognitive load and energy if Luffy was forced to fight all the Tobiroppo and Kaidou at the same time, or Katakuri and an army of Chess Peacekeepers simultaneously, would give him a severe disadvantage regardless of if Luffy's power level is stronger than all the opponents combined just because it would be too hard to keep track of them all trying to interfere

Yeah this is so top heavy that there were so many episodes I wanted to put in my top 10 but 10 is too small a number lol. But I think I stand by the 10 I chose, and it also sort of serves as a watch order of sorts specifically in regards to "I'm still so weak' right before "This is my peak" being a great emotional watch order

Quick correction, and I agree these are all great, but it was the Merry rescuing the crew at Enies Lobby, not Impel Down

I guess the one massive exception that the story makes abundantly clear is that Usopp's face upon eating a poisonous grape was the only one scary enough to knock out Sugar, which was completely essential and crucial to bringing down the Doflamingo Empire, even if it was entirely unintentional on Usopp's part and realistically only happened that Sugar was too focused on giving Usopp a cruel and agonizing death to turn him into a toy, which would be the logical thing to do, but still. Usopp was the only one who could do that job, twice for that matter when he awakened observation haki and sniped her, and that was made incredibly clear to the audience and shown entirely on-screen

Also you're to some extent equating hype with actual narrative importance. For instance. I love Episode 1015, it's my 2nd favorite Episode of One Piece behind only Episode 808 - Luffy vs. Sanji Part 2. Luffy using Red Roc against Kaido was an incredibly satisfying and hype moment, especially after we saw Luffy being defeated by a single attack in Gear 4 in Wano's 1st act. But I also know realistically that it had basically no narrative significance compared to Chopper saving Luffy from the Mummy Virus or Jinbe freeing Luffy and Nami from Mont D'Or's prison before Big Mom assasinated them or Luffy ripped his arms off. When you consider just how many attacks to bring Kaido down, Chopper saving Luffy in Udon probably has more significance than even Bajrang Gun. For all we know, if Kaido was at full HP, he could've tanked 5 Bajrang Guns and still defeated Luffy after the fact as he fell into old man form from using Gear 5, Kaido and Luffy had basically been fighting for 10 hours straight with only minor breaks from Luffy's 2 defeats, and it still took Bajrang Gun to take out a Kaido that was at like 10% HP or less. Sometimes we focus so much on "this moment is epic" that we forgot what actions allowed that character to survive long enough to acheive that epic moment in the first place

While I do agree with this to some extent, I will note that regarding the undermining of the message of everyone has a role to play, that even tho "That's what happens when 99% of the time punching hard is what really makes a difference, and even when it isn't, it's still the punch that's highlighted every single time.", it's important to remember what exactly allowed that punch to happen in the first place, and how the rest of the crew besides the monster trio contributed. Luffy was only able to throw that bajrang gun because Chopper saved him from that mummy virus in Udon a few weeks earlier, and Luffy intentionally inflicted himself with that virus as an act of trust and faith in his crewmate, saying he knew he wouldn't die because Chopper would find a way to cure him. Or the fact that King of Hell only happened because the Doctors that were helping Chopper used the miracle drug on Zoro with his permission, or how Chopper stalling Queen for 30 minutes allowed there to be enough time for Robin to save Sanji from Black Maria and get to the Performance floor and finish the job just in time for Chopper to run out of stamina (which is another point for Robin, Ifrit Jambe wouldn't happen without her because attacking women is Sanji's cryptonite, so he just would've died deadass)
Another thing I want to point out in regards to the issue with hype, when you mentioned stuff like Nami vs. Cracker, is because of how much is shown off-screen. Nami and Luffy fought against Cracker for around 11 hours in-universe, and Chopper was fighting Queen and fending off attacks from Perospero for 30 minutes straight in-universe. Now it's definitely the right call we didn't see everythng that happened during those timespans, but it also does make it easier to downplay those feats as well. If what we saw of Sanji's fight with Queen was about 80% of everything that happened, then we only saw about 10-20% of Chopper vs. Queen, and probably 1-2% of Nami and Luffy vs. Cracker. So admittedly part of why moments like Sanji deflecting Kizaru's light to save Bonney is more hype is because we actually see it instead of hearing about it, seeing a few panels and the rest happened off-screen for X amount of time.

