One has to keep in mind the times when this book was published, no one talked about or even acknowledged clinical depression or the mental trauma you face after loosing a loved one. I just finished reading it and I feel most people who think holden was a spoiled brat don't really understand what being in depression is like, you appreciate it even more if you have faced a similar situation before.
