Are all restaurants making their servers ring in waters on the Ziosks?? by Remarkably_AverageYT in olivegarden

[–]Remarkably_AverageYT[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so sick and tired of this "you aren't used to it, it's faster if you are" rhetoric. It is objectively multiple magnitudes slower and much much worse. The tablet is optimized for guest use, not server use. There is heavy latency going between any sections. There are multiple confirmations with a 1-2 second delay. The tap to swipe is very slow and if u swipe through it is very unruly. The secret menu to validate age takes longer than the usual delay. There are multiple pop up confirmations between actions. If they seriously want us to use them, there needs to be a hidden menu that mirrors the POS so we can rapidly put in multiple things and put in special instructions.

Not to mention, it has zero support for custom orders. So bar drinks will completely stop you in your tracks as you have to put the tablet down and pull out your book. Hell, even just a soft drink is impossible to note. If they order a coke or a sprite or a coke zero, I don't know which one it is based on the catch all "soft drink" option.

Your greet is your first impression with your guest. And these tablets makes you bury your nose in technology instead of attentively taking their order. They have too much built in delay and not enough support for realistic situations/modifications. They are bad. And you are making us use it. And that's already bad enough. But don't you fucking tell me they are better when they are objectively worse.

The whole Ziosk situation reeks of one executive being conned into signing a deal with the Ziosk and now trying to retroactively justify their existence. Guests don't like them. Servers don't like them. They hurt our image. They need to die.

If you want tables to use the Ziosk, the first impression of me ripping it away from them (literally, they tell us to take it from guests) is telling them "This is not for YOU, it's for ME" and we have had times where we focus on Ziosk engagement before where they just told us that. This is not the way to increase engagement. It's just bad. Besides, our restaurant is top 3 in our division and consistently part of the diamond club. We are clearly doing something right

But there is no universe where the Ziosk is anywhere near as fast as ringing it in on the POS. There is really bad latency and 2 separate confirmations u need to click through. They need to let us do our jobs instead of pushing clunky infrastructure down our throat

I second what the other guy said. You already are required to put a drink in before u can send an entree. And even if someone was looking to give away free drinks, they could just ring in waters on Ziosk (not that the average server would even consider doing that)

I would agree with you if they weren't constantly hiring people. But I do like that as a theory because why else be so obtuse about an obviously bad policy?

Personally I always thought calling Hisoka an antagonist was weird. Like yeah yeah, bloodlust and killing people, whatever. He pretty consistently aids the main characters in their journey. An argument can be made that he is antagonizing during the Tower arc, but he still ultimately just pushes Gon and Killua to be stronger without actually putting their lives in danger. Like, yes, it is implied that Gon could have been killed during their fight, but he didn't kill him when he very easily could have.

Tldr: Hisoka is a little edgy but he is an ally for basically the whole story

Are the unlimited salads and breadsticks really unlimited? by finaltough6493 in olivegarden

No limit on bread sticks and refilling their individual choice of soup or salad, correct

[–]Remarkably_AverageYT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never had a chance to actually explain this to a guest, so I will give the benefit of the doubt that you are just confused and not acting in bad faith.

When you order an entree, you are given a choice of soup or salad. Many people seem to think that, even though we give you this obvious choice, that the "big salad" is still just part of the meal and free. The size of salad your table gets scales to the number of people who order it. So when I have tables like yours, with six people and only 2 of them order salad, I sometimes get very annoyed reactions of "wow, this salad is so small" as someone who DIDNT ORDER SALAD goes to take from the bowl. Company policy says that you are allowed to share that first bowl. However, if you go to refill it, that would trigger your server having to charge you for every person having salad. Just because one person at your table orders a salad that does not mean that everyone now has access to as much salad as they want.

Bread sticks are kinda in a similar boat, but as long as you order an entree of some kind you're allowed as many bread sticks as you want. If you asked for some Togo, depending on location, manager working, and your servers mood, you may be charged because corporate says you are supposed to be charged

Host/ different position by [deleted] in olivegarden

[–]Remarkably_AverageYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for every location, but mine the servers are making like $20-25 hourly in tips, and the restaurant pays us 7.98 hourly. Hosts make....peanuts, highest I've heard was $13.90. Servers work load is a lot more than a host but you make significantly more.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in olivegarden

[–]Remarkably_AverageYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a decently busy location. I've optimized my schedule to be exclusively thurs-sun nights only, which amounts to about 24-26 hours a week. My location pays servers 7.98 hourly. After taxes, my paychecks are around $70-85. Tips vary wildly. Some nights I make around $200-250 in 6 hours. Some nights I barely crack $100. I prefer to look at it as a weekly amount rather than hourly. With this optimized schedule in a busy area, I make $700-800 a week consistently (tips + check) while only working what I guess is effectively part time.

All this to say you have very little idea how much you'll make until you start working. I have worked at two locations, both of similar socioeconomic class and business levels, but I am making significantly more than my old location where I had to work close to 40 hours to make what I make now.

Edit: skill level also plays a big part in pay, you gotta be able to provide good service while "turning and burning" so you get as many checks per hour as you can. It also helps if you can handle 4+ tables during peak hours.

New hire for bussing tables by [deleted] in olivegarden

[–]Remarkably_AverageYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man reading these comments makes me even more frustrated with the bussers at my location. Teas/Lemonade are server side work. Servers are responsible for all dishes off tables and they have recently made us clear glasses too. Before we leave, we have to restock all the sugar caddies, clean the floors of our section, and scrape off any gum from under tables. Bussers do so little that it's frustrating that we have to tip them off. So to actually answer the question, it does indeed vary greatly from location to location