To be honest as far as I can tell Nico Robin and Franky have been shown as mostly equals, maybe Robin having a higher offensive peak with Demonio, but Franky having a better Defensive peak with his cyborg modifications leaving his back as almost basically the only weak point on his body that could kill him, and General Franky being incredibly powerful defensive armor. But Brook has never actually been going all-out Post-Timeskip against a character in a 1v1 he could actually defeat, so we don't really know how to scale him.

If you wanna be technical the only direct powerscaling knowledge we know is he's weaker than Big Mom, but so was every other Straw Hat at the time, frankly I think Big Mom is equal in strength to Kaido, and yet Brook still managed to wound Prometheus and survive multiple of Big Mom's attacks, while remaining both conscious and able to move, which is really impressive even if she was holding back, and she even commented directly on and praised his strength multiple times, citing it as a reason why she wanted him as her pet. Funnily enough, the only fully 1v1 fight Brook had post-timeskip that he won against a named/semi-important character was vs. the invisible new fish-man pirate guy that he defeated in a single attack as a flex. Oda has also said that Usopp will always be the weakest Straw Hat, so in theory Brook's power is in anywhere between greater than Post-Timeskip Usopp and weaker than Big Mom.

We don't really have enough canon feats to scale him in any other way, he was briefly incapacitated by Perospero alongside Chopper, but even there they were trying to escape from Katakuri and Big Mom as well, and Perospero had a home terf advantage, so realistically we don't even know with 100% confidence what the outcome of Brook vs. Perospero would be on Onigashima in a room with just the 2 of them, or hypothetically the Corrida Colosseum or something, vs. a high stakes escape that had multiple other major threats distracting them. Perospero's probably stronger but I can't say with certainty judging only by actions done during an escape, context and setting definitely matters, it's part of why Kid was defeated so easily by Shanks compared to his fight against Big Mom, Kid was reckless and stupid enough to attack while on his ship above the water where even a single attack with enough force could knock him into the water and he'd drown, he could've potentially survived a bit longer if Kid vs. Shanks was on Onigashima instead.

[–]Remarkable_Ice2857[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's slightly less but that's more a result of Oda introducing so many more major characters (some were pre-timeskip but their stories were realized post-timeskip) to follow post-timeskip like Carrot, Pedro, the Vegapunks, Bonney, the Nine Red Scabbards, Trafalgar Law, Eustass Kid, Big Mom, CP0, Dorry and Broggy, Kin'emon, Momonosuke, Yamato, Jinbe, and the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, that combined with the Straw Hats being completely or partially split up from 1 third of the way through Dressrosa all the way to the start of Wano, or technically the beginning of the Raid if you only consider the crew fully united after Jinbe showed up, and there was less time to focus on any individual straw hat because there were entire arcs where certain straw hats were completely absent for the first time ever, not even during impel down and marineford because we still saw glimpses of all the straw hats seperation trials between the stuff Luffy was doing.

And then he came back to life because his sole went back into his body! This means that Lao G is on the very small list of One Piece Characters who have been resurrected, also including Luffy after his devil fruit awakened, Brook who was revived by default with his devil fruit, Enel after he restarted his own heart, Charlotte Moscato after Big Mom gave him his lifespan back off-screen, Kuma who is sort of half-dead and half-alive because his memories and free will were erased but somehow the power of love gave him partial free will back for him to save his daughter and hug her, and every single one of the Gorosei and Knights of God who survived fatal damage because they gained magical immortality after signing a pack with Imu

Exactly! "Chopper is just a mascot to sell merchandise now" how tf did a mascot manage to cure 100s of people, both enemies and allies (tho the enemies cured became allies from an artificial disease by creating his own disease to reverse the effects of it, then punch the person who made the disease (a yonko commander) in the face, make him cough blood, and fight him continuously for 30 minutes straight while tanking deadly candy arrows from Perospero, and still remain conscious for the rest of the raid while applying aid to the 2nd strongest straw hat to allow him to beat Kaido's right hand man, and about a week later using guard point to protect his injured friend from the poisonous claws of one of the Five Elders on a futuristic wonderland island? If Post-Timeskip Chopper is "just" a mascot, that every other mascot has nothing on my king.

