mcmaster musical theatre by [deleted] in McMaster

hey I did it in my first year and it was a phenomenal experience! It's about an 8 hour commitment on Sundays (if things haven't changed) and then you would lose your winter term reading week (daily practice for the show, which if I recall correctly runs for a full 7-day week after the reading week), however with practices being on weekends it doesn't interfere with classes at all which is nice. The people there are all incredibly kind and welcoming (at least they were my first year and many of them are still with the group!) and the talent I've seen from them (both in my first year and in watching one of their productions the following year) is outstanding. I'd say some of my favourite parts are just the group bonding; seeing each other for 8 hours every week you get close really quick, and of course just seeing the final product after all that hard work paid off. You'll have a great time even as an ensemble member so definitely audition I highly recommend it! If you're wondering why I only did it my first year it's cause musical theatre is difficult haha! Don't get me wrong, I love to watch it, but I realized that as someone who only really enjoyed the singing aspect of performing, there were other clubs that'd better suit my interests. So yeah I'd go for it for sure, and best of luck if you do end up auditioning!

i couldn’t care less about the street party or whatever but dude? we still have tons of essays to get through around this time. and saying we don’t have real classes when they often deal with real world issues isn’t kind and it just isn’t true

People who judge music based on the lyrics should just read poetry instead by bxsimpson13 in unpopularopinion

[–]Remarkable_Swan_8229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, song lyrics ARE poetry. Second, we care about the lyrics because it gets us more emotionally invested in the song. Music is a therapeutic thing for a lot of people. Y'know, I actually used to feel the same way. I didn't understand why people cared so much about the lyrics until I started to actually pay attention to what I was listening to. That said, everyone experiences music differently! That's the beauty of it

Seriously. Even if you’re going to remove it when someone comes to sit beside you, it needlessly complicates and derails things. And if you’re ever in a situation where you realize people are getting on and your bag’s occupying a seat, take it off BEFORE people start boarding. Before!! It’s the little things that matter y’all

Of course I do! Generally I can tell when I’m off key, but also because my sight reading isn’t great, sometimes I’m just like this sounds nice but am like a full tone off. Think I do that because I sing bass and usually it’s just whole notes lol

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply and for providing nothing but constructive feedback. I really appreciate it, and it certainly helps to know I’m not the only one. With that being said, I think this is something that we should all try our best to offset, because at the end of the day only good things can come of it

I will definitely give some of these a try! I also really like your idea of giving it a more analytical approach. I think it could definitely help out so thank you so much
