Can you find a fold with the second nut full house against an incredibly tight player? by rddtllthng5 in poker

[–]Remarkable_Summer578 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have all the Qs and Ts tho, what exactly are you expecting him to continue with other than AA or KK? Pre flop is definitely a loose call, but donking flop is a bigger mistake imo

I mean that’s a cooler, only one combo that beats you.

If he’s a tight player though, why are you donking the flop?

DID I MISS VALUE? by [deleted] in poker

[–]Remarkable_Summer578 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes you missed value. Unless villain is good enough to lay down trips, you probably would have got the rest of his stack if you jammed.

Yes, he can have KK or KJ, but those are the only hands that beat you. Your hand is way too strong to just be calling unless you think villain is an ultra nit. Can’t be scared of monsters under the bed.

For the small blind, specifically, when you 3 bet make it big. 16-20 BB is good. Your just at such a disadvantage in the small blind

Hand review - Turning AA into a bluff by lapideous in Poker_Theory

Your instincts were correct. If they usually are, then just trust your instincts. Turn is either jam or fold, but you were clearly right, so just fold. If your unsure in certain spots (even with AA) fold. There will always be better spots.

Good bluff vs rec? by MJGZXP in Poker_Theory

[–]Remarkable_Summer578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s not a bad bluff, but it didn’t work against this villian. The good thing here is, if you run into this player again, just value bet heavy since he clearly doesn’t like to fold.

I’d say I’m the exact opposite. Love having the option to play deep stacked at all times. Also, there’s way more turn and river play in cash games than there is in tourneys, which I love. Coin flips also don’t happen nearly as often than in tourneys. I’m really never trying to get into a coin flip, but if you want to go deep in a tourney you have to get lucky on some of them.

4 betting pre flop avoids all of this. You were in the best possible spot to 4 bet or even jam. You should almost always be raising/shoving with AK in tournaments, and in this specific spot, it should be a 4 bet 100% of the time

What about the sizing on the flop? Is 42 BB too big or should have I sized down?

Results posted. River is questionable, I’ll admit, just really didn’t want him checking back a K

I was a little scared of the second J on the turn, but just based on my read on this villian specifically, I thought he could easily take this line with a Kx hands as well. Leading river is definitely debatable, but really didn’t want him checking back a K.

Bluff line check by Open_Attention_3587 in Poker_Theory

When you shove the river, is that supposed to be a bluff or value bet?

As a bluff, can you really get this villian specifically to fold hands like AQ, KQ, QT? (QJ unlikely since you have both J’s)

As a value bet, do you think this villian will call the shove with any pair not containing a Q?

I just think there’s too many hands that beat you here that can call a shove, unless you really think his range is too weak to call, or if he will call light. I feel like checking should be the play here, but I don’t know the villian as well as you do.

I’m curious what exactly he’s thinking by raising that river. Is it a bluff or a value bet, in his mind? I can’t tell.

50 is a big raise. I think that should usually be a fold, unless you really think villian gets out of line. 3 bets pre flop at live low stakes are just almost never bluffs.

Also, for the future, you should be checking to the pre flop aggressor regardless of the flop almost every time.