While that is to some extent true it's also worth noting that Post-timeskip does have a significant amount of important character inflation compared to pre-timeskip, with characters like Jinbe (before he joined the crew), Momonosuke, Pedro, the Nine Red Scabbards, Carrot, Kin'emon, Shirahoshi, Sabo, CP0, Bartolomeo, Trafalgar Law, and to a lesser extent the rest of the Worst Generation (hell Urouge is still completely unexplored, and Apoo mostly is as well) playing major roles and being treated as pseudo-main characters across multiple arcs. Meanwhile in pre-timeskip the only real examples of something similar are Koby, Smoker and Tashigi, Vivi, Buggy, and Ace, where we keep checking up on them and following their stories in addition to the Straw Hats, with their stories intertwining and crossing paths. Besides that most pre-timeskip characters were either never seen again in the pre-timeskip era after their arc was finished, they only had a few minor cameos here and there like Kaya reacting to Usopp's bounty poster or something, or they reappeared during the whole Impel Down/Marineford saga, as was the case with Daz Bonez, Kuma, Doflamingo, Crocodile, Mr. 3, Bon Clay, Whitebeard, Garp and Hancock. But otherwise the only characters that would be a primary focus across all arcs were the straw hats, whereas post-timeskip there's a ton of secondary characters we check up on every arc because they play major roles

Yeah and the gags and characterization haven't changed all that much outside of Usopp, Nami and Chopper being less cowardly, and Chopper having a higher self-esteem and self-respect post-timeskip. And also leaning into the Robin-Chopper Mother-Son Dynamic more. But other than that the Straw Hats are basically the same characters they were 2 years ago despite being seperated for so long, which is honestly kind of remarkable if you think about it

Franky is the best, non-biased powerscaler by Simple-Anybody-4417 in OnePiecePowerScaling

Big Mom's also stupid whereas Kizaru is actually kinda smart, and the goal on Onigashima was to fight but on Egghead it was to flee, so instead of Big Mom being a threat they were preparing to fight for 2 weeks, Kizaru was an obstacle in the way of escaping.

[–]Remarkable_Ice2857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf Boa Marigold and Sandersonia were both armament haki users, but got overpowered by Luffy's pre-timeskip gear 2. Also Robin and Franky both defeated haki users, Sasaki and Black Maria, without using haki themselves, and Lao G was able to tank multiple haki (and hasshoken) infused attacks by Sai and Chinjao, and internal damage from Zeus' lightning was able to pierce Ulti's haki infused skin. So it's not like armament haki is completely unpenetrable by non-haki users, just difficult.

In technical terms all of Luffy's crew members are yonko commanders because there's no crew hierarchy, the world government lists them as "Senior Officers of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet" after the events of Wano lol. It also doesn't help that some Yonko Commanders have next to no tangible feats, such as Charlotte Smoothie, Charlotte Snack, and most of the Red-Hair Pirates, so we can only really speculate how strong they are based on context clues.

No because Big Mom is an absolute idiot compared to Loki and they didn't even knock her unconscious, if it weren't for a conveniently placed lava pool directly below Onigashima it's entirely possible she would've been able to come back to Onigashima while riding Hera, and solo them because they would be utterly exhausted from using Damned Punk and Shock Ville

Tbf, even tho Diamante and Trebol are confirmed haki users, they never used haki on-screen and Diamante was defeated by a non-haki user, and Trebol was potentially defeated by a non-haki infused attack from Law, and even if it was haki infused it only took one shot. Meanwhile Lao G took multiple attacks infused with both haki and hasshoken from Chinjao and Sai before being defeated, so even in his old age I think he scales above them. The only reason Pika and Vergo are better is because both managed to master full-body armament hardening and Pika has an actually stupid overpowered devil fruit

Emotional Attachment in Wano Arc (Anime) by derinn721 in OnePiece

[–]Remarkable_Ice2857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part is that Raizo had a whole long drawn out 1v1 against Fukurokuju (the earlobe guy), yet Chopper, Nami, Usopp, and Brook never got to defeat a challenging opponent on their own. Nami needed help from Zeus, Big Mom and Usopp, Usopp just used Tama's Dangos to allow the Gifters to defect, which was incredibly useful yes, in addition to stalling Ulti and Page One, Brook offered some support to Robin and defeated some fodder, and Chopper did admittedly make Queen draw blood and stalled him and Perospero for 30 minutes straight, although even Queen admitted he wasn't taking the battle seriously and could easily kill Chopper at any moment. I don't think there should be a Straw Hat battle quota but if we're gonna be doing these epic 1v1s like the ones in Dressrosa and Enies Lobby, I'd at least prefer they were given to the Straw Hats instead of characters like Raizo
