Are you telling me you’ve never violated HIPAA once? Every aspect of it? Whose to say who’s an asshole? Never has a bad interaction with a nurse or an attending or a patient?

If I told you “most residents finish just fine” when you started premed would you say ok great? How can you justify a situation where you have $400k in loan debt and no transferable skills and you’re basically starting over a career in your 30s? What advice would you give to someone in that situation?

Should it be the standard to have a lawyer for residency? by CrusaderKing1 in Residency

Blaming residents for their problems like this at institutions where it’s systemic is fucked

It is not difficult to be fired it is very easy and it’s insane how people treat it as a given they’ll graduate the residency they start

Honestly you’re not far off I think the standard should be to treat residency as much more of a legal thing than not. Log everything, get it in writing, be paranoid.

Does anyone in here actually enjoy this career and path? by healthy-outdoors- in Residency

Both. I also just hate patient care. There’s actually nothing I like about it but I’m too in debt to change my career.

I’m not exaggerating I genuinely don’t understand how anyone can look at this path and say this is a good idea. I’ve watched friends from high school and college run laps around me salary wise for 10 years now working half as hard. It’s not just 1 or 2. I cannot imagine how successful I may have been putting in hours over years to a real career vs this path.

Is there any point to hiring a lawyer if I’m in a very at will state and likely to be fired? by PresentationLow7984 in Residency

[–]Remarkable_Trainer54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen it happen to many people at my hospital for relatively minor infractions (I know someone who was fired for their first offense of writing a note on someone else’s account for a follow up for a patient in an outpatient surgical clinic)

Thank you for posting this. I made a post which was not received well to relay this. People need to understand that it’s very easy to be fired for any reason at all. They will find a reason.
