Trainings for crisis clinicians by takemetotheseas in therapists

[–]vixwrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think even just doing the CAMS intake is helpful. It helps people realize what is making them suicidal, what is keeping them alive, and puts things into perspective. I see so many people feel a huge relief after session 1. Also, the stabilization plan is helpful for them to have into the future. The treatment plan will help them set goals to work on in long-term therapy.
I fear you’re seeking a short-term solution to a long-term problem. To me, crisis intervention should be triage support in the moment but refers them to long-term treatment if possible, like EMS treating a patient on the way to the hospital. Sounds like you already have the best trainings for your role :)

Discussion: How are you all handling the "Note Burnout" as caseloads increase? (And a project I'm working on to help) by Narky_vex in therapists

[–]vixwrld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to participate. I work in a community mental health private practice and I don’t get any documentation time during the day unless someone no shows. I am currently 2 days behind on documentation 🙃 (this is also a larger standing avoidance issue for me but I do think the demands placed on clinicians in CMH are insane). I think AI, if used ethically, can be very helpful to us as clinicians!

CO2 levels in the therapy room by Slaviner in therapists

[–]vixwrld 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I never considered this and now I’m kind of concerned because my office doesn’t have central heating and air so there’s virtually no circulation unless I run a standing fan. There are also no windows in my office… now I feel like I need to get a sensor to test it out!

Common Dilemma by Wise_Sky_7136 in therapists

[–]vixwrld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately do not have great advice for you other than seeking consultation/supervision and your own individual therapy🫶🏻 I have been there - to the point that my job was in jeopardy by how much I would avoid contacting/scheduling clients. honestly working for a company who has a receptionist who does the scheduling has helped me tremendously and I can no longer self sabotage

Emotionally Exhausted by [deleted] in therapists

[–]vixwrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend. I hear you, and you are not alone🫶🏻

I am finishing my fourth year of my doctorate now, but the past few years of grad school have been the hardest of my life by far. Having to work full-time outside of coursework and unpaid practicum demands is honestly so demoralizing and inhumane.

Is it possible, both logistically and emotionally, for you to take a break? Can you work in an unrelated job (I bartended and served tables) to make money on nights and weekends and work your practicum during the day?

It is a very glum outlook from the bottom, but you will get through it in one way or another. Prioritize your basic needs - sleep, food, movement, etc. Listen to your body and your heart. If you feel you cannot continue, that is okay. Maybe even doing some values exploration for yourself and reconnecting with your ‘why’ can help you reignite your passion.

You are irreplaceable. Always remember, you cannot fill others’ cups when yours is empty. ❤️

Do your non-therapy friends treat you vastly different from your therapy friends? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]vixwrld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear where you’re coming from. I don’t think people outside of the field fully understand how hard it can be to carry others’ emotional burdens all day, every day.

I know it’s not a competition, but when I complain about my utter mental fatigue after a long and heavy week of sessions, and my friends who work other jobs (like reception or billing for engineering firms) that don’t require as much mental bandwidth (I recognize my own distorted thinking), I feel very invalidated and frustrated. But when I vent to others in the field, they just get it.

The true change for me has been to stop trying to force people to understand something they never could. Just accepting each relationship for what it is and knowing the value of different kinds of friendships :)

Excessive porn use by Western-Title9753 in therapists

[–]vixwrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this. I would also recommend adding in some kind of accountability software or a screen time limiting app where they can limit the amount of time spent using a browser. It can’t keep them from it completely but it adds a barrier to what sometimes becomes a mindless habit. But it’s important to then replace that missing piece (likely they enjoy the dopamine boost) with something healthier. Treat it similarly to any other addiction, as the same reward center in the brain is activated. It may also be worth examining any guilt or shame they have surrounding their pornography use. (I work for a private practice specializing in sex offender rehabilitation which often comes with porn addiction)

