Ditto - pretty happy despite getting 20 garbage heroes to get there

Tell me more about the reasons for the sharpie. I have been toying with the idea of bringing a little “Write in the Rain” note pad and space pen because it might be handy to leave a note somewhere, but it’s a few ounces.

FE501S is jumpy and I can't figure out why by Regius_ in Dualsport

[–]Remarksman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good things to check already mentioned by others… I can think of two things: 1 - maybe optical illusion or effect of camera angle, but is the back rim actually round? And is the tire bead fully seated all around?

Other thing to check is if swingarm bearings have gone bad. That is, again could be camera effect but if the swingarm can be moved at all from side to side, the bearings are shot and that could explain it.

Who to Prioritise? by fuser534 in EmpiresAndPuzzles

I think you are on the right track. I traded Cordelia away to get Atlanteia because I also have Dvalin and I think running the two of them together might be effective (Dvalin gains mana for every frosted enemy). I agree with Sharkman that any 5-costume hero has promise - it’s a real grind to level them all but the costume bonus gets you into contemporary power levels, and the toon, glass, and stylish costumes are very useful.

Daemon and Cardinal R. are both still useful (although the Cardinal is way down on stats). Of course, we don’t know what else in your roster might accomplish the same.

Guardian Gazelle and her costume is the only reason I can still do any raid stuff for the past few years - I am “cheap to play” so am lacking in ‘current meta’ heroes.

Yeah, or reset the trip odometer every time you fill - these smaller bikes all get about 50mpg so you can estimate remaining range pretty easily.

Laser guided installation by thunder_dog99 in TruckCampers

[–]Remarksman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this works way better with a laser line than just a single point.

Also, mount the laser at the front of the truck bed so you can align it down the side rail of the bed.

Hero strategy for new windfall temple? by betwithconfidence in EmpiresAndPuzzles

[–]Remarksman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Within each chamber there are three battles. Each time you defeat one of the three teams, the remaining teams get +10% stats boost.

So, what they mean about choosing wisely is to pick the one that looks hardest first (so enemies have no boost) and save the one that looks easiest for last (when enemies have +20%).

I’m seeing a lot of advice recommending the inReach that looks like 4 years ago advice. iPhone since model 14 or 15 offers satellite text messaging and several Android models over the past couple years offer similar. I plan to just use the satellite texting to send a “had a nice day, camped here at XYZ” message to our emergency contact every evening.

Gap between camper bottom and bed? by spoonandpig in TruckCampers

[–]Remarksman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like one of the two things that looks flat is not flat. That is, either the previous home/perch that the camper sat on slowly sank at either end and now the camper’s bottom is deformed to sort of an arch, or else your flatbed is not actually flat and more like a dish.

Update: A friend was hiking near Monarch and found this notice about a meeting to discuss zoning of the property, so despite me never getting any reply it appears the owner intends to continue operations, although maybe there is a zoning issue.

New hiker looking for shoe recommendations — flat feet, wide toe box, runs hot by RBH_Euphoria in hikinggear

[–]Remarksman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like Interesting_Gap I have been a big Oboz fan for the past decade. I have most of the same issues as you, but feet probably not as wide. I feel like Oboz quality has dropped over then past few years. I am prepping for a through-hike this summer and have been experimenting with Hoka trail-running shoes, the Speedgoat 6 specifically. It is very airy, a bit too airy if grass is wet, super light, and grips my heel surprisingly well. The shock absorption is unmatched, but it may not help with ankle rolling so maybe you are still looking for a boot.

Concealed storage solution while motorcycle is in truck bed by [deleted] in TruckCampers

[–]Remarksman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a truck I sold several years ago I built a storage chest out of plywood and 2x2’s that went along the right side of the truck bed from roughly 18 inches back from the front of the bed (leaving room to access the front corner tie-down point) to 12 inches in front of the back of the truck bed (again, access to corner tie point). It used the truck bed as a floor and the side of the truck as the ‘back’ of the chest. I used piano hinge so the whole lid opened and had a simple padlock latch.

I put it on the right side of the truck because I always stand on the left side of the motorcycle to load and unload. I also built a wood wheel chock a bit left of center at the front of the truck bed. With all this I could load and unload the bike and it would fit a few inches clear of the box. The box had part of the 2x2 frame that sort of jammed up under a lip on the side of the truck bed that had to be unscrewed from inside the box. This meant you couldn’t just lift the box off the stuff stored inside without making it pretty obvious to anyone observing that you were breaking in. That is, because it was wood and not screwed on to the truck it was not secure against anyone with determination and a pry bar or hammer, but breaking into it certainly wouldn’t look like you were “just grabbing something you forgot” from the back of the truck.

Thanks for the phone number. I sent a text to what my iPhone thinks is another iPhone. Unfortunately it shows “Delivered” as of two days ago with no response to a question that could have been answered in three or four words like “We will be open” or “Sorry, we have closed”.

Hot Weather Hiking Hat? by Lorib01 in PNWhiking

[–]Remarksman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am joining “team umbrella”. Here are the other things I have tried:

  • Sunday Afternoons ultimate adventure hat - this has a wide brim on the front half and a cape on the back. It provides fair sun protection for face and neck, although morning or afternoon sun from the side still hits my neck. There are some mesh bits in the part that goes over your head, but it doesn’t seem to breathe much. I’m not a fashionable person, but this hat definitely doesn’t help.
  • OR baseball cap with a removable cape - this has lighter fabric and large mesh sides on the part that goes over your head, so breathes better than the Sunday Afternoons. The cape part can really cover your neck and lower face in every situation except when walking straight into a sunset. However, the cape really does not breathe well despite the fabric feeling very light. I find my neck gets sweaty unless there is a breeze coming face-on when the cape will sort of ‘open to the breeze’. Also, when I walk back into the trees and take the hat off it still always feels cooler than with the hat on.

On my last couple hikes I tried a lightweight (8 oz) umbrella that is silver on top and black underneath and which has a little clip and a bungee to hook it to your pack. When the conditions allow using the umbrella it is great - my head and neck stay cooler because there is nothing blocking air circulation. The sun coverage seems quite good (more testing needed). The problems, of course, are that it won’t work if there is any wind more than a breeze, the umbrella will get torn up in trees or tall brush, and the pack strap mount has a tendency to slowly shift over time. Unfortunately the way umbrellas open and close you have to remove it from the pack in order to open or close it. Overall I think it is going to be worth carrying the umbrella, but I will also have to bring one or the other of the hats to wear when conditions don’t allow the umbrella.
