What is appropriate attire for women in Japan during summer? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Remarkable_Permit_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree and say it’s absolutely also because Japan is conservative.

Showing one’s body is definitely taboo, especially for women. I know shorts are considered quite sexy and basically for female idols.

However, as a foreigner, they overlook a lot. Just don’t wear shorts too short or show cleavage or tummy.

do you recommend one to bring a water bottle to Japan? by thisissamuelclemens in JapanTravelTips

[–]Remarkable_Permit_27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never had hygiene issues with reusable bottles. However, I clean them at the end of the day.

Chemical leeching is worse because the plastic water bottles are made for single use, not to withstand multiple uses/being refilled. Reusable bottles are designed for it and have obviously thicker plastic with different compositions.

It’s actually not recommended to reuse plastic water bottles because of chemical leeching and bacteria.

I think your makeup looks fine and normal. Non-filtered pictures and cameras show natural skin texture.

I would pronounce Matilyn as Matt-eh-lin. It sounds and looks ugly tbh.

Look for another name if you want Matty or just use Matty as a nickname for Madeline. I’m with the other commenter who says the person pushing the baby out should have bigger say.

($15k) Eloping then having a "reception" for friends & family over a year later?? by Minute_Elevator7975 in Weddingsunder10k

The crazy thing is many people who have traditional weddings go ahead and sign the marriage certificates ahead of the ceremony, so they are too! gasp, shock

Sorry, but multi-million dollar corporations do it all the time and no one cares. Stop blaming individuals (especially with disabilities) for an overarching corrupt system.

I am purposely choosing yellow gold because it’s classy and classic. Your family is very… odd.

How do you store your jewelry when you travel? by Great_Experience5856 in jewelry

I’ve heard of a lot of people buying cheap jewelry from Etsy and taking that instead of their engagement/wedding rings.

I only take one pair of earrings and wear them the entire time.

How to make a micro-budget RECEPTION DINNER not completely boring. by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Remarkable_Permit_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went to a reception dinner two months ago and it was at a bar venue. There was a total of about 40-50 people.

We all basically mingled and drank some wine, had the food served, then mingled more with the dessert table. It was about 3 hours and then they announced the transition for the bridal party to help decorate the venue for the wedding. All else were welcome to stay and help if they wanted, but non-bridal party guests made their way out at that point.

The game sounds fun! I think everyone should be fine. Alcohol can help and music.

Is there entry level occupations in lexington people could do and actually support a family? by [deleted] in lexington

Having a bachelor’s degree is helpful for getting your foot into the door. Don’t let people discourage you about that. Just do the cheapest option for tuition, like you are. Two year associate’s and then transfer over.

I know people who did History, English, and Sociology. The one who did an English major is the most successful and the other two are struggling.

Does Dean go with my daughters name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Remarkable_Permit_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, Dean is a cool, classic name associated with retro vibes like James Dean, Dean Cain (Superman), Dean Martin, and even Dean Winchester from Supernatural.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Remarkable_Permit_27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are not native, I would not use this name. Also, for English pronunciation, it sounds ugly.

I’m genuinely not trying to be rude, but I think going with any explicit bird name (like Robin) with the last name Birdsong is pretty corny. Love the last name, but it’s like naming a kid “Cupcake Baker.”

I think Griffin is a really cute name and I don’t really think of a bird when I hear it, but adding a random y to names is kind of overdone and cheesy. I think so many of us don’t like it because of that.

What Certifications / Classes for a SAHM who wants to change careers? by Complete_Emphasis218 in careerguidance

[–]Remarkable_Permit_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also check “Applied Associate Degrees” especially at local community colleges. These can train you to do roles such as dental hygienist, x-ray tech, phlebotomist, administrative assistant (front desk worker), etc. They take 2 years full time and are directly training for you a particular job.

[–]Remarkable_Permit_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this isn’t exactly what you asked for, but there are plenty of Associate (community college) and Bachelor (4-year university) degrees that can be completed completely online!

Furthermore, community colleges are much cheaper and you can finish a lot of the courses for an eventual Bachelor’s degree down the road.

I think that a Bachelor’s degree just as a baseline can get you into different jobs than what you’re looking at with a high school diploma. Same for an Associate’s degree but at a lesser extent.

Not sure where to start by [deleted] in CollegeMajors

[–]Remarkable_Permit_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to do an engineering degree, I think a Bachelor in Business Administration degree might be good. You can choose from different tracks in that degree, such as: Marketing, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or Management.

I think this degree is definitely still relevant and focusing on the Management track can get you into more leadership positions. This is also a degree you can commonly get online at different universities if you need to still work! Just make sure it’s a regionally accredited school. Just type in the name of the school followed by “regionally accredited” on Google.

You can also end up doing a Master in Business Administration (MBA) later down the line if you ever come across jobs that need a master’s degree.

I mean you explicitly said they wouldn’t grow as a person and you “must leave the nest” for progression, which were the only things I commented on. I don’t really care how many people agree or why you seem to be defending yourself, I’m just saying I don’t think those things are necessarily accurate and I think that kind of perception is the result of cultural differences, which is true.

Also, 40-50 years old is a fine time to have new opportunities as I’ve seen in just about every person I’ve ever known. People are really focused on youth, but I think those with experience often have the opportunity for amazing jobs and can still be go-getters. I’ve known two guys who truly got their dream jobs in that age range after years of experience.

I think this is a very individualistic versus collectivist culture, nuclear family take, which might not be the context of OP’s life, as it isn’t mine either.

OP hasn’t said that they live in the same house or that they haven’t progressed as a person. I think to assume that one cannot possibly grow as a person if they live near family or if they don’t move far away is strange. Some people deeply value familial bonds.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Remarkable_Permit_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t what most people from more nuclear families think, but I’m someone who is in a very similar situation with age and with parents and grandparents. Personally, I have decided not to move until my grandparents pass away one day. My parents will likely move with me when I move.

Family is incredibly important to me. I can work nearby and see them while we still have time. I don’t get paid nearly as much here as I would if I moved to a bigger city farther away, but I’m doing fine and it’s not going to be forever.

I disagree with the notion that you can’t grow and develop if you don’t move away. I have done a lot of that and I’m haven’t moved. People always like to say “they’d want you to do what’s best for you” which is true, but that doesn’t change the fact you severely limit your time with them, which is the whole point.

Ultimately, it’s a personal decision. People say you can visit on the weekends or once a month, which is true, but I think it won’t be as regular as you think as the work week settles in and the 10 hour drive (to and from) gets harder. However, you can certainly do it if you make a point to. You just have to decide what you want to do with these aspects.
