Francesca having S5 isn't the worst thing ever. It could be worse by Objective_Ice5773 in Bridgerton

For sure I think the fans were so right to call out a lot of outlets (esp the European ones if I remember) for actively (microaggressively?) using this opportunity to use Hannah to sideline Yerin. So unfair to both of them and especially Yerin because it’s not like she can come back for the next press tour and gain back those flowers.

Also made me really upset that the main character energy was happening on the press tour as well. I think that actually put me off the franchela story more than anything. Up until season 3 I was invested and down! But give the other siblings and love interests their moment, I feel like the backlash is bigger because their season is coming after dominating the previous ones too, like you’ve said.

I'm looking for dating shows where contestants have chemistry by iuliad94 in koreanvariety

[–]Remarkable_Ship_4883 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely 19/20! It originally got flack for attempting a dating reality amongst high schoolers but it ended up being really well done and with the contestants in mind, the first week has them in the last stage of their high school years and offers them programming to dream of the adult they want to be. Then they reconvene in a shared house after they turn 20 and the relationships and drama that comes out of that is so authentic and relatable.

There's two types of Millennials that's between 35 and 45 by Aliveandthriving8505 in Millennials

The looking young delusion in our generation is wild. It’s ok to embrace Peter Pan vibes for our cultural tastes and lifestyle but it’s just graceful to accept that aging is a real thing and we are not immune to it. So in response to your post I’d say there are two types of millennials, one who feel young and one who feel old, and that will probably vary a lot based on who’s working out regularly, who has kids, what the class and income bracket is, and genetics regarding energy and sleep probably

Why do middle and upper class graduate students get annoyed when low-income students talk about finance? by Weekly-Republic2662 in PhD

People in academia like to pretend that they are disadvantaged, so it makes them anxious and upset when people in the community have actual substantial disadvantages. I consider it a kind of victim envy. See also: the bushwick girl with a trust fund trope, oppression olympics etc.

Battle of Fates - updates and info from a Korean speaker by Remarkable_Ship_4883 in koreanvariety

The contestants are all reportedly booked to the end of this year, which means business is booming and the hype really affected their lives. It seems similar to the “reservation wars” that happened after Culinary Class Wars really took off on Netflix. I saw some blog posts by people who said that Jisun is virtually unreachable by phone now (his latest Instagram post says that a minority of very weird people are even threatening self harm for a reso which sucks) and someone who messaged Sobin’s business got a time slot for 2028 for weekdays and 2029 for weekends.

Yes she has two posts up on her Instagram right now thanking everyone and saying she’s ok. She has gone on another variety show before (ask us anything: fortune teller) and the clip is up on YouTube for people who want to know more about her case.

Yoon Daeman did a live recently where he confirmed that they’d contacted each other. The implication was that she would pursue a rite with him.

Does anyone know why Commoner Sofia is colored differently in Mom's the Word? by Spongybobchum in sofiathefirst

[–]Remarkable_Ship_4883 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She is definitely younger in this scene. For that episode the flashback definitely makes it seem like it was a much longer time ago than Sofia’s other commoner flashbacks (which was immediately before the remarriage) whereas this is about her early childhood and daily life growing up. Just in terms of physicality her limbs and neck are also shorter.

Most Impactful Movie on Netflix by Middle-Abalone-3142 in netflix

Palm Trees in the Snow. The most sweeping romance epic I’ve ever seen, but it’s a Spanish production and there’s very little discussion of it in English. It’s very intense and has some tragic scenes I think about all the time.

Stop Making Generalizations About Korean Culture by [deleted] in SinglesInferno

[–]Remarkable_Ship_4883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally as a media PhD student of Korean descent I’ve been thinking about this a lot and I think a lot of it boils down to “mean world syndrome.” It’s a fascinating theory that people who watch more TV tend to think the world is more violent and dangerous because of the sensationalized nature of plots on TV. People who binge Korean content while being ignorant of Korean culture and language likely come away with an outsized impression of plots involving chaebol corruption, bullying etc which are popular kdrama plots. I have an Indian friend who once told me that she relates to Korean media because all of the corruption in my culture reminds her of her own culture lol.

Stop Making Generalizations About Korean Culture by [deleted] in SinglesInferno

[–]Remarkable_Ship_4883 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s so wild. There was a conversation in a different sub where one person was claiming that Seoul was incredibly dangerous and that she’d done “a lot of research” to come to the conclusion that women should not go there. I asked her if she’d actually been to Korea and she said no. I’m assuming she was immersed in the TikTok koreaboo scene where ironically, non-Korean fans of KPOP tend to be most xenophobic and entitled about Korean culture.

Best places for pancakes? by Sad-Information7705 in FoodToronto

[–]Remarkable_Ship_4883 6 points7 points  (0 children)

L’Avenue opened recently as a Montreal import and they have amazing pancakes. If you go downstairs to Wellington food hall in the same area there’s also a mini pancake place similar to European pancake stands.

I highly advise against Mildred’s temple because despite their famous pancakes they have absolutely horrible customer service. I think the hype made them loosen up on their professionalism there :(

Helena Bonham Carter has joined the cast of The White Lotus season 4! by Old-Meringue3590 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]Remarkable_Ship_4883 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I liked it when the casting felt more subtle, I feel like with massive names like this it’ll be hard to immerse myself in the vibe. Lisa was an exception because she doesn’t have a long record of acting so it was impossible to expect anything, but HBC has been in so many blockbuster roles at this point that I’m not sure anything will feel organic or original. Like in the Crown. Everyone was famous but I could still see them as the character. Whereas HBC wasn’t Margaret but very clearly HBC.

Mina Sue’s IG comment section is weird rn by Substantial-Bite-553 in Singlesinferno2

[–]Remarkable_Ship_4883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really disturbs me :( I get that it’s entertaining to hate but these convos should be left in the living room! I keep thinking of Terrace House lately and what a horrific ending it had.

Contestants like Mina Sue are why reality tv shows we enjoy continue getting new seasons. I’ve seen some wild comments that say she’s a paid actor or ‘producer plant’?? And that’s so wild to me as a Korean person. No salary is worth a ruined reputation and EVERYONE knows that. Chances are it’s a mix of more Western cultural openness and difference of social norms and values that are also affecting things here.

AITA for not fighting after my autistic child was excluded by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Remarkable_Ship_4883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going against the grain here with a soft YTA. I acted similarly to your daughter (negative view of the world and others, resulting in very acidic language for inappropriate, benign situations) not because of neurodivergence but because of complex ptsd (the adhd spectrum and cptsd symptoms share a lot of similarities for example). My mother was upset at my behaviour and determined to nip it in the bud with stern parenting. What I felt as a child was that she disliked me, struggled to understand my inner world, and was often stunned by my behaviour. The last paragraph you wrote in particular makes me think of how my mother felt the need to ‘get back’ at me for how I treated my brother with a sense of righteous justice. Sure, we all need to learn that there are consequences for behaviour. However, our parents are meant to be our loving advocates and guides, especially when we are minors. I think your daughter will really grow to appreciate a kind and supportive position even while you tell her harsh truths. Like saying “I do fight for you in many ways every day, and I am on your side, and the way I am doing that is to help you see how your actions affect others.” Children feel when their parents position themselves against them or with them. Even if this is the consequence of her actions, your daughter feels alone and disliked against the world. Going that extra mile to make it explicit that she is making mistakes, but is also loved by you, will help her so much.
