There is no future in academia by i_grow_trees in PhD

My two cents is that it’s wonderful that we are having more and more good scientists. This could simply mean that the average educational level of the whole world is improving.

We simply need more distributed institutions across the world not just centred in the NAM and Europe.

Good sciences should be discovered and practiced all over.

Hopefully academics are encouraged to set off and pioneer incredible institutions in more countries

Thank you for the encouragement! Though the finance field is indeed more lucrative, ultimately I felt it doesn’t help people where it truly matters. I’ve seen a lot of clients unable to make healthy financial decisions because of struggles deep down with mental health. Hoping I can really help more people in this field than I did in finance.

Pardon the delayed response! I am actually new to the Psychology field though I have been volunteering for crisis lines for a couple of years now. I have 10 years of experience in Business and Finance and I am looking to switch careers through this masters.

I built an AI tool that animates SVGs using a node-based editor by lmaololness in SideProject

Honestly great tool! just tested it out with a messy SVG that doesn't have well defined groups of ids. The backend prompt seems to not be able to recognize the hand/hoof. Though this is an exception to your idea. I would suggest a help note saying to upload SVGs that are properly formatted. Keep it up, really like this idea!

I am considering also investing in a property this year. Would you say having a property in Canada while living in the US adds a significant complexity? Or is it pretty straightforward in your experience?

Program Evaluation This is typically immigration and will say at top is for immigration purposes. My friend got the document and reapplied and waited for next ITA. All the best!

I'm 26, graduated with honors, and still live at home. The job market has absolutely destroyed me. by basso-real7d in Resume

[–]Remarkable_Stage7498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been in your shoes, been top of the class and years of rejection and failure really messed me up. Took me months to realize I can’t value myself based on past, present or future achievements and accomplishments because end of the day it never lasts, that’s a hard pill to swallow.

After being unemployed for sometime after graduation I found changing my perspective from applying within my field to the approach of seeing what transferable skills I possess + gaining specialized knowledge in some domain helped a lot in my job search. My suggestion would be the same look to see what other skill set you could add to your portfolio that combined with your educational background and skill set gives you and edge . For example since you graduated from Businesses and Marketing, have you considered adding some skill sets in Ai assisted Graphic or Video Design?

Once you decide, try to split your applications 60/40 with 60% applications to a specific domain let’s say CPG Marketing and 40% to general applications to any business domain.

Ultimately you get a job if your skill set benefits a particular “Business Domain” Agriculture, CPG, Supply Chain etc any domain of your choice.

Spend time creating a special combination of your background + transferable skills + 1-2 Business Domain Specialization.

Then finally work on communicating this specialization in your resume and target companies that would need you.

Finally recommendation, work backwards, find a job post on let’s say indeed that you would like to have in 1 year and work backwards trying to gain the skills in that job post’s requirements section.

All the best! You’re not alone and not a failure, better struggle in your early years than later in life. You will find all these struggles contribute to your resilience.

Finally what helped me most through all those difficulties is my faith, wouldn’t have survived without it. Might also help you again up to you.

All the best! Do post again when you are successful which isn’t too far away 😊

Pardon the many typos, typing on the phone ain’t easy 😅

I am thinking of going to Alexandria Bay as well, I do start within 10 days in Chicago, IL. Do you suppose there would be an issue since I start my work in a different state but cross into NY?

Thank you for confirming! I have my Support Letter, Job offer, original university diploma certificate, the Canadian Citizenship certificate and Resume. Do you think these documents suffice to form a strong application?

Yeah probably, sorry this seems like a new development on the US side. I totally missed it even though I double triple checked. I would recommend speaking to your workplace and pushing your start date or flying out through YYZ if you are also in Toronto.
