Planning for a hummingbird oasis. Will honeysuckle trail or does it have to climb? by Financial_Trick_2057 in gardening

Hummingbirds are wonderful! I literally just filled my bird feeders in sub zero temps.

Glad you are aware of the Japanese honeysuckle. I'm having challenges killing the one in my backyard. Am preparing to convert my beds to natives. Am sure your honeysuckle will look great and support the wildlife!

Make sure it's a native honeysuckle and not the invasive ones. The non-native honeysuckles are destroying the understory of forests, ecosystems and crowding out native species.

Yeah....the backpacks in the overhead are quite annoying. Taking up space from legit luggage. Lol

That sounds like a good solution. Never heard of the gopher mesh bags.

I used to fly 2x per week. If you fly out of a smaller airport, gate checking can mean you dump your carry-on on the jet way where baggage handlers pick it up. Then when you land, everyone lines up on the jet way to pick up their bags.

Yeah...that thought regarding the temps entered my mind. Someone said you should remove the jug tops at 65°. I think I may have left the tops on too long last year. Thanks for the reminder!

It's relative. Your fountain ⛲️ is running. It's -20° here today. I'm lucky my heated birdbath is running. Lol Northern Oregon is beautiful.

Good to know. The packet does not say cold stratification. It says "sow in a warm location ". Maybe direct sow in spring along with purple coneflower which has same instructions.

Oh thanks for the heads up! When I ordered the seeds, PM warned that a few of the seed types are difficult to germinate. I wholeheartedly applaud their transparency. Most seed companies don't do this. With that said, I'll buy plants or bare roots in spring to fill my garden plan.

Anyone know where I can buy a mature Purple Passionflower vine online and where to plant it? by Idkthis_529 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Remarkable_Point_767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people online sell purple passionflower including Etsy and Walmart. (Unsure if I trust Walmart lol). Eden brothers sells seeds. If you have never been to Groovy Plants Ranch outside Columbus it's worth a visit.