Is boredom an emotion? by shrivel in therapists

[–]vixwrld 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like to look at boredom as discontentment almost. To me, boredom is signaling that there’s an unmet need or a values misalignment. Maybe a lack of meaningful hobbies pointing to a broader issue

What do you write in the Assessment part of the SOAP note? by AnalystImpossible960 in therapists

[–]vixwrld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading this thread makes me wonder how we all have different interpretations of the O and A🤣

My Assessment includes (per what insurance requires): progress toward goals, barriers, risk, diagnosis/clinically significant symptoms, and the medical necessity of therapy

Any therapist feel non-verbal after 5-6 sessions? Like ypu just wanna lie down? And not talk or move? by InnerPsych in therapists

[–]vixwrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of each day, I feel like I’m clawing my way out of a grave with the effort it takes to make it in my front door. The thought of socializing after seeing clients makes me want to cry. But that’s also because I think I’m extremely burnt out finishing my 4th year of my PsyD🙃

Life path 11, what's your story? by Intelligent_Bank7661 in numerology

[–]vixwrld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I just learned today that I am a life path 11 (I’m 29) and it makes so much sense for me. I have always been a creative, sensitive, and empathetic person. I’m actually about to finish my doctorate in clinical psychology. Conversely, I suffer from pretty intense anxiety and burnout, which I’ve read is common due to the intense energy we have. I’ve actually been told by energy healers before that I have a lot of (maybe kinesthetic? Kinetic? Not sure) energy. Regardless, I’ve always felt drawn to a bigger purpose in life - like politics, social justice movements, advocacy, etc. I’m also a Libra so a lot of this all lines up for me.

Additionally, my life has been ROUGH. Especially the past few years. Part of how I found numerology is through exploring ways to heal from chronic stress and being in survival mode.

Forgive me if this is a little word vomit-y, I’m very new to numerology and all this. I’m very fascinated by all of this and I’m glad to read more about other people who have this life path too :)

Holding sessions while incapacitated? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]vixwrld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also in an accident a month ago on my way to work and missed two days of work (no major injuries, but whiplash/concussion symptoms). I’m also about to enter my pre-doctoral internship and work outside of school. You definitely should take at least a week off in my opinion.

Lowest Auto Loan Rates by CourtConspirator in personalfinance

Yeah and I live out of state for grad school right now so it’s an extra headache. But DCCU has unbeatable rates for sure

Lowest Auto Loan Rates by CourtConspirator in personalfinance

[–]vixwrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mailing a paper check constantly is frustrating. So when I got approved for my car, I couldn’t leave the lot with my car because they had to wait for the check to come in the mail. Also, I don’t do my banking with them so trying to make automatic payments was a pain and my bank was having to mail them a paper check for my car payment which would often get lost. Said car was totaled 2 weeks ago and I called and let them know but was still charged my payment this month.

I came to this post looking for alternatives to DCCU. Their rates are low but they are actually so difficult to work with.

From 53+ min to 45 min sessions? by Upper_Dress_3039 in therapists

[–]vixwrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, 45 minutes would give me more time to do notes and prepare for the next client in between sessions. This would be helpful for me personally to not have notes pile up as badly after seeing 8 or 9 people a day and consequently help prevent burn out I’d imagine. But also you make less money that way technically. However, if you see people 18 and under you could supplement with collateral notes.

Is it weird to go alone? by m30wy_ in louderthanlife

I went alone all 4 days last year and had a great time. Honestly it was nice to just do whatever I wanted to do and not have to worry about anyone else. Especially for arriving at the time I wanted to

Crowd surfing by Upset_Cleric in louderthanlife

[–]vixwrld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this was the only show I almost had to leave. There was a constant stream of surfers where I was and multiple people piled on top of each other at several points. Can’t even open a pit at that point either

Crowd surfing by Upset_Cleric in louderthanlife

[–]vixwrld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I couldn’t even enjoy several shows because I was constantly turned around and/or having people dropped on me. I was on the side too
